Question by : I’m looking at some properties in the city that are already multi-family units. I’m thinking of dividing the?
apartments up further into “Micro-Apartments”. The units will be one bedroom efficiencies and studios and there will be a limit of two persons per unit. I’m going to be playing Architect myself and am thinking about subbing the construction work out to contractors that I know.

Do you think it’s a good idea to work with people that you’ve known as neighbors or people that you know because you went to school with their children? I know people say you should never do work with family but since these people are just neighbors and friends parents I’m thinking it’s a little different dynamic.

I’ll be having people tearing out old walls, framing new walls and doing some lead abatement (I’m only looking at properties that have already been cleaned of asbestos). I have another contact who is an electrician who will be doing some wiring work for me. I’m going to do the finishing work and painting myself because I did that over the summers when I was in school.

Your first priority is getting building permits. If you are not a licensed architect you can’t act as one, you will never get your blue prints passed.

As far as who you hire, as long as they are licensed contractors there should be no problem.

I don’t get these.
We had to read certain pages of our science text book and do this homework.
But the book said nothing about these questions.
Help?

1: Can you always tell what a material is by looking at it? Give an example.
2: What type of properties describe how one material acts on other materials?
3: What type of properties describe how a substance acts under various conditions?
4: How do scientists use their knowledge of physical and chemical properties?
5: How do scientists identify the chemical properties of materials?
6: If you had a piece of asbestos paper and a piece of plain paper, how could you tell which was which?
7: If you had a jar of alcohol and a jar of water, How could you tell which is which?
8: Can two items of different size have the same physical properties? Give an example.
9: When testing for the chemical properties of a substance? Will one test always be enough to identify that material?
10: Can a material have many different chemical properties?

The book would have said something about these. I can already answer the first one in my head. Don’t be lazy and do your OWN homework by either reading through the book again or searching the internet. If you still have trouble, go and ask your teacher, they’ll be glad to help you that’s what they’re for.

There are two things called “asbestos” by people. There are the minerals dug from the earth and there are building and maintenance materials that contain the minerals. The mineral properties can be seen at the reference. Note only six forms of the mineral are regulated. When it comes to materials that contain asbestos, they can take on any form that any other solid material can take.
