Question about programs like childfund. why do why support feeding them when it makes more sense to promote?
Question by : Question about programs like childfund. why do why support feeding them when it makes more sense to promote?
BIRTH CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!
as it is child fund operates by providing (assuming of course that it is not a scam) food, water, and education to children in poor, overpopulated, malnourished countries. Lets think about this with an analogy, if a cigarette smoker develops lung cancer as a result of his years of smoking, what does she have to do?-> get surgery or radiation to remove the cancer. Ok well problem solved right? NO not if she continues to smoke after she gets the surgery or radiation therapy, because she may get cancer yet again. (p.s. if you don’t like this analogy, just use your head and come up with any one of the hundreds of other possible ones that exist) The correlation between the smoker and the hungry children is that feeding the child is like having the surgery to remove the cancer and giving birth in an overpopulated, malnourished country is like continuing to smoke after having the surgery.
what does all of this mean? it means that the problem will never be solved by programs like ChildFund/ the problem will never be solved by simply feeding hungry mouths, because the problem is not hungry mouths. THE PROBLEM IS TOO MANY MOUTHS. Therefore, the logical solution is to limit the amount of mouths being produced.(i.e. birth control)
Any rational, intelligent person who is not blinded by sympathy for the “hungry mouths” can see that this is a cyclical problem that will never end until these OVERPOPULATED, malnourished, countries learn to control their population through birth control. when the birth rate decreases, the number of mouths to feed will decrease, which will increase the amount of food available to spread around, which will decrease starvation.

Does it make sense for public money to be used in fight against aids instead of cancer or heart disease?
Question by ech: Does it make sense for public money to be used in fight against aids instead of cancer or heart disease?
Since aids can be prevented 99% of the time by using a condom when having sex and using clean drug needles when using drugs, or better yet not having sex with people you don’t know and not using intravenous drugs in the first place.

Answer by Tony B
The answer to the question asked all depends on whether you have Aids or Cancer. Either would affect your point of view! Also, there are other ways of contracting Aids other than drugs and sex. Contaminated blood in medical treatments for a start.

Does my english paper make sense to you?
Question by dolphingirl_862003: Does my english paper make sense to you?
I had to pick a picture that meant something to me and write a paragraph about why..
“Cake!” Carly, Drennan, and Alex yelled simultaneously. It was May 21,2005, barely warm enough for them to play on a Slip-N-Slide. It was quite the sight, 3 young children running down a Slip-N-Slide just to get to their great-grandma’s 81st birthday cake. Everyone was happy on the warm, Sunday, afternoon. The family reunion, my grandma’s birthday, the last picture taken of my uncle. A mere 17 months later my uncle passed away because of lung cancer. That’s why I chose this picture. It contains a wonderful uncle, a great father, and the nicest man anybody could meet.

How does it make sense for God to create cancer/disease, cure a few of them, and have it called “miracle?”?
Question by Dem2008: How does it make sense for God to create cancer/disease, cure a few of them, and have it called “miracle?”?
Isn’t that like telling your wife you’re going to beat her, not doing it some of the time, and when you don’t do it, being expected to be called gracious and merciful?
And why would God play favorites when a person’s death is supposedly the moment that decides what they will be doing for eternity?

Making Sense and Dollars from Screenings
Making Sense and Dollars from Screenings
Article by Larry Emmott
Have you seen the CSI-type shows where the crime scene detective puts on some funky goggles and shines an eerie blue light over the scene, looking for clues? They are using an alternative light source to reveal details that are difficult to detect under normal white light. The same kind of technology is behind today’s oral cancer detection systems. These new dental practice management tools and technologies help us treat our patients better.Detection toolsThere are two major oral cancer detection systems currently available. ViziLite Plus from Zila Pharmaceuticals and VELscope from LED Dental. These systems appear similar in that they both use a blue light and filters; however, they employ quite different science.ViziLite Plus is a disposable chemical light source packaged in a wand. When the chemicals are mixed the wand gives off a specific blue light that is used to illuminate the oral tissues. Certain changes in the mucosa are easier to detect with this alternative light source.VELscope produces a specific blue light as well. However, the tissues are then viewed through the VELscope hand-piece, which filters out most of the ambient reflected light. What the user sees through the hand-piece is the natural fluorescence of the mucosal tissue.Dysplasia (even early dysplasia) produces chemical changes at the cellular level in both the epithelium and the underlying connective tissue, which results in decreased fluorescence. The ViziLite Plus system includes a tissue stain called TBlue, which, when applied to lesions discovered with the alternative light source, allows for visualization of the lesion with normal white light.Just the first stepNeither system will actually diagnose oral cancer. The only true diagnostic protocol remains a biopsy. What these instruments do is enhance the routine visual and manual head and neck exam. They give the practitioner the ability to visualize tissue changes that often are not apparent with normal unfiltered white light.”VELscope is not a magic cancer stick,” said Dr. David Morgan, the Chief Science Officer of LED Dental. “It does not replace the traditional head, neck and oral soft-tissue exam.”Buying in to detectionIn addition to different science, these companies employ different delivery and pricing methods.ViziLite Plus is a disposable wand combined with single dose of a mouth rinse and swabs of TBlue. The average cost is .50 per use. The low unit cost makes it easy to get started with a small investment.VELscope is sold as an instrument consisting of a base and attached hand-piece. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is ,995.00. The relatively high start up cost can pose a barrier to entry. On the other hand, the ongoing expense of the disposable ViziLite kits adds up quickly. The math is easy: ,995 / .50 = 378.If you saw eight hygiene patients a day, four days a week and half of them needed an oral cancer exam, that would be 16 a week. You would exceed 378 exams in less than six months.A revised protocolThere is a tendency to think, “The exam I have been doing up to now has been good enough. I will only need to use an enhanced protocol on high-risk patients or those over 40.”That approach is flawed. Anyone who receives a routine head and neck exam as a new patient or recall patient is a candidate for an enhanced examination. After all, it is the routine patient with no obvious risk factors who is most likely to be missed. The protocol most often recommended is for all patients 18 and older to receive a head and neck soft-tissue exam at least once a year. This may help you catch other oral lesions not found in high-risk cancer patients alone, including Candida, HPV and even HIV.Most patients are probably not aware they are receiving a head and neck cancer exam as part of a routine examination. Introducing this technology to patients is a great way to let them know you are providing the service, helping differentiate your office from everyone else.Detecting the profitsThere are about 4,000 dentists using VELscope and 12,000 ViziLite users. Together, that is less than 2% of practicing dentists. Joining that minority can be beneficial because patients who believe you are providing advanced care are more likely to stay and to refer others.Sometimes the justification for adapting a new diagnostic technology is that it is the right thing to do. In this case, it is not only the right thing to do-early detection of oral cancer can literally save a life-it also can be profitable. When you use one of these systems you are providing a service that is different, so you can justify a different fee. Some users do not have a separate fee but most charge between and for the enhanced exam. The math to justify a return on investment for either system is simple. If you have an average patient base of 2,500 people and you do an enhanced examination on half of them once a year at that is an additional income of ,000.If you subtract the cost of the ,995 VELscope, your gross profit is ,005.If you use ViziLite Plus, the exam kits will cost you .50 each, and 1,250 x .50 = ,125. If you subtract the cost of the ViziLite from the extra ,000, your gross profit is ,875.Beyond the basicsDentists can combine examination findings with other technology to further enhance diagnosis. For example, it is possible to attach a camera to the VELscope hand-piece and take high-quality digital photos of the tissue. These images can become part of the electronic patient record and be used to observe changes over time.As more data is collected and more experience developed with these protocols, dentists will be able to send the digital photos (both enhanced and normal) to a specialist for a preliminary evaluation that could save patients time and money.Remember, high-tech dentistry is not just about computers. New diagnostic techniques continue to help us treat our patients better. The future is coming and it will be amazing!

Personal Injury Lawyers and common sense?
Question by tomuk2007: Personal Injury Lawyers and common sense?
Are Personal Injury Lawyers good or bad and what about common sense? Here is what I mean.
Eg. A man working in a factory sees that something has got stuck inside one of the machines, without thinking he crosses a thick red line on the floor and tries to free the thing thats stuck, in doing so he injures himself.
After he’s come back from hospital, he calls the Personal Injury Lawyers and sues the company for injuring him.
What do you think of this?
An example of this could happen, and to stop it the manager could have a rule saying if anyone breaks the safety rules, they not only risk their lives but also their job, eg. Break the rule, lose your job.
Best answer:
Answer by luckyzimmy
In this country, it is not about common sense. It is about uncommon dollars.
Anybody can sue anyone for any imagined wrong. It is a system gone wild, and very difficult to reform, even though the need is obvious.
Since the laws are make mostly by lawyers, it is hard to that they will ever do anything to derail their gravy train.
At the very least, I wish they would change the rule to let the loser pay the fees.
At the present time, there is a legal remedy available in the form of starting an action against the plaintiff for malicious prosecution, personal injury, etc. But that will happen only if you can find an attorney who is willing to take action against one of his own.
With tort reform, the chances of the truly injured should not be diminished, but should be enhanced.

Marijuana: Compassion & Common Sense – Show #024 Season 1
Dr. Donald Tashkin of UCLA Geffin School of medicine talks to Lanny about the effects of cannabis (marijuana, pot, herb, smoke, etc) on the lungs. Dr. Tashkin reveals the results of his study on the effects to the lungs, effects on congestive obstructive pulmonary disease, and the minor irritation experienced as a result of smoking marijuana. Part 1 of a 2 part interview. Cannabis was made illegal because the paper industry was split between the hemp and the wood pulp factions. The wood pulp people had more money and won, which caused a negative ripple effect in our society such as the loss of a valuable medicine. Since the prohibition of cannabis began the cancer rates have grown at an alarming rate. Cannabis is used for thousands of purposes and it’s loss of use has caused great hardship to everyone. It is time for truth to prevail and prohibition to stop.

Which makes more sense in November? ?
Question by Obama will lose!: Which makes more sense in November? ?
1. McCain has over 30 yrs of proven experience, character, leadership, personal ethics, clear vision on American needs, proven knowledge of foreign affairs, lower taxes, proven judgement.
2.Obama the Senator. He has only been a Senator for 18 months. But with all the recesses, four day weekends, campaigning and absences, Obama has only spent about 6 weeks of workdays on the Senate floor as one of the most junior Senators.
Most of his votes, about 80% when he was not absent, have been “present” or “abstain”. He also chairs a committee on Afghanistan that has never met because the chairman has never called a meeting. As a trial lawyer he only tried 14 cases in court – and minor ones at that.
As a “community organizer” his major cause was getting the asbestos out of a housing project. After 2 years of trying, the asbestos was still there when he left and is still there even now that he is a Senator and esumably has some pull to get things done.
That’s it. His entire real world work resume. 6 weeks work in the Senate with nothing to show for it.Two years as a lawyer and only 14 minor trials. And two years as a “community organizer” with nothing accomplished.
Doesn’t take a rocket scientist or anyone with half a brain to answer this one HONESTLY, does it?
Steve: Actually Pres Bush did have experience he was the Governor of Texas twice with a record tax cut on Texas of over 2 billion dollars, and was successful in several businesses, Obama on the other hand only has 145 days of experience and has done nothing in terms of running any businesses.

Do I need someone to talk some real sense to me?
Question by No Pinheads: Do I need someone to talk some real sense to me?
I support a candidate who spent over 20 yrs and has the great judgment of going to racist hate filled church and didn’t know anything that went on.
I support a candidate who started his career at the dinner table of a home grown terrorist, served on several boards with him and didn’t know anything about him, and blows it off as saying he was only 8 when it happened.
I support a candidate who has no experience, served only 143 days in the senate and when he voted 80% of his votes when he was not absent, have been “present” or “abstain”. , who has not introduced but a few new bills, and voted over 97% with the Democrats and never reached across the aisle.
I support a candidate who has experience as a “community organizer” his major cause was getting the asbestos out of a housing project. After 2 years of trying, the asbestos was still there when he left and is still there even now that he is a Senator and presumably has some pull to get things done.
I support a candidate who thinks stealing from the rich is okay, and redistributing the wealth to those who don’t work or don’t pay taxes is okay.
I support a candidate who thinks by repeating the same lie of not raising taxes on everyone by repealing the Bush tax cuts is giving them a tax break.
I support a candidate who is the Chairman of a committee on Afghanistan that has never held a single meeting, yet claims to be to be an expert on the Middle East.
I support a Democrat to be President, yet the Democrat Congress has a LOWER rating than Pres Bush and I actually think that a Democrat will be ‘good’ for my country, with some great speeches of ‘hope and change’.
McCain Palin will win in November – no one votes for a marxist

Our neighbors got their siding and roofing redone. They had asbestos tile and the people who came and did it was a family owned company. They didnt wear any protective clothing and just had on masks. However they did handle the siding delicately and it was in good condition. However, the roofers didnt handle it carefully and didnt even wear masks. We live in PA. Why did that happen? They are both licensed professionals. Articles online make it seem like you need to wear space suits.

Yes, siding and roofing may contain Asbestos – but its not confined within the home – but on the outside – and not subject to being breathed -Only asbestos to worry about is within the home.

Q&A: Did you hear about Common Sense??
Question by Blue Sky: Did you hear about Common Sense??
THE DEATH OF COMMON SENSE
Today we mourn the passing of an old friend by the name of Common Sense. Common sense lived a long life but died from heart failure at the brink of the millennium. No one really knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes, factories and offices, helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness.
For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in out of the rain, the early bird gets the worm, and life isn’t always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids), and it’s okay to come in second.
A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including feminism, body piercing, whole language and new math.
But his health declined when he became infected with the If-it-only-helps-one-person-it’s-worth-it bug. In recent decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal regulation. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers and enlightened auditors. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies, reports of six year old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, a teen suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but cannot inform the parent when the female student is pregnant or wants an abortion.
Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports.
As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments, regarding questionable regulations for asbestos, low-flow toilets, smart guns, the nurturing of Prohibition Laws and mandatory air bags.
Finally when told that the homeowners association restricted exterior furniture only to that which enhanced property values, he breathed his last. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers: Rights, Tolerance and Whiner.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Does this about breast cancer make sense?
Question by Aleida Wiese: Does this about breast cancer make sense?
For years I’ve been wondering many things about breast cancer.
Why breast and not other cancers? I guess because most other cancers have an already identified “culprit” already:
Lung cancer= smoking and asbestos, among others
Cervical= HPV
Stomach= Helicobacter pylori
Also apparently some types are hereditary.
But regarding breast cancer there seems to not be a proven cause. At least not all scientists and doctors agree on the ones proposed. And it seems that maybe many more than one thing causes it. For example I was just surprised at finding out that the first breast cancers were already being described 1,600 years before the Christian era! And it appears to have been lack of proper hygiene in the Middle Ages which caused some breast cancers, which apparently were not that uncommon (even when most women lived short lives), because I have just seen three paintings of women w/ breast cancer done by renown artists in the middle ages!
Then on the other hand it has also been proven that post menopausal women get breast cancer because of an excess of estrogen, which mostly appears to be given in artificial form to combat the natural (and probably superfluous negative results) of aging.
Now, I also saw complete story on CBS’s 60 Minutes over a decade ago in which a female scientist who worked at company strongly believed that GLYCOL was a direct link to breast cancer!
I also read around that time that Asian women had very low incidence of breast cancer, but tended to develop it after living 10 years in the U.S.
I am thus against those complaining that much more attention and funds is given breast cancer studies. And furthermore believe this should be treated as a national medical emergency. I am not exaggerating. Simply because I could draw up a list here of even very young women who are already battleing. And by young I mean in their late 20′s and very early 30′s!
But my original question (which I almost forgot), is:
Shouldn’t science be concentrating more in studying every single thing about tissues in the breast? Simply because there must be something to these which make it more vulnerable to many type cancers?
Best answer:
Answer by Skittles
nothing is ever CERTAIN to cause it. for example. someone who smokes all their life could still never get cancer. on the other hand someone who has never smoked in their life could get lung cancer.
breast cancer is hereditary but smoking has also been linked.
basically, it’s not completely understood (i mean all types). there is no single or guaranteed cause for it but things like smoking increase your chances.

If you’re not here for equality, then simply don’t respond.
I’ve grown very concerned that autism will prove to be like mesothelioma, i.e., that we will ultimately discover that autism is directly caused by some common substance (like a flame retardent or insecticide), just like mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. Get rid of asbestos and mesothelioma goes away. Get rid of XYZ substance and autism goes away.
I’m concerned that we as human beings are leaving a natural wilderness (as we cultivate civilization) only to create a new one.

I do think that we are creating an uninhabitable world for ourselves and our children. We have upset the balance.
In Canada, it is mandatory that children get vacinations. They cannot be enrolled in school without getting them. I struggled with that because I have read a lot of studies that suggest that autism MAY be linked to these shots.
I share your fears, however, people do not want to change their lifestyle. They want all the SUV’s and fast food and all of the modern conveniences and if the result of that is not a direct threat then it is not on their radar as a threat at all. People are so quick to attack smokers, but the reality is that pollution in our air and water, central air and forced air furnaces, synthetic fibers and processed food are much wore for our health and the health of our children. Like I said, if there is not a clear and direct threat, people choose to look the other way.

When Adsense just makes sense
When Adsense just makes sense
Article by Pierre Basson
When Adsense just sounds correct Q: Of the billions of sites online, what’s the web, what is the only thing just about every site has in common?A: Almost every one is making an attempt mesothelioma needs an incredible quantity of advertising in some fashion.I’m ashamed to admit it, but many years back when affiliate programs looked inventive, I too tried to cash in by linking to Amazon.com books and music. Did that really work for anyone? Chances are most will say no. Failed to work for me either. Not only did I not make an additional buck, I didn’t even make an additional penny. The final analysis is, most affiliate marketing programmes will not work for most web sites. Though, nowadays, even well centered affiliate marketing programs don’t appear to produce much.Forget affiliate programs! Forget the ad networks ( or at least as I drove to being a secondary form of ad income )! Google’s Adsense is where it’s at! What was once offered only to the largest of the web, is now available to those among us running smaller niche sites. And how could there be any form of advertising cooler than one that in to determine which adverts to display? I mean, this is what we’ve all been waiting for. Strongly targeted adverts, non-intrusive, routinely shuffled to maintain freshness, and they pay well. And when I say pay well, I mean, the potential exists to make in 24 hours what I had previously been making in a whole month through FastClick. Glaringly, I have waived bye bye to ad networks and associate programs.Like myself, most modern day web developers have opted not to join affiliate programs and have instead turned to ad networks such as FastClick, TribalFusion, Burst, etc. I joined FastClick since it was asserted to have the highest CPM rates. And for a long while, I was pretty chuffed with the results. I was ready to make a breath-taking 50 cents a day. Yes, I was chuffed with that. So, fifty cents a day, or an approximate .00 a month was great. Every bit helps when you’re self employed. See how to start with Google Ad Sense Income-Don’t get me wrong, Adsense is not perfect. There are some things that could definitely be done to boost the system. One of the biggest gripes I have, and I’ve noticed others with the same opinion, is the general shortage of tracking. It sure would be great to know which advertisements are being clicked and how much those adverts are producing. But at the same time, I can understand why that information may be self-defeating for Google. The lack of control over the border colour and link colour is a bit unattractive too. All of the factors aside, the purpose of the advertisements is to make some extra money. See how to start with Google Ad Sense Income-The future for affiliate marketing programs and ad networks has become very bleak. It’s going to be awfully engaging to see how Adsense matures, as the first product is already undeniably far better than announced competition.Learn more about earning an immediate revenue with Ad sense.
