Does government funded medical insurance cover treatments for smoking related ailments?
Question by ?: Does government funded medical insurance cover treatments for smoking related ailments?
For example, if someone has medicaid or medicare and has been diagnosed with lung cancer…would chemotherapy be covered? I am just curious because I know that the government makes a lot of money from the idiots who smoke (cuz they are so addicted they wont stop buying the damn things no matter how much taxes they have to pay on them). It seems counter productive for them to turn around and use those same tax dollars treating smokers. After all, millions die each years so the majority of the time it is money wasted. Even if they did pull through, they will probably go back to smoking and do we really want someone that stupid wasting space anyway?
I hope it isn’t covered. As a matter of fact NO insurance should cover treatment for smoking related ailments. If they are stupid enough to smoke they should pay for it totally out of pocket. They should just let them all die off. Its evolution, survival of the fittest. That way only the smarter people will go on to reproduce and hopefully eventually people will just stop (after the dumb ones kill themselves of course).
Also..why is it legal to do something that is proven to be deadly? Assisted suicide for people who are suffering is illegal but perfectly healthy people are allowed to give themselves cancer? I just don’t get it i guess.
And by the way…dont compare this to alcohol. MOST people who drink alcohol are NOT alcoholics, but MOSTLY everyone who smokes is extremely addicted. its not the same.

A lot of seniors who have lung cancer developed it early on before there were warning labels on cigarette packs, at a time when most people smoked and did not know it was addictive, let alone carcinogenic due to mass campaign by tobacco lobby to hide the truth. That has past. I wonder why kids continue to smoke these days with all the information available about smoking and how can they afford to smoke at $ 5 a pack? However, we dont discriminate in treating sick people because they did not take care of themselves. We treat the end result and doctors must treat everyone.
Remember that Medicare was paid for by payroll taxes by people who worked for 40 years and continue to pay a share of Medicare every month as well as the usual co-pays and co-insurance.
Whatever you think of subsidized programs, remember that government subsidizes industry for much more than it does people on Medicare.

Can somebody tell me what test(s) lawyers need to verify if COPD is asbestos related?
Question by : Can somebody tell me what test(s) lawyers need to verify if COPD is asbestos related?
Is it the CT scan or a biopsy? I’ve tried emailing this question to a few law firms with no results. In October 1998 a company hosed me and my crew down and then threw the clothes we were wearing into an asbestos dump because they were contaminated. The doctor I’m stuck with is a pill pushing quack who I have had to lose my temper with in order to get him to shut up and listen. Needless to say this doctor does not give a damn because I have no insurance and am depending on a county health care system. Personally I think it is pretty messed up that the US Government will provide first rate health care to detainees at Guantanamo Bay, but not someone that has contributed to the economy of the USA!!!

I can hear and feel a rattle/vibration in my left lung right after inhalation (asthma related)?
Question by miss:D: I can hear and feel a rattle/vibration in my left lung right after inhalation (asthma related)?
I should let you know a little something about myself. I have asthma and I recently went to the doctors yesterday and asked them to check my lungs because I had symptoms of a cold (no fever, clear yellow phlem) and a bad cough (got better) which happened to be a viral infection. Viral infections (bronchitis? my doc was unable to see me so i saw another one and she didnt tell me if it it was bronchitis or not… i think it is) will go away on its own, but this rattle/audible vibration occurs right after an inhalation? Idk if you would call it wheezing because I know what wheezing feels like. I have found that out today and it is making me paranoid. Whats wrong with me? :/
I have also read that people who have COPD can develop lung cancer… do you think i might have this? I am only 21

I have been having chest pains in my left pectoral area. Not in the center where it would be heart related…?
Question by John V: I have been having chest pains in my left pectoral area. Not in the center where it would be heart related…?
I am a smoker since 16, and am 29 now. I used to have chronic bronchitis because of it. I had not been sick in almost 5 years, but recently go something with flu like symptoms. Started in my throat, then to my nose, then to my ears, and then to my lungs. I was on anti biotics and was still sick. Finally everything else went away, but my bronchitis was still there and so were the chest pains. I took another 10 days of anti biotics and the bronchitis is gone which I thought was the cause of the chest pains. And they are still there. Just above my left nipple by about 2 inches. It’s not muscular because I lift weights every week and feel no pain when lifting. So it must be internal. I wanted a chest xray but the doctor said I needed to wait til my bronchitis clears up. Any ideas or thought? Should I just go back to the doctor and get the chest xray now that the bronchitis is gone? Could lung cancer cause pain like that? Or is it just left over from the bronchitis? Any thoughts would be great….
Best answer:
Answer by Jen K
hard to answer without a longer history and a physical exam, but bronchitis doesn’t cause chest pain unless you were coughing enough to pull a intercostal muscle (muscle between the ribs). Pneumonia can cause chest pain by causing inflammation of the pleural lining of the lung (sometimes this pain is called “pleurisy”) – this pain would hurt more with a deep breath, and sometimes can linger for a while after the pneumonia goes away. Lung cancer is almost always painless (which is why it gets diagnosed too late — because people don’t realize they have it until it spreads). Lastly, a pulmonary embolism (blod clot to the lung) can cause chest pain worse with a deep breath, but is usually associated with shortness of breath. Bottom line is, you can’t really tell until you see your doctor again and tell him/her you have this residual chest pain. And I can’t sign off without saying, you HAVE to quit smoking. It’s my job!

Q&A: Back Pain related to lung cancer?
Question by The Dude: Back Pain related to lung cancer?
First of all, I’m a bit of a hypochondriac. I’ve had upper back pain for a while and my back frequently pops in that region. I toyed with cigarettes for a little bit a couple years back (I’m 22). It occurred to me that maybe the ache is in my lungs rather than my back….but i’m not sure about this. How far is the lungs from the spine? and is back pain felt in the spinal region an indicator for lung cancer?

Dr Pamela Abernethy lawyer, Simpson & Marwick Edinburgh Asbestos related Pleural Plaques ‘are good’
Dr Pamela Abernethy claims Pleural Plaques are ‘good for you’ in her appearance at the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee investigation of the Damages (Scotland) Bill, to aid Asbestos sufferers and their compensation claims. Dr Abernethy works for the Edinburgh legal firm of Simpson & Marwick. The odd thing is the same insurers which Dr Abernethy’s legal firm of Simpson & Marwick represent, also insure the asbestos victims lawyers and most of the Scottish Government including Kenny MacAskill’s Justice Department which sponsored the Damages (Scotland) Bill. Best answer:
Answer by parshuram
Partly.Because buring fossel fuel (like Coal, petrol) does release harmfull elements which are bad for the environment. Now though nuclear energy is much cleaner as it does not release similar substances but the biggest problem of Nuclear power is “Nuclear Waste”. This is a hazardous material and it needs to be stored safely.Further this waste remains in existence for centuries as it contains radioactive material. Many countries have built speical facilities to store this waste.Mind you if there is leakage or improper storage it will be unimaginably harmfull. Also there is a danger of Nuclear power plants being terrorism targets and Nuclear power plant accidents.

Question by Chadwick C: gues this is something related to ENT?
Hi – I am a 46 yo female, smoke 1/2 pack a day for about 3 years now, smoked 1 pack + for about 20 years before that. Healthy except for usual allergies, live in New Jersey, slight asthma, don’t use an inhaler & never had an attack, use Advair when I get a cold. Had FESS (endoscopic sinus surgery) end of January, everything went fine until coming out of anetheszia and felt a bad tightness in my chest & difficulty breathing. But what worries me is the CT report which I just got yesterday. Sections of the report include the following: “scattered subcentimeter pulmonary nodules, mild dependent atelectatic changes noted at lung _base_s bilaterally, 5mm area of lucency within left lower lobe which may represent a small pneumatocele or emphysematous change, atherosclerotic changes are seen within the aorta, degenerative changes within thoracic spine with mutilevel Schmorl’s nodes “. This all sounds so bad!!! Am I reading too much into it? Help!

Are pulmonary fibrosis and fibromyalgia related?
Question by Fortytipper: Are pulmonary fibrosis and fibromyalgia related?
My wife’s doctor was slow to diagnose her interstitial lung disease and now she has extensive scar tissue in her lungs and has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. If her doctor had caught her lung infection earlier could she have avoided the scar tissue and fibromyalgia ?
Best answer:
Answer by JosieKat
Pulmonary fibrosis is not directly related to fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia can be brought on by stress, so it may be indirectly related. It might be related to whatever your wife does have, if it is not fibromyalgia. While there is a possibility that she does have fibromyalgia, I think you need to get more opinions. Fibromyalgia is another big misdiagnosis (like ADHD) that frustrated Dr’s label to appease patients or their families, by giving a name to something that they can’t diagnose. It is approaching an 80% initial misdiagnosis rate, and many clinicians seem downright proud to hand out the diagnosis, because they don’t have to think anymore and just start addicting the patient to pain meds. According to the National Fibromyalgia Association, it takes about five years on average to get an accurate diagnosis of fibromyalgia. If this diagnosis came about in a week or two, definitely seek more opinions.

Is Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER) or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) related to respiratory system?
Question by Prakhar G: Is Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER) or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) related to respiratory system?
If yes, how? What will be the consequences if GERD remains untreated?
Best answer:
Answer by ƦєdAиgєℓ
GERD can be caused by asthma. If untreated, you can develop esophageal stricture, barrett’s esophagus and 0.5% who suffer from barrett’s esophagus will develop esophageal cancer per year. In most cases, GERD it is caused by low stomach acid/lack of digestive enzymes (digestive enzyme supplements can be purchased at health food stores), but other medical conditions include, diabetes, hypothyroidism, pregnancy, hiatus hernia, obesity, H Pylori bacteria.
