or is this something they consider alternative treatment and thus it is not medicare covered and not performed in hospitals? I have this feeling most doctors dump on alternative medicine as witchcraft and dismiss it altogether, but then again I read about cancer patients being administered vitamin C via IV at a hospital and I wonder if that is the case. Does medicare pay for it?
The way I see it scientific research is strongly linked to political and economic realities. I am not saying vitamin c is the miracle cure for cancer – it’s administration via IV needs to be in high enough concentration and there is some scientific data showing that it is beneficial for cancer patients. Everyone;s body and cancer is different, but do not ever discount pharmaceutical companies having a stake and power to maintain their riches. They have strong lobbies in DC and the NIH, for example, receives guidelines for funding by members of Congress. If they are bought by big pharmaceutical lobbies, of course they will discourage anything that might actually lead to a cure.
Cancer research is frighteningly underfunded and there is reason for that. If some people like to take the head in the sand approach and think of doctors as purely benevolent angels out there to help us alone without any personal interest in profits and status, then they are sorely mistaken and delusional.

Here in the UK they do not give vitamin c for cancer as it is classed as alternative medicine – Vitamin C is water soluble it goes in one end and out the other so I don’t see it helping cancer.

ACP convened the four organizations, which represent more than 170000 physicians from around the world, to develop the joint guideline. “This clinical practice guideline aims to help clinicians to diagnose and manage stable COPD, prevent and treat exacerbations, reduce hospitalizations and deaths, and improve the quality of life of patients with COPD,” said lead author Amir Qaseem, MD, FACP, PhD, Director of Clinical Policy, American College of Physicians. “It is important for patients with COPD to stop smoking and for physicians to help their patients to quit smoking.” COPD occurs predominantly in cigarette smokers. COPD symptoms include chronic cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, or significant activity limitation.

Ok fine it’s irrelevant data blah blah you got me on that.
I’m not going to apologise for not being satisfied with the current methods of cancer “cure” though. People are dying all the time of cancer. Obviously you people are quite happy to pump poison into yourselves, do you even want a proper cure? If chemo is what you want go right ahead, I on the other hand don’t want that toxic poison in my body and will research other methods and ask if chemo is the best we have and why there isn’t anything else. I am not satisfied with the amount of people dying of this disease and the current methods of treatment-I don’t think I need to apologise for that.
AS for- “If I was a cruel & heartless bastard, Rachel, I might say “I hope you get cancer and because of this question you are not allowed to get chemotherapy that would save your life”-geez just because I asked a question on yahoo answers with a link I thought was right you’d wish cancer on me (“IF you were a cruel and heartless bastard”) wow. I didn’t know I deserved cancer just because I asked a question and am not satisfied with cancer treatments, gosh I must be an evil person.
By the way-my dad’s been advised AGAINST chemo by his DOCTOR for his terminal cancer, based on the awful side-effects, so it’s not just me and my “self-righteous and lazyness not researching properly”-that is what his doctor said. Now you’ll all probably say I lied about that, well you can believe what you want it’s the truth, that is from a cancer specialist!
Ok seems I’ve upset a lot of people here which was not my intention at all-so I apologise for that. no where did I tell other people what to do-I said go ahead and do what you want it just wouldnt be my choice. Ok I did get defensive when other people were rude calling me an idiot and all that-I found that link on the net and ok I didn’t research it properly but I thought it was legit-it had quotes from medical doctors-I know it was 10-20yrs ago but we still use chemo and people are still dying in large numbers so I still think it is relevant. I think the medical community don’t want a cure though-alternative treatments hardly ever get researched because there is no money in it for them and as for the “quacks” as people call them-a lot of them offer their treatments for free or for a lot less money than the medical community do. I have an alternative treatment I order now and it is from a charity so I just donate how much I want to (could get it free)-it may not work but it’s harmless.

My mum passed away from Colon cancer and had 3 lots of chemotherapy. If you are suffering with such an awful disease then you will try absolutely anything.
My mother in law had colon cancer, surgery and 2 lots of chemotherapy. She had this 4 years ago and is now living a healthy life. Yes she is never clear of it, but is still with us and enjoying her life

The biomarker test is a biological molecule that is found in the patient’s blood, tissues or other body fluids that indicates the presence or absence of a particular disease/condition, as well as its level of aggressiveness as far as cancer cell growth. Biomarker tests are useful in diagnosing and determining the treatment of mesothelioma. Researchers have been spending an immense amount of time and money in researching ways to improve the diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma. Researchers also hope their efforts will improve mesothelioma patients’ survival rates through their ability to personalize treatment plans.
Providing mesothelioma patients with personalized treatment can optimize the potential for a successful remission. Mesothelioma treatments often differ dramatically in type and dosage.
