A question about baby powder?
Question by Leah’s Mommy: A question about baby powder?
I’ve heard on that one show the Doctors that baby powder is really bad for babies because of the talcum powder. What is there to use instead, or should I just not use anything? I cut this out from a website too..
Talcum powder contains a substance similar in composition to asbestos, and some studies have linked the use of talcum powder to increased incidence of ovarian cancer. Accidentally inhaling it can lead to serious respiratory problems or even death.

Can single inhalation of baby talc powder cause lung cancer?
Question by : Can single inhalation of baby talc powder cause lung cancer?
Can single inhalation of baby talc powder cause lung cancer?
I was at my friends’ place with my 3 years old kid. My kid found a talc baby powder and was shaking the bottle up and down and creating lots of dust close to his face when I saw him. I am not sure how much he inhaled of it, but he was coughing later for few hours. Next day he was fine. I never used baby powder or any other talc powder because I know that it has been linked to cancer and breathing problems. Should I worry about my kid?

Baby Powder Treated Ceiling Tiles
We had a contractor renovate some space recently, and in the interests of keeping costs down, they recommended we only replace ceiling tiles that really needed it, but that they would clean the ones that were in good condition. As part of cleaning them, they “treated” them with baby powder. Now there’s a significant amount of dust from the powder as a result, and we have concerns about the safety of the space (www.ehow.com The contractor tells us that this is an industry standard practice – what do you think?
TV9 – “Powder Cancer” : Is Talcum Powder Safe For Babies? : Discussion – Part 3

TV9 – “Powder Cancer” : Is Talcum Powder Safe For Babies? : Discussion – Part 3…….! The use of baby powders is rather common although many parents have switched to using ointments. Reasons most parents give for preference to powder is the feeling that the powder absorbs moisture better and prevents friction between the baby’s bottom and the diaper. However, after decades of use, powders have fallen out of favor by the medical community for a few reasons: Talcum powder is usually made up of various combinations of zinc stearate, magnesium silicates, as well as other silicates which are finely ground. The size of particles is so small that they are both easily carried in the air like dust and can reach even the smallest areas of the lung. There have been numerous reports of babies having life-threatening episodes from inhaling the powder. And in fact, there have been many deaths reported from aspiration of the powder. A good number of these cases occurred during a diaper change when adult supervision is usually very high. But as every parent knows (including myself), infants and toddlers can be awfully quick sometimes, so reaching for and spilling the powder bottle is not such a hard thing to do for the little ones. The feeling from many dermatologists is that there isn’t much advantage of powders as compared to ointments when it comes to preventing and treating diaper rash. So, clearly talc can cause pneumonia, inflammation (or swelling) of the airways of babies, and …

Single component polymer modified powder non-intumescent fire retardant coating and the application
Single component polymer modified powder non-intumescent fire retardant coating and the application
Article by jekky
Abstract: The main purpose of the current home and abroad to redispersible powder modifier of one component of non-expansive Fire retardant coating (Mortar) applications and types of features were introduced, and steel structures, tunnels and petrochemical refineries in the application of a more detailed description. In addition, latex powder on fire coating on the adhesion of the tunnel to conduct a preliminary study. Key words: non-expansive type; single component; fire-resistant coating; fire mortars; redispersible powder0 Introduction Non-Intumescent rely mainly on its own is not combustible, low thermal conductivity and absorbency to protect the building. Process in the formation of a class of fire protection layer enamel layer, it can also cut off from the role of oxygen, so oxygen can not be protected combustible material contact, in order to avoid or reduce the combustion reaction; another type of material bound for the crystallization of water case of fire is released, so including the protected material, including reinforced the critical temperature is 100 or so until all the water have all been released. Such low thermal conductivity of the product itself, a good insulating body [1]. Non-intumescent fire retardant coating in a foreign country has been referred to as containing light expanded vermiculite cement (plaster) mortar. According to the density can be divided into low-density (250 ~ 350g / L), medium density (350 ~ 450g / L) and high density (600 ~ 750g / L). Applications include indoor hidden places, steel, concrete tunnel lining, petrochemical, and outdoor use and chip shop, including all kinds of occasions. [2] As different occasions, including indoor, tunnels, petrochemical fire, the combustion and the combustion space of different material, leading to the temperature of the fire? Time is different, so need to use different fire retardant coating to be effective. This will fire on the building steel structure, the tunnel fire, and petrochemical fields were set fire to. Polymer coating on the non-intumescent fire has been modified for decades, most of the early use of acetic acid at home and abroad Ethylene – Modified emulsion, and since two-component construction is more convenient and low efficiency, resulting in major foreign companies, including fire retardant coating Cafco, Grace, and PPG mostly single-component forms, such as powder Resin Was modified to improve its various properties. This preliminary study also redispersible powder coating on Modification of the tunnel fire. 1 fire, the temperature – time curveBurning material according to different fire temperature rise can be divided into the two categories: fiber material combustion curve and hydrocarbon combustion Curve [2]. Fiber material, typically including wood, paper, hair products, cotton, common standard temperature – time curve, including: BS476Pts.20-24: 1987 – British; ASTM-119 (UL263) – USA; DIN4102-Germany; ISO834. Such temperature – time curves for the combustion curves of the fiber material with a relatively slow temperature rise, 60min, the temperature rose to 945. The hydrocarbon fire time because the space in which different, resulting in different temperature – time curve. Hydrocarbons (oil), with the rapid rise in temperature characteristics, 4min temperature is increased to 900, fiber material than the combustion temperature rises much faster. Therefore, the typical closed space (such as a tunnel) and the relatively open space (such as oil refineries) have different temperature – time curve. The corresponding standard curve, including: Hydrocarbon standard curve; RWS curve. Hydrocarbon fires mainly refers to those by the chemical or fuel (oil or gas), as a branch of the tunnel fire, generally assumed to be oil tanker on fire. But the difference is: the temperature is not a common test standard hydrocarbon substances fire maximum temperature 1120, but 1300, shown in Figure 1. Figure 1, the standard temperature time curve

If you really don’t like that kind of make-up, stop using it. Maybe find a different brand that suits you better, or wear none at all. I hope I helped! Good luck girly.<3

Protein Powder and Wheat Germ Extract Can Help Against Cancer
Protein Powder and Wheat Germ Extract Can Help Against Cancer
Article by Jonathan Bell
Cancer has been on the increase in the U.S. for many years and it goes without saying that it has affected most if not all of us in one way or another. Here are a couple supplements to consider in not only with preventing cancer, but in combating it.
Whey protein powder is probably one of the most underutilized tools you can use to improve and protect your health. Whey isn’t some glamorous, high-tech product that was just recently discovered. What whey is is the translucent liquid that separates from curd when milk coagulates during the cheese-making process.
Ages ago it was praised as an elixir, but more recently it has generally been discarded as waste. Some to the more savvy farmers knew it would benefit young farm animals and often utilized it in feed, and they were on to something. The majority of the benefits of whey can be attributed to its dense content of high-quality protein components. It has been found to be one of the most complete and biologically active forms of protein available.
Studies in laboratory animals have found that a diet supplemented with whey protein provides protection against toxin-induced cancers of the esophagus, lung, bladder, colon, liver, and breast. It appears the earlier the whey protein is started, the greater the protective effects might be.
Fermented wheat germ extract (FWGE), also called fermented wheat germ powder (FWGP) is used as a natural cancer therapy. FWGP is approved as a medical nutriment for supportive therapy of cancer in Hungary and is used for that purpose in other nations of the European Union (EU), and in parts of the Middle East and Asia. It is used in the US as a dietary supplement.
Research indicates that FWGE works through several different mechanisms. One of its most unique benefits, however, is its ability to inhibit glucose metabolism in cancer cells. By reducing the glucose flow into cancer cells, it inhibits their ability to produce additional nucleic acids and subsequently reduces their proliferation or growth. In the presence of FWGE compounds, cancer cells begin to utilize the available glucose to produce substances that actually inhibit cell division and stimulate programmed cell death within the tumor.
FWGE also assists the immune system’s ability to identify and destroy cancer cells, and its safety has been studied extensively in cell lines, animals, and humans and no adverse effects have been identified.
Not only is the use of FWGE free of toxic and adverse effects, it has the added benefit of being able to protect cells against such effects caused by conventional therapies. In all of the studies where FWGE was used in conjunction with conventional therapies, not only were those therapies significantly more effective, but the patients experienced considerably less therapy-related side effects. Both the frequency and severity of common side effects like nausea, fatigue, weight loss, and depression were reduced. Additionally, their immune systems recovered more rapidly.
Do you know that India has just one-tenth the cancer rate of America. The main reason has been attributed to curry, or actually a compound in one of the spices that make up curry called turmeric. Turmeric is a strong antioxidant and free-radical scavenger, but it also possesses amazing anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic, and other protective powers.
The compound curcumin is responsible for the yellowish-orange color and distinctive smell of tumeric. Curcumin is more than just a simple pigment. Researchers at the cancer center in Houston reported that curcumin stops laboratory strains of melanoma from proliferating and causes the cancer cells to commit suicide. The findings are so dramatic that human clinical trials are already underway testing curcumin’s ability to retard the growth of both pancreatic and breast cancer, and animal studies of its effects on melanoma will begin shortly.
So far, the researchers have found that curcumin has had a positive effect on every tumor market they have tried. By the way, all of these studies involve the use of daily oral curcumin supplements that are readily available today.

Q&A: What can I do to make sure this strange white powder coating everything on my job isn’t a health hazard?
Question by WriterChic: What can I do to make sure this strange white powder coating everything on my job isn’t a health hazard?
My job relocated from a clean modern building with great maintenance and security, to a dirty rodent infested building that’s at least 40 years old because it was more cost effective.
The water fountains are turned off because of the lead pipes. There are mouse dropping in my cubicle everyday and the whole office is coated in a strange white powder. The building has repeatedly been sited by the health department but nothing has been done.
OSHA has tested the powder and says its not Legionaries Disease, which one of our other buildings did have, and its not asbestos, even though a contractor left the building and refused to complete repairs on our AC claiming the building had asbestos. They says it has a high mold content but that’s not something they deal with.
A lot of people in the building have a persistent cough and my desk is right under a vent so I not only have a cough but have horrible headaches as well.
I currently have to wipe my desk off with bleach wipes everyday just to keep the dust off my clothes. The dust is so thick when I come to work on Mondays that you can write in it. Plus its not like regular dust as its grainy. I really think this stuff is dangerous but I can’t afford to quit and look for a new job.
What can I do to find out what this stuff is? And how can I protect myself?
Best answer:
Answer by NurseKaia
I don’t know how you can find out what the dust is apart from reporting this to the Occ Health and Safety authorities.
You need to get yourself moved to a different desk. Tell your employer that it is making you sick and that you don’t want them to have to be liable for huge medical bills.
You say you cannot afford to change jobs but can you afford to get mesothelioma if it is asbestos? Even if it is something else, you are breathing that in and your lungs could form scar tissue around the deposits. Any type of irregularity in the form or function of your lungs can cause cells to get out of whack with their dividing and that is the beginning of cancer. At the very least you could get one of a number of lung and/or respiratory conditions
You have to either change jobs or move to a different area. Dust that you can write in is not good! Especially when it isn’t dust! Put pressure on the health department and if you can, put pressure on your employers. Let them know that it could end up being more expensive if they do nothing.
Good Luck and think of your future. When you are lying in a hospital bed suffering, you will wish you got the heck away from that weird “dust”.
