I keep getting colds and respiratory problems. Help!?

respiratory system diseases
by RON SOMBILON MEDIA, ART and PHOTOGRAPHY

Question by Luke: I keep getting colds and respiratory problems. Help!?
I keep getting colds one after another, at least in the winter time , and all year round (80% of the time) i seem to have some problem with my lungs/chest. I even developed asthma in the last few years which really only truly bugs me when I’m sick or feel that my health is compromised.

What the hell? I don’t have HIV or an immune system lowering disease, I don’t have cancer, and nothing else that I’m aware of, my blood tests came out normal, YET,

I can’t seem to “shake” getting sick all the time.

I also eat very healthy, and take supplements, and have my asthma drugs,

yet I just CANNOT shake getting sick all the time, and can’t seem to have my lungs in good health.

They’re either always sore, or heavy or slightly asthmatic or something. They’re never “Normal” anymore.

Can someone please help me because the doctors say I’m fine, yet I don’t feel fine!

I’m sure it’s not life-threatning, but I want my comfort level back!

Am I just unlucky? I do go out alot.
Perhaps constant exposure to germs when I go out and not letting my body heal from one illness long enough may be doing it I’m not really sure.
Is it dangerous or alarming to constantly have your chest/back, feel sore, heavy and compromised, and have your tonsils feeling sore and achy?

I mean doesn’t that indicate some chronic infection?

What can cause chronic problems like this?

Again I don’t have hiv. lol.

Maybe what you get is not a cold.
Maybe you have allergies? The
symptoms are similar. Have you
asked a doctor about it?

What causes heart problems in eating disorder patients?

Question by snowsoul: What causes heart problems in eating disorder patients?
How do the different types of heart problems develop? What eating disorder symptoms cause them? Is it that the heart muscle becomes weak or what? Does that affect ability to exercise or how one feels after exercising such as dizziness or breathing and stuff?

Best answer:

Answer by Ginny W
It is different for different eating disorders: for bulimics, the purging distroys cardiac muscle and also inducing vomiting is also hard on the heart. For anorexics, the body goes into starvation mode and starts to use the cardiac muscle for sustanance. in both disease the body is very malnourished and this makes the body anemic and can lead to kidney liver failure and all sorts of bad stuff. As a former bulimic i can tell you that it makes exercising extremely hard becuase they body is deprived of electrolytes, which are what make the heart work

My house has asbestos in it, any problems?

Question by Schoolisabore: My house has asbestos in it, any problems?
my current house was built in the 1930′s, so it contains large quantities of asbestos because of that. The ceiling tiles are what is made of asbestos. I’m not saying the fibers are just sticking out of the ceiling, however, the tiles are there and do concern me.

Recently I have been having chest pain (usually when breathe/laugh hard or just randomly), I went to the doctor to check my heart, which is what I originally thought the pain was, but now I think it may be my lungs (from the asbestos?).

Please tell me if you think it may be from the ceiling tiles.

Best answer:

Answer by Otts Shoals
If it was the asbestos, your doctor would have seen it in the x-rays he would have taken if you mentioned the asbestos. If he didn’t, get another doctor. Only proper exams will tell. A 1930′s house is not likely to have much asbestos and ceiling tiles from 1930 are not usual. Even more, the tiles are probably much more recent than 1930. Have you had them tested, the type of asbestos makes a difference. Other materials in a 1930 house are more likely to have asbestos (tiles, heating system).

Scoliosis and Lung Problems?

Question by Abnana: Scoliosis and Lung Problems?
Is there any proof that scoliosis can cause respiratory problems? I have a 35degree scoliosis of the mid – low back, and since it came about, I’ve had problems with chest infections. I have been referred to many doctors and have been given no diagnoses still. Anyone have any opinions/advice?

If “many” doctors don’t think it’s effecting your lungs than why come on here asking a bunch of yahoos?

Is colon cancer surgery risky in a 71 year old with heart problems?

Question by Tuke1: Is colon cancer surgery risky in a 71 year old with heart problems?

Best answer:

Answer by LisaC
Surgery is always a risk, with or without heart problems. This person’s doctors (cardiologist and surgeon) will need to speak with one another before the patient undergoes surgery. The doctor who handles the anesthesia will need to know the patient’s medical history and what kind of heart condition it is so the balance of medications to put someone under is just right. If the person isn’t strong enough to have the surgery, the doctor will say so. If it’s a matter of life and death it may be a risk worth taking.

So I’ve been having lung problems at night?

lung problems
by hiperia3d

Question by : So I’ve been having lung problems at night?
Nightly, sometimes when I take a daytime nap (it’s mostly at night), as I lay down, I’ll begin to have a horrible time breathing. I used to lay on my stomach to sleep, but lately, doing that nearly kills me. So I sleep on my sides, which is little better. And I try on my back, same as my side. I sometimes have to gasp for air, and my lungs feel swollen and achy throughout the night.
I’ve always had horrible asthma, and I’ve gone to the doctors for similar problems before, and have horribly weak lungs. Also lived in a house for a year with horrible black mold, which I’m told got into my lungs. But I have no idea what could cause this pain and hard time to happen only when I’m laying down. It feels like I have a small weight laying on them. I have an appointment tomorrow, but am curious about what to expect.
I have no other health problem, am all around healthy other than my lungs. I’m also 16 years old. And this may not have a link to it, but I do have large breasts despite being built small, so I think that’s what makes it hard to lay on my back and stomach.
Like I said, just curious what to expect.

Best answer:

Answer by Aries
You are probably being affected by bad air, like dust, I don’t think it is very serious, the reason you are tired is that you are not getting enough oxygen during the day and breathing problems are always worse when we lay down. If it gets bad tonight, try to sleep with a few extra pillow propped up behind you. oh and don’t drink cold cows milk as this caused mucus (yuck) making it harder to breath. good luck with the doctor and remember if you feel that your doctor is behaving a little casual about this then exaggerate a little.

Lung problems after whooping cough?

lung problems
by hiperia3d

Question by Elle: Lung problems after whooping cough?
2 years ago I had a sever case of whooping cough over a period of nine and a half months and was hospitalised several times because of it.
Last year it came back, but only for 3-4 months and only 1 hospitalisation.
I used to be a long distance and cross country runner and had a lot of stamina, now I can’t even walk up a hill without feeling asthmatic and breathless. I have a permanent cough though not like the cough I had during the illness. I also have permanent mucus from my lungs. I have had a few asthma attacks because of sports and breathing problems due to increased exercise.
I’m worried that my lungs are damaged, though of course I’ll not be able to be sure of the extent of it until I see a doctor.
Is permanent damage possible from Whooping cough? Any other possible outcomes from it? Will I be able to run normally again after this? I am only a 15 year old girl so I have a lot of running to still do. I do have several autoimmune diseases so I’m more prone to these sort of things.
Thank you.

Ongoing lung problems and doctors aren’t doing anything?

lung problems
by Wonderlane

Question by : Ongoing lung problems and doctors aren’t doing anything?
In January I pulled a muscle which one doctor later on reckoned I now have a pinched nerve from. Two days after I pulled that muscle I had difficulties breathing and chest pains so sharp that I was taken to the hospital. There I was diagnosed with pleurisy however after that didn’t resolve after two months, I had xrays and my lungs and heart were clear, I never had pleurisy. The chest pains were on both sides of my lungs, and anywhere as frequent as every 10 seconds to a couple of minutes. Some so painful I was crying, thought I was having a heart attack, and would literally have to stop what I was doing that second like driving. I generally am just very weak and tired and get dizzy a lot (possibly due to never being able to catch my breath?)

It’s been almost four months and about two weeks ago the chest/back pains were much less frequent but my lungs still feel so ‘heavy’ and I just generally feel fatigue.

A couple of times also breathing I have felt vibration in my lungs which scares me to death. I’ve been to several doctors and they do nothing. The latest doctor reckoned my spine was out of place and sent me to a chiropractor and since having my neck and spine cracked I don’t feel any better, if not just worse. The chiropractor was questioning me to see if I had ‘Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome’ , which scared me to death. And then today I was pressing in on my right ribcage today and found one spot that was so painful. Stress, physical and emotional definitely aggrovates the pain.

I am only 18 years old, female, do not smoke, do not do drugs. I have always suffered from eating problems and only weight about 42kg but do have a very petite frame nevertheless. I also suffered from a major head trauma smashing my cranium when I was 5 if that could have anything to do with it.

I just want some help. The health system is doing nothing for me and everytime I see a doctor they say it’s sometihng else and send me out the door five seconds later.

Please anyone help?! :(

Best answer:

Answer by vegan
I’m sorry that nobody has been able to figure out what is going on yet. It sounds like one of those complicated cases where you really need a doctor who will sit down and spend some time talking and examining you, not someone who is in a rush.

Because the esophagus is also in the general area of the chest, I am wondering what kind of eating problems you have had? And did you recover fully from your head trauma, or do you have ongoing problems because of that?

Lung problems! my right lung hurts i started coughing up blood. when when i take deep breaths it hurt a lot.?

Question by : Lung problems! my right lung hurts i started coughing up blood. when when i take deep breaths it hurt a lot.?
on the right some of my chest it get pain when i breath. it is hard to lay down without pain.i have a very slight fever of 99.1. both of my parents smoke. my dad is a chain smoker and smokes constantly around me. no one in my family has any form of cancer and most members of my family smoke a lot.

i started coughing up very small amounts blood tonight. i don’t feel the need to cough i just force myself to, to try and clear my lungs. while doing this it hurts A LOT!

i am 17 years old and will get my mother to take me to the doctor in the morning. i don’t want to wake her right now because she is sleeping.

some useful information. i had a seizure 4 days ago (on Christmas) i don’t remember any of it, or if the seizure had anything to do with it, but i fell face first into dog urine. again i don’t think the seizure had anything to do with it.

the first day i noticed something was not right was when i felt a little slight tickle in my right lung when taking deep breathes. the pain is around my right nipple, but it feel like it is coming from the inside of my lung. i have been taking Aleves every 4 hours. it helps with the pain and makes it tolerable but still when i take deep breathes it makes a sharp pain coming from my right lung. sometimes when i move my right arm i get some pain.

i would love some advice on what to do and what position should be the most comfortable to sleep in.

also some more info that i think is unrelated, i have had a headache all day

please i could use the advice. thank you to anyone who has had a similar problem and can help. i just want the pain to go away.

My Dog Speck Has Breathing Problems, Does anyone know what this could be?

This is my little dog, Speck, and he has these breathing episodes. If anyone recognizes these breathing patterns and knows what the cause may be, please let me know. This little guy is the world to me, and I just want to know if there is anything I can do to stop these episodes or possibly prevent them from getting worse. They typically happen about once every 3 days, sometimes as much as twice a day, and sometimes he wont have them at all for a few weeks. His Vet has not seen these videos yet, but when i described the behavior to him, he said it was a “reversed sneeze”. However, the videos that I have seen on Youtube of dogs with a reverse sneeze doesn’t look or sound at all like what Speck experiences. Speck is a Chihuahua/Terrier mix. In August 2010 he will turn 6. Thanks

i have been exposed to asbestos. how much asbestos is enough to cause health problems?

exposed to asbestos
by Editor B

Question by anonymous: i have been exposed to asbestos. how much asbestos is enough to cause health problems?

i started removing the popcorn ceiling in my garage and about 1/4 of the way through i realized the ceiling could have asbestos in it. i removed the ceiling by scraping it so there was a lot of dust inhaled.

Best answer:

Answer by gokart121
Well, that’s debatable, lawyers make hay while the sun shines out of asbestos claims, but at the end of the day, you’re gonna die of something anyway. A better question would be if you were knowingly exposed to it, or how much of it, for how long, are you suffering from it, or were you just in the same zip code as some asbestos, and trying to ride a health claim? Hmmm….

how long do you have to abuse alcohol to develop heart problems?/liver problems?

how does lung cancer develop
by Ibrahim Asad’s PHotography

Question by : how long do you have to abuse alcohol to develop heart problems?/liver problems?
okay i’m 19 years old, i just turned 19 on october 25th, i’ve recently developed a drinking problem for over a year now. I started drinking originally when i was 12 but back then i wasn’t hooked on it, i only drank at christmas parties that my family threw once a year and i barely finished a 12 ounce can when i was age 12-16. Then in december 2009 it was the most drunk i got at the christmas parties since i’ve been going, back then i was able to go up to 11 months without drinking again. December 2010 is when i began to fly off the handle with drinking alcohol. My father god rest his soul, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer on october 28th 2010, and on january 12th 2011 he died, he was only 66 years old and i was only 18. I watched him deteriorate and cough up blood and even now i’m still shocked that he’s gone. After experimenting with 4 lokos in december 2010, i went on binges from january to august 2011. yes sometimes i could last 14 or 15 days without a drink but i’d slip up again. I still had problems with the drinking this year as well. I had binges in september, october, november, and december of 2011. I found that it’s much easier to stop but the cravings are still there. My greving process has gotten better since the end of february 2012, and i’ve been plugging away without depression and i’ve been loving life, life has been good lately i can’t complain. But I discovered that even on good days when i’m not greiving or having a bad day, i still wanna drink. I’m addicted to the buzzed feeling that alcohol gives you, that “high” feeling so to speak. That brings me to my question: is there a name of a medication that helps stop alcohol cravings? my therapist want’s me to see a psychiatrist so he can prescribe something to help me stop drinking. and also how long does it take to damage your body from alcohol use, i’ve abused it for over a year in large quantities is my heart damaged? can i get diabetes? is my liver badly damaged? or do i have to drink for years and years to cause that? i heard drinking excessively can cause A-FIB and heart problems do i have to worry about that at my age?
P.S: I just have to say that i have come a long way, after an entire year of taking care of my father, then watching him die i was depressed for months. Then in september and october of 2011 i was still depressed, i was so despondant i didn’t want to leave the house or hang out with friends, i just couldn’t bare the thought of living without him. Then the greiving got better and my life has turned around for the better, if i can only get my drinking under control. To all of you out there that lost a loved one IT IS POSSIBLE TO FEEL GOOD AGAIN AND ENJOY LIFE, cause i thought i would be depressed forever and i made it.

Best answer:

Answer by TheOneandOnly
If you’ve only been at it a year or so you probably haven’t permanently damaged anything. I drank very heavily for 4 years and it didn’t cause me any lasting damage. The liver does regenerate, and you’re pretty young for alcohol to cause heart problems.
It’s good that you want to stop, I would definitely try to find an AA group, the support from others is going to help you more than anything else.

Should preventable health problems of employees really be the responsibility of the company or business?

lung problems
by hiperia3d

Question by katchoo_792: Should preventable health problems of employees really be the responsibility of the company or business?
If people have health problems such as diabetes or other health issues caused by their own actions should the employer really have to pay for them to fix it? I

If for example someone got diabetes because they habitually over eat and refuse to exercise should the consequences of their actions be passed on financially to their employer?

I’m not talking about accidents or problems caused in direct relation to work such as lung problems caused by coal mining.

It seems unfair and presumptuous to assume that the company should pay the insurance for someone else’s negligence.

Won’t the increase demand on employers lead to health discrimination (not hiring someone because they are overweight or smoke)?
Is this happening now?
What do you think?

Best answer:

Answer by Rod B
Yeah, I feel you. I have always believed that people should take responsibility for their own health rather than living un-healthy lifestyles and expecting the health care industry to “fix” them.
Unfortunately, in the current environment, employers and insurance companies cannot discriminate against those with self-destructive lifestyles.

Q&A: Is this likely to cause me major health problems in later life? (i.e. cancer, copd, emphysema)?

Question by will s: Is this likely to cause me major health problems in later life? (i.e. cancer, copd, emphysema)?
I’m 16, and i’ve smoked on average about 8 a day for about 8 months. I am now quitting, because I’m a football referee, and I only started smoking when I dislocated my knee, so I couldn’t referee. My knee is better now, and I will be back refereeing in a few weeks

My great granddad died from lung cancer in his 50s, but he smoked 20 a day for years, and health wise, I tend to take after the other side of my family. My granny on his side of the family (his daughter) smoked 20 a day for 40 years (though she never inhaled) and is now nearly 80 and still fit as a fiddle.

There’s a slight history of cancer in the female side of the other side of my family – both my granny and my aunt have had breast cancer.

I just want to know, is this 8 months of idiocy likely to come back and haunt me?

Best answer:

Answer by Ricky D
It might, but don’t let the thought ruin your happiness. I smoked for 30 years and don’t have lung cancer. I have heart attacks, unexplained lumps in many other places, ED that is improving now that I’m off the weed, jaundice, partial amnesia, type 2 diabetes, kidney and gall stones, rapidly deteriorating hearing and vision, impossible bad breath, occasional incontinence in both openings that is getting worse, and gout.

Does spit tobacco usage cause heart disease or lung problems?

Question by Mike Hunt: Does spit tobacco usage cause heart disease or lung problems?
i quit ” dipping” 5 weeks ago and my wallet and oral hygene are much better off. However I have a sinking feeling that 13 years of it have hurt my heart and lungs. Anyone know if this is a possibility. If so should I get an xray

Best answer:

Answer by davidcarllee
Nicotine will hurt your heart no matter how you intake it. Some will say that the direct insert to your bloodstream will be worse than puffing it up into smoke before inhaling it. It’s not just about smoke as much as it’s about nicotine into the bloodstream. I’m not sure. But either way, quitting has dramatic influences on heart health, almost overnight.

Am I just running away from my own problems?

Question by Sunshine Girl: Am I just running away from my own problems?
Ok so I am not sure if I want to stay in my nearly 7 year relationship (I’m 24, he is 27).

My reasons are a bit complicated.

Firstly about 8 months ago he said that he didn’t want children or marriage. He had said it before but I never took notice of it. Suddenly I realised he was probably not going to change and what was the point of staying with him with no future.

So I think long and hard about it, and I try to talk to him about it but he doesnt take me seriously. I thought about it some more, maybe I was being stupid.

Then his mum is diagnosed with lung cancer so a big shock for everyone. I therefore decide to support him and not bring it up again for a while. However in the meantime I am gaining more confidence in myself and desire new experiences. I grow as a person when he is staying still.

In the meantime I start to speak to friends and it dawns on me still more that I have only ever been with this one guy, maybe I am limiting myself and my experiences. Especially since we dont see eye to eye on everything.

A few months later, his mum is getting treatment so things are moving forward so I feel its time to talk to him again. I say that I don’t know if I want to be in the relationship anymore and explained my concerns over children and marriage.

He says that since his mum getting ill he has realised the need to have a family and says that he does want all that stuff eventually. He says he doesn’t want to lose me. This really confuses me but he is genuine about it.

Ive been confused since! I don’t know if I would be better off staying with him because he loves me and we now seem to be seeing eye to eye on future stuff (even if I dont want that stuff yet, its good to know your partner eventually wants the same thing right?). Or have I moved on in my head?

Would I be making the biggest mistake of my life by making the decision to be single? He is all I have ever known and he knows me so well. I care about him so much and would never want to hurt him. With his mum the way she is he needs support.

I seem to equally want to stay and go! There are things that make me feel grateful that I am with him and other things that make me so angry because he can also through his love be very controlling in a passive way!

Am I just running away from my own insecurities, or is it these that are making me stay with him??!!

Any insights would be gratefully recieved – please be sensible, I am quite upset about this. Thanks :)

you need to know when you want to have marriage and children, is it soon, because if he says eventually, it might mean years from now, you need to ask him that, but don’t seem too pushy. don’t let his mother be the only reason you’re with him,ask yourself this, do you love him and are you ready to spend your life with him?

mold and problems with lung after having kidney surgery?

Question by Carolyn J: mold and problems with lung after having kidney surgery?
I was alright until I came home from hospital after surgery and started having pain in my right lung and difficult breathing deep because of pain. My husband just found my window air conditioner had black mold so bad it started coming out the front of the unit. He has taken the unit out but I am still sick

You need to contact your doctor about this problem. Time away from the mold will help ease your symptoms, but your doctor needs to know of this problem.
I hope you feel better soon, God bless!

well i would just like to figure out what kinds of materials and problems the trade centers dealt with?

Question by Jen C: well i would just like to figure out what kinds of materials and problems the trade centers dealt with?
I am asking this because the fire fighters and police and every one that helped out with the 911 disaster was unawear that inside the trade center they dealt with all sorts of items like asbestous, and many other cancer causing agents. I was just curious to how the government can get away with this. Obviously the terrorist knew what they were hitting and when they hit it everything that was inside those buildings is now inside the lungs and bodies of many american citizens. And i think that someone should be held responsible for the work that was done inside the trade center and for however the terrorists discovered what kind of work they were doing

All of the junk that people like is basically made of very harmful materials whether it’s your laptop that has ICs filled with vile poisons to buildings that are filled with asbestos, plastic film on the windows. The basic products of our economy are hazardous waste and pollution.

While your concern demonstrates that you are compassionate there is nothing shocking that when you fill a big building with jet fuel and light it thousands of tons of poison will come out.

What is shocking is that medical care is denied to many of the responders and especially the volunteers.

President Bush’s first official action was to make the airlines immune so they would not have to pay for their own negligence in allowing four planes to be hijacked. The best we can hope for is to give the best medical care to the victims. But, we don’t do that either. We are morally lacking as a nation.

The terrorists who did the dirty work all died there’s not much greater punishment you can inflict upon them.
