Methods and Procedures To Clear Liver Cancer
Methods and Procedures To Clear Liver Cancer
Article by Vijay K Shetty
Cancer is caused by a lot of factors. Cancer itself can be triggered by DNA mutations that cause changes in the chemical processes across the body. Liver cancer is more of a threat to people who drink excessively but it could also be determined by other factors. Right now, it is still unknown how the condition develops. The only thing we know is that we need to remove the malignant cells using different methods. There are several ways in which liver cancer can be addressed.
Freezing The Cancer Cells:
This is also known as cryoablation and what it does is the cancer cells are exposed to extreme cold temperatures in order to be destroyed. A cryoprobe is used for this procedure containing liquid nitrogen. The liver tumors are exposed to the freezing liquid nitrogen with the help of ultrasound. Most of the time, this is the only method that is used. In some cases, it can be used in conjunction with surgery and other standard liver cancer treatments.
Surgical Removal Of Affected Liver Parts:
Speaking of surgery, the doctor might opt to have the patient undergo hepatectomy which is the surgical removal of particular parts of the liver affected by the malignant tumors. This is done if the tumor is small and there is healthy cell around the tumor. Taking too much of the liver might not be the case for more severe conditions.
Radiation Therapy:
This liver cancer treatment uses high frequency beams that can be used to shrink the tumors and kill them off. In this procedure, the patient will lie on a table where a machine looms from above. Energy beams are directed by a computer and they offer pinpoint precision to the particular areas of the liver. This procedure is effective but it also has some side effects like vomiting, nausea and fatigue.
Chemotherapy:
Drugs used for chemotherapy are injected into the liver directly. These are very strong drugs. The hepatic artery is blocked since this is where the cancer cells derive their supply of blood. The medicines are administered between the blockage and the liver.
Other Treatments:
There are several other liver cancer treatments that can be done. Pure alcohol injections are administered directly to the tumors and this helps in drying out the tumors to death. If there is super cooling, there is also heating of the cancer cells. This uses CT scan or ultra sound as the imaging tool and electric current is administered over the malignant cells. If the liver has cirrhosis and cancer, transplantation of a healthy liver from a compatible donor might be used.
These methods do not offer sure fire results. No one can tell if the cancer will go back but at least, there is hope that a procedure can be done to regain the life of that person once again.

Q&A: What procedures do most law firms follow regarding the filing system?
Question by jimmy joe 876: What procedures do most law firms follow regarding the filing system?
What procedures do most law firms follow regarding the filing system? Why is a filing system important and what type of files are in a typical law firm?
This question was a discussion question and could not find in my book and could not find on the internet. I am studying to be a paralegal, any help would be great.
Best answer:
Answer by r m
Files…wow that’s really broad.
Pretty much everything you receive you keep.
That includes: Fax receipts, duplicate copies of anything filed with the court, interview notes (really any notes), expenses (individualized by association with clients – paper, hours spent, legal research costs).
Generally things are kept in binders. A client can have anywhere from 1 – 12 different binders. It’s usually up to the attorney to decide what goes in them. Ours go like this:
Client intake binder (pretty much all correspondences with the client – interview notes, initial investigation/incident report, med rec. disclosure consent forms, fee-schedule agreement, representation agreement)
Medical Records (self-explanatory)
Litigation Binders (there can be a lot of these, Discovery from plaintiff, Discovery from defendant, Motions, response to motions, witness lists, witness correspondences, orders, motions in limine)…
Research Binder (all legal research divided by issue)
Deposition folder (all transcripts of depos)
————————————————————–
Filing’s important because you can get sued if you don’t organize. Also it’s important for efficiency; this is why some firms have research and drafting banks. So when you come across the same research issue or item to be drafted you can just look it up in your own files instead of paying to search for it or see what a document should look like.
It’s also important because you can get into client conflicts of interest if you don’t remember who you’ve represented in the past and why.
-Phew-
Good luck in your discussion.

EMCTO 2011: Staging procedures for non-small cell lung cancer
Prof Johan Vansteenkiste, Universitair Ziekenhuis, Belgium, talks about staging procedures for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and explains that for most patients a combination of imaging with PET and CT scans followed by endoscopic ultrasound is sufficient; however some patients will also require a surgical procedure to verify results. Prof Vansteenkiste outlines the key stages for patients, explains how this improved understanding of the patients’ condition allows clinicians to decide which treatment option is appropriate to each individual patient and discusses how beneficial this multi discipline approach can be on patient cure rate.

Diagnosis Procedures For Mesothelioma
Diagnosis Procedures For Mesothelioma
Article by Jamoel Myers
Mesothelioma is not a critical ailment that can be diagnosed immediately since it rarely manifests symptoms at its early stage in the body. Despite the presence of symptoms, diagnosing the disease is tough since these symptoms are associated with other diseases as well.
Within this backdrop, patients? medical histories can help diagnose the disease. Hence, medical practitioners look closely into a patient?s medical history if they suspect mesothelioma might be the case. Then the X-ray is performed and if required CT scan or MRI is also performed.
With these scans, the extent of fluid if it is present can be found and this fluid is then aspirated with the service of a syringe. While a pleural tap is used to extract pleural fluid, the fluid in pericardial cavities is taken out by pericardiocentesis. Paracentesis is performed to extract fluid in abdomen.
If these fluids give out traces of having mesothelioma, physicians do further tests on patients to examine the conditions clearly. At this stage, generally a biopsy is done and tissue samples are sent to the pathologist for microscopic tests. Depending on the positions of the cancer, the methods employed for biopsies can vary from each other. For instance, for cancer in the chest, thoracoscopy is performed to get tissue samples, in which, the doctor makes small incision on the chest wall and insert a thoracoscope between the ribs. In this manner, the physician can probe the inner portion of the chest cavities and extract tissue samples for microscopic testing.
On the other hand, to get tissue samples from a mesothelioma patient in the abdominal cavities, a laparoscopy is done. During]Thru this method a very small cut is made on the abdominal portions good enough to insert an instrument into the abdomen. Sometimes the procedure is not sufficient to take out enough sample tissues for the microscopic test and if this is the case, another major surgery has to be performed.

Breast Enhancement: Important Information On Procedures And Techniques
Breast Enhancement: Important Information On Procedures And Techniques
Article by Dr.Nojan
Plastic surgery has made it possible to transform just about every part of the body, from the nose to the thighs and almost everything in between. For women who would like larger breasts for cosmetic reasons, there is breast augmentation San Diego plastic surgery specialists explain, which places implants under the breast tissue or chest muscle to increase the breast size. Women who have small breasts, or whose breasts have lost their fullness after pregnancy or weight loss, may be candidates for breast implants. WebMD talks about important information to have when considering this particular plastic surgery procedure.
Although breast implants can be used for reconstructive purposes (for example, after the breasts are removed because of cancer), this article covers cosmetic breast augmentation only. It discusses the types of breast implants available, the procedures used, and the complications that can occur.
There are two types of breast implants: saline and silicone. Saline-filled implants are silicone shells filled with sterile salt water (saline). Silicone-filled implants are silicone shells filled with a plastic gel (silicone). Although many women say that silicone implants feel more like real breasts than saline, San Diego plastic surgeons note that they pose more of a risk if they leak.
In 1992, the FDA halted the sale of silicone implants because of safety concerns. But in 2006, after reviewing additional research, the FDA allowed two manufacturers — Mentor and Allergan — to sell silicone implants. How much breast implants cost depends on the location, doctor, and type of implant used. Because it is considered a cosmetic procedure, breast augmentation is usually not covered by medical insurance.
Because the breasts can continue to develop until a woman reaches her late teens or early 20s, the FDA requires that women be at least 18 years old to get breast augmentation with saline-filled implants, and at least 22 years old to receive silicone implants.
Before your breast implant procedure, you will meet with your San Diego cosmetic surgery specialist for a medical evaluation. You may be asked to stop taking certain medications a few days or weeks before your surgery. Breast augmentation can be performed as an outpatient procedure, or you may stay overnight in the hospital.
You will likely be given general anesthesia, in which you are asleep and pain free. The incision may be made under the breast, under the arm, or around the nipple, depending on your body, the type of implant, and how much enlargement is being done.
The breast implant is inserted into a pocket either above or below the chest muscle. After the implant is in place, the surgeon closes the incisions with sutures or surgical tape. The entire procedure takes between one and two hours. For additional information on getting a breast augmentation procedure or tummy tuck San Diego patients are encouraged to contact their local plastic surgery experts.

Asbestos Abatement Procedures Outdoors 1980 US Navy

Asbestos abatement is the removal, encapsulation or enclosure of asbestos to reduce or eliminate airborne concentrations of asbestos fibers or amounts of asbestos containing material (ACM). The proper removal of asbestos is regulated by many agencies in the US, including OSHA and EPA and includes requirements for engineering controls, work practices, personal protective equipment, exposure assessment, medical surveillance, and training. With few exceptions, the use of HEPA vacuum cleaners, wet methods, prompt clean up and disposal of debris in leak-tight containers are required for all asbestos removal operations. Contrary to popular belief, the US has not banned asbestos. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently estimated that at least 10000 people die each year from asbestos-related diseases. Asbestos exposure is linked to asbestosis, lung & gastrointestinal cancers, and an aggressive cancer called mesothelioma. Inhaling asbestos fibers can cause permanent and irreversible damage to vital organs. Disease occurs 10 — 50 years after exposure. Between 1900 and the mid 1980s, asbestos was used in over 3000 different products. During the 20th century, more than 30 million tons of asbestos were used in industrial facilities, homes, schools, shipyards, steel mills, power plants and commercial buildings in the United States. For current information on asbestos, the hazards of exposure and to learn how you can help prevent asbestos-related disease, link to and …

Proper personal protective equipment is essential when working in asbestos environments. Employers should provide sufficient and clean protective clothing and respirators to workers prior to any work which involves exposure to asbestos. A Personal Protective Equipment Program must be included in the employer’s OHS management system. It is important to know how to use the equipment properly – how to check that it fits, when to wear it and how to keep it clean and free from asbestos dust. Also workers should know who is responsible for maintaining protective equipment, changing the filter and storing it to keep it clean when not in use. Personal protective clothing given to asbestos workers should include coveralls, head coverings, overboots and gloves. Disposable coveralls: A polyester/cotton mix may prove more suitable in warm environment. Re-usable protective clothing: After use, clothing must be vacuumed, placed in approved “Asbestos” bags, and taken to an industrial laundry with facilities for asbestos decontamination. Dusty protective clothing can spread asbestos. Employees should not try to clean dust off by beating it with hands or using a brush or air-hose to blow it away. An industrial vacuum cleaner can help remove dust from protective clothes. Asbestos workers must not take work clothes home to ensure that family members are not exposed to asbestos dust from clothing. Workers should not wash protective clothing themselves. This clothing requires special …

Common Treatments and Medical Procedures for a Mesothelioma Patient
Common Treatments and Medical Procedures for a Mesothelioma Patient
Article by Gust A. Lenglet
Once a patient has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, both the doctor and the patient must then determine the best possible treatment.Mesothelioma prognosis, or the recovering factor for a patient, will vary based on several different characteristics:
1. Size of the mesothelioma
2. Whether or not the cancer is spreading
3. Where the mesothelioma is located
4. The patient’s physical health condition and age
5. How the cells are portrayed under a microscope
Three Different Types of Mesothelioma Cells
1. Mixed Cell Type – This cell type is a mixture of the cancer cells and is normally labeled as an intermediate form of the cancer.
2. Epithelial Cell Type – These cells are the most treatable, and have the best prognosis.
3. Fibrosarcomatous Cell Type – This cell type is the worst type of mesothelioma, and has a negative prognosis.
How a Treatment is Selected
Treatments and procedures for mesothelioma are selected after considering the characteristicsand cell types above. There are standard treatments, which have been tested on previouspatient studies, and are most commonly used. There are also trials and/or experimental treatments that may be explored at the patient’s or doctor’s wishes.
Malignant Mesothelioma and Standard Treatments
The most common treatment of malignant mesothelioma is a surgery in which the doctor will remove part of the abdomen or chest lining and some tissue surrounding it. A lung may be removed or part of the diaphragm, based on how far the mesothelioma has spread. Removal of the lung is a procedure called “pneumonectomy.”Radiation and/or chemotherapy are also a part of the standard treatments along with the surgery. Radiation kills off cancer cells using high-energy rays or x-rays. Chemotherapy kills cancer cells using drugs taken either by pill or needle injection. Each of these treatments will result in side effects, varying from one patient to the next.
Intraoperative Photodynamic Therapy
This is a type of treatment which utilizes light and drugs to kill the cancer cells during a surgical procedure. The goal of the surgery is to remove the cancer (as much as possible), and to shine alight on the pleura, killing additional cancer cells. Studies of this type of surgery are being performed on patients in the early stages of mesothelioma of the chest.
Clinical Tests
Occasionally a mesothelioma patient may be urged to participate in experimental treatment options, where the patient will be exposed to new ideas and procedures that are being developed. Oftentimes, traditional treatments will be combined with new tests to find more effective ways of fighting mesothelioma. These options are available for patients who may not be able to endure the standard treatments for health or physical reasons.
The earlier mesothelioma is detected in a patient, the better the prognosis. Each patient should be aware of all treatment options before making a decision, and also consult with a specialist to learn the best option for them.
