Is this something serious going on with my body? Please help!?
Question by : Is this something serious going on with my body? Please help!?
I am 20 and on Monday. I originally went to my doctor for a swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck that I discovered 4 months ago without any symptoms that would indicate lymphoma except for the lump, and that same morning I was to go to the doctor I came down with a sore throat.
Anyway he checked my swollen lymph node and prescribed me antibiotics, asked me a series of question on if I have allergies and referred me to get a chest X-ray to make sure its not lung cancer, took a blood test to check for infection or Leukemia. He also told me Worse Case Scenario would be the “C” word like lymphoma, Lung cancer, or Leukemia and I NEVER smoke or drink. Anyway the same day I came from the doctor on Monday I found two more swollen Lymph nodes one above my collar bone and the other about one is about 2 inches from my original lymph node.
Also today I have been having a congested nose and blowing out mucus, my throat is STILL sore, but not as bad as Monday and I have been having a sore dull pain on the left side of my tongue(not the surface of tounge) all the way in the back on the side and when I looked at my tongue its like I have some swelling on that side as well as some dark veiny streak and when I touch it it hurts. No pus it coming out it just hurts a little and is causing my teeth on the left side to hurt as well as my throat on the left side. I don’t know if this is normal? My jaw also hurts on the left side, but I’ve already had my wisdom teeth taken out last year cause I use to get this same pain when my wisdom teeth were coming in, but it stopped when I had them taken out. Now the pain returned a little. I don’t know what’s going? It’s just that since the doctor told me the terrifying news on what MIGHT be I have just been freaking out like crazy! Am I dying? Is this something serious? Am I truly over reacting? IS this normal? I’ve been taking advil which is helping with the pain on my tongue

Answer by jessie
Ur lymph nodes draw out infection from ur body they take in the infection which makes them swell, now it sounds like u have a throat infection which is causing the nodes , cancer doesn’t tend to affect young people seen as ur 20 u should be fine also apparently cancer ‘doesn’t hurt’ ur doctor seems a bit dramatic to tell u that with out knowing anything else/ results.
There are so many reasons why lymph node can be raised very few of which are cancer related.
So relax I’m sure U’ll be fine ![]()

Question by : In need of some ( serious) advise on my behalf. Anyone opposing this will be deleted. See Below.>>?
I am in need of some serious advise. I am an adult woman in need of food. I have been collecting food stamps for awhile now..because I have been out of work for a long.. time. My name is only on my lease. My mom who has lung cancer lives with me. I am only on my food stamps. She buys her own food. I did recently get a part time job on some weekends and one week day night with a Catering company. I start in May. I am going to get a pretty good wage per hour. But.. will probably be able to still collect because of the lack of hours. I had to take whatever I could get at this point and because I care for my mother in the day and take her to her appointments for her cancer.
Today.. I get a knock on the back door. It was a woman from the Human Services department. She asked if my mother lives here. (Of course I said no) I don’t want to go to jail or prison.. but we need food. My mothers money will be going for chemo treatments which will be the price of a new fully loaded Hummer when all is said and done. This is life. As with the economy.
I need to know what you would do…Or what I can do.. on my behalf.. to save my butt here. I am trying to be a good daughter and have been doing all the right things here. I don’t want problems. I wish I never answered the door but I did. The woman for some strange reason did not ask who I was/my name. She said she heard or has down that she lives with her daughter. My mother goes sometimes.. to the hospital or clinic in town to see a doctor. That is the only place she told she lives with me. Who would think.. you can’t even or should withhold whom you live with these days. But.. you do.
My moms mail comes here. I thought about getting a PO Box .. but that will cost 60-90.00 a year. Should we do this?
Because of my moms condition.. I can’t be moving and we can’t afford to be without food. My mom worked in her life 25 years for a factory. But.. as I said chemo is threw the roof expensive. I spoke with people who spent 30 thousand and another 100,000.00 on it. That is the food money right there. We have to live. I am so.. upset. Please .. Help Us.
Thanks.

There is very little that isn’t known about people in the system. All sorts of information is linked to people’s social security numbers, and the woman who came to your door really was on the right track. When dealing with agencies that provide services to low income people, it is best to be honest, as the downside can have severe consequences. You may be better off all around if you reveal your situation to whatever agency or agencies are active in your case. You might receive more benefits once your situation can be examined in a new light. Also, don’t threaten people with deletion. It isn’t necessary or polite.

How is it some people can smoke for 40 years and not develop anything serious like lung cancer or emphysema?
Question by : How is it some people can smoke for 40 years and not develop anything serious like lung cancer or emphysema?
My husband’s grandfather lived to be 93 “chewing” (he would put this thing in his mouth & spit, not sure what it really is but I know it’s bad.) smoking, & drinking pepsi & beer every night. Whereas I know there are people that could just smoke cigarettes for a few years and die a horrible death. Why is this?

My father smoked in his early 20s, but he gave it up to become healthier. Then, at 48 he passed away from colon cancer. If you ask anyone that knew him they’d tell you what a wonderful man he was. There’s no explaining it. Bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people…it sucks, but hey that’s life, right?

Family: Joe Paterno in serious condition, inspired by support

State College, Pennsylvania (CNN) — Throngs of Penn State students gathered in front of a statue of Joe Paterno early Sunday, braving freezing temperatures to pay tribute to the ailing legendary ex-coach. Some shoveled snow so others could walk up and touch Paterno’s outstretched hand on the statue. Paterno, 85, was in serious condition at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, Pennsylvania, after suffering from lung cancer and a broken pelvis. “Over the last few days Joe Paterno has experienced further health complications. His doctors have now characterized his status as serious,” family spokesman Dan McGinn said Saturday. “His family will have no comment on the situation and asks that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.” Relatives said Paterno, 85, was able to communicate Saturday night. Jay Paterno tweeted that he drove by the statue late Saturday night. “Just told my Dad about all the love & support — inspiring him,” he wrote. His brother, Scott, sent tweets saying a report their father had died were “wrong.” The family was upset about the misinformation, a source close to them said. Media falsely report Paterno’s death Several websites that reported Saturday night that Paterno had died later apologized for the error, including the Penn State student news website Onward State, the first to report the erroneous information. “To the Penn State community and to the Paterno family most of all, I could not be more sorry for the emotional …

I think i could have cancer ?! Or another serious condition…?!?
Question by drpride3: I think i could have cancer ?! Or another serious condition…?!?
Im so scared and paranoid. Im a 14 year old male and i used to smoke but only for about 2 months. i used to smoke tabacco and marijuana. Ive probably been inhaling second hand smoke for a good 3 or 4 months. But im very worried. My throat hurts lately and it feels almost inflamed and very uncomfertable. Im having trouble swallowing. Ive been coughing excessively and when i try to clear my throat of phlegm it just wont go away. My throat almost feel like its throbbing sometimes. Ive been having difficulty breathing as well. My cehst feels very tight. Im very scared i could have lung, larynx or throat cancer. Or some other condition. My grandpa died of emphysema so its possible i could have gotten it through genes. I was also born with mild asthma. I feel very fatigued most of the time and out of energy. Perhaps relating to the fact that im out of breath. I mean i really didnt smoke for that long and i definetely wasnt a heavy smoker either !! I smoked ONE black and mild a day and a blunt every 1 or 2 weeks. Please im to the point of dispair !! If i tell my parents to take me to the doctor theyll just overreact and get worried. And probably say i told you so. So i just dont know what to do. Do you think i could have any seriouse disease ?! I can barely sleep at night thinking about it, im so worried.

Serious Health Question?
Question by : Serious Health Question?
My dad has had this chronic cough for about 8 months now. He is about 70 pounds overweight, drinks too much beer, smokes, and eats awfully. I know you can’t give me a diagnosis, but what do you think this cough could indicate? I’m looking to print some things out for him to read so that it will motivate him to lose weight, stop smoking and drinking so much and eat better. I know he has high cholesteral, he snores very loudly and his feet hurt a lot. An idea of a major problem (heart disease/lung cancer/etc.) that he could potentially have or get would be very helpful so that I could help him get on a new track. Thanks!

Answer by Alex Mason
Ok I know what you are describing. This is what I think. I could be TOTALLY WRONG though.
When you gain weight, you don’t always just gain weight on the outside of your body. You can also build up fat inside of your body near your organs. That is bad. All that extra fat on the outside and in could be putting stress on his lungs, making it harder for him to breathe. And when you smoke, you are literally burning holes in your lungs. All that smoke kills the little sacks in the lungs that make it possible to breathe. And he snores? I think in his case he might have sleep apnea. Yah, not good.

My dad’s 66 and on chemo for lung cancer.
He’s been extremely dizzy and weak, and today’s he’s been throwing up black liquid. Mixed in with blood. His stomach is hard and tender to the touch.
He won’t go to the doc or let me call an ambulance. My relatives say it’s so cold outside it would do him more harm the good to leave right now, as opposed to hoping it gets better.
Would you wait or go now?

What could be wrong with me? SERIOUS ANSWER PLEASE!!?
Question by Kailee’s Mommy: What could be wrong with me? SERIOUS ANSWER PLEASE!!?
This year has been traumatic to say the least. In May, I had to have an emergency C-Section, and almost lost my daughter. In August my husband and I moved 1500 miles from home to visit with his side of the family. During this time I found out my Mom had 6 months to live. She told me this AFTER I moved. She knew all this before we moved. On October 15th (my 28th birthday btw) my mother passed away. It was VERY hard on me. My mom, who was in ICU for 11 days before she was moved to ‘comfort care’, died as she was holding my infant daughter. The granddaughter she so longed to see again. I watched my Mom die in the hospital. She was gasping for air, and looked so scared to me. Mom had an irreversable lung disease and was not a candidate for lung transplant.
Since we have been back home, I have not been able to sleep. Everytime I close my eyes, I see my Mom in that state. I try to tire myself out to thepoint to where I am sleeping sitting up, then when I get to bed all I can do is stare at the clock. Also, I have noticed I have been very moody (which could very well be from the lack of sleep), and anxious/paranoid.
I have trouble concentrating on things, and I feel like my brain is mush. I also have ZERO sex drive, which is affecting my relationship with my husband. I have an appointment with my GP next week. My question is, should I tell her about all of this, or do you think it is a phase, and it too shall pass?
Best answer:
Answer by !~Moo~!
It’s very simple……You miss your mom. And you must be going through a lot of stress so that will cause many of your actions such as with sleeping and moodiness.
You might as well tell your GP about it, they could possibly help because sometime you can fall into depression with these things.
Don’t be afraid so show your emotions, let it all out.
I hope you will feel better.

Q&A: How serious is Pnemonia while undergoing chemotherapy for cancer (seminoma)?
Question by Lucky Mom: How serious is Pnemonia while undergoing chemotherapy for cancer (seminoma)?
My husband was diagnosed on December 7, 2011 with allergies after seeing his doctor for a persistent cough would not go away. When he came home and told me what the doctor said, I told him that he was crazy that he was 50 years old and has never had an alergy ever. Especially in December. Not typical for allergy wheather. After a day of trying the perscribed inhaler for the cough it made him cough so hard he threw up.
I called the doctor the next morning and told him that my husband was worse and over the evening had developed a temperature. The Doctor asked him to come in the next day to see him again and they decided to take an x-ray of his lungs. He gave my husband the results and said he had Pnemonia. He gave him a perscription for antibiotics and said that he would be fine in 7 days. Which would allow him to travel since we had bought and paid for a trip to Hawaii with our family for the holidays.
Two days before the trip I called the doctor and told him that my husband was not getting any better with the antibiotic and was getting nervous that it was so close to the time we were to leave. My husband still had the terrible cough and pain when taking a deap breath. Long story short, he asked my husband to come in the next day and told him that the radiologist notified him that it was a large tumor that was connected to his heart and lung, and it would need to be biopsied to check for cancer. Now we are the night before the trip that we had saved for years to go on. We didn’t know what to do. The kids and I all wanted to cancel but my husband wanted to go. He thought about the possibility of it being cancer and possibly not having the opportunity to go again. We did go and managed to have an ok trip. There was just no getting away from the looming what if factor.
Anyhow, we got home and he they did the biopsy which confirmed seminoma (Testicular Cancer) They started chemo right away. He just finished his last round 2 weeks ago today and for the last 3 of the two weeks was in the hosdpital for sepsis. They believe that is cleared up and he came home yesterday. I called the doctor because he has still had a horriffic cough. His Dr. said that he has Pnemonia and an fungal infection. My question is… Is he still at risk of major complications or possibly death by these infections and if so why did they send him home?
Best answer:
Answer by rachel
he will be at a real risk for complications for some time.my husband died within 10 weeks of finishing chemo and radiotherapy for lung cancer.he got an oral Candida infection, pneumonia [which went undiagnosed] and sepsis.in a study of medicare patients.one of the main causes of death in cancer patients is pneumonia and sepsis.chemotherapy knocks off the immune system and leaves the body vulnerable to infection, frequently pneumonia.it is written in the info sheets on whatever chemo drugs they use that it is a very slight possibility that it may damage the immune system.it is not only a slight possibility though,it happens all the time!

lung infections are serious, as they need to be treated . . babies or adults
if you are asking because your child has an infection and is being treated already . . and you need to know if there is cause for alarm . . . well that is dependent on whether your child is home being administered antibiotics prescribed from the doctor or if your child has been hospitalized . .
If you’re asking because you suspect your child has a pulmonary infection and you want to know if there should be some concern and if it is appropriate to get your kid in to see the doc . . then the answer is yes . . as soon a reasonably possible

How to induce a hoarse voice. Serious help ONLY?
Question by Lady Secret: How to induce a hoarse voice. Serious help ONLY?
I already know screaming is effective, but I’m actually trying to cause my autistic sister to have a hoarse voice because she gets this extremely bad tantrums where she’s constantly screaming. Her voice is her worst weapon, and because we (the family) live in an apartment building, it is likely to get us in trouble with the landlord. Screaming for her does not work whatsoever. There’s not enough psychology in the world to stop her tantrums, but to give her space. Even then, the screaming lingers for hours, sometimes days. She has lung disease and seizers, so it’s dangerous for her to be screaming like that for so long. I heard about some lemon ingredient with I think baking soda, but idk. Serious answers please.
Spell check: seizers=seizures
She’s also in danger for stressing herself out into a heart attack because of her tantrums and breathing problems.
Best answer:
Answer by oldtimekid2
Screaming/yelling is the only way I’ve heard of, but there are a few things that should be said. Trying to induce a hoarse voice through chemicals (which is what lemon, baking soda, etc would be) would likely only work by actually damage the tissues in her throat and/or voice box. If she has lung disease, inducing a hoarse voice like that could cause problems for her lungs (which could make for a serious problem).
Along the same lines, but on the flip side, the more times you damage certain tissues and let them heal, the stronger they tend to be… “what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger” really applies to a lot of things with the body’s recovery. In other words, if you find something that will damage her throat tissues like that, repetitive induction might make the tissues stronger, which will help her yell/scream longer (maybe louder) and might require more of the chemicals to take her voice away again.
Your best bet would probably be to seek outside help more than just something you can do. Some counselors/psychiatrists/doctors that specialize in autism may have seen research that can help autistic children to calm down easier, and that might be your best bet. Some people might see forcibly removing her voice (chemically or physically) as a form of torture or punishment as well, so I wouldn’t try to induce any of this without seeking assistance from a professional first. Good luck!

Question by : I am in need of some serious advise please. No rude remarks. I will delete. My mother has lung cancer see belo?
My mother has lung cancer. She is living with me. I need my days free in order to take her to upcoming appointments, tests, procedures and treatments. This is not helping in me being able to work. I am very limited with the hours I can work because of all this. I have to work nights only.
My brother live in another state. He is an adult as am I. He is a year younger then I am single. He is an alcoholic. He has a job driving a wine truck that supports his habit. He told my mother he has cut down. I am not sure how true this is or not. He has a nasty side when he drinks too much. When is not drinking he is cranky but not that bad. He lives/owns a mobile home.
If you were in my situation.. would you ask or mention to him coming here to help out so that you/I < < could work more hours and he can then take her to appointments? My mother does not have a car, I do. He would have to drive here in order for this to work out.
I am not sure if this would help me or make things worse for me since he drinks. I don't .
Thanks

It might be the best thing you could do now for the both of them is ask her to see if your brother could stop over for a few days an help out the family. he would have to watch the drinking around his Mother an help you. If he can’t keep any control on his drinking you can send him back.

Question by italianchikita: dead serious question…?
I don’t want a sugar-coated answer, just give it to me how it is. My grandfather died of cancer, my cousin died of cancer, my aunt survived breast cancer, my uncle survived skin cancer, my grandfather almost got lung cancer. I know cancer victims almost always have a family history of it. I have a feeling, well more, like I know that I will live a short life. What are the chances that I will develope cancer in my lifetime? I don’t use sun screen, I just can’t stand it, and my mother smokes around me. My sister had a nightmare last night that I died, and I had a dream that I met Jesus last night. It’s all so real, and I can almost feel that my time is coming.

Is there a disease she could possibly have? (SERIOUS! please help!!)?
Question by samanntha: Is there a disease she could possibly have? (SERIOUS! please help!!)?
My good friend from high school has been quite ill for a few months now. (she’s 26) I asked this question somewhere else, and although got no good answers found out that a woman’s daughter has basically EVERY SINGLE symptom listed. Her daughter started getting them when she was 11, she’s now 14 and things are getting worse.
They’re fairly usual symptoms, but they’re causing the destruction of their lives. Enough chit chat, they are:
-TERRIBLE insomnia, up until past 4 every night, no medications or lifestyle changes help.
-Frequent spells of tremors. It’s almost a hyperactive thing, except it mostly happens when they have no energy.
-Terrible nausea very often. Results in shaking and crying.
-Acid reflex.
-Often very lightheaded, frequent headaches/migraines
-Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing although there are no signs of any lung problems.
-If they don’t eat they get bloated, then gassy but not gross just basically air. This is a very painful thing.
-Changes in ability of vision.
-Extreme mood fluxes, (almost like a manic depressive)
-Become very impulsive and apathetic.
-Suicidal tendencies or thoughts.
These girls are not acting out for attention. It took a lot of effort to find out these details in both cases.
I’m very very worried is there any disease they could have that we can cure for them?? I hate seeing my friend’s life unravel. She can’t do ANYTHING anymore, not even eat!
I know depression etc is psychological but I’ve heard that things like brain tumors can make you depressed.
JUST PLEASE HELP!!
Doctors say they’re fine
because they hide their symptoms
but I see the pain my friend suffers. So much pain. How do I stop this??
Oh and one very big one I forgot
-Difficulty moving. No energy. Body just *Wont* move, as if you were dehydrated, although it happens when they’re fully hydrated. She becomes very weak and also dilusional. This happens about 2 times a week.

If you smoke and you still don’t believe that there’s a definite link between smoking and bronchial troubles, heart disease and lung cancer, then you are certainly deceiving yourself. No one will accuse you of hypocrisy. Let us just say that you are suffering from a bad case of wishful thinking. This needn’t make you too uncomfortable because you are in good company. Whenever the subject of smoking and health is raised, the governments of most countries hear no evil, see no evil and smell no evil. Admittedly, a few governments have taken timid measures. In Britain, for instance, cigarette advertising has been banned on television. The conscience of the nation is appeased, while the population continues to puff its way to smoky, cancerous death. You don’t have to look very far to find out why the official reactions to medical findings have been so luke-warm. The answer is simply money. Tobacco is a wonderful commodity to tax. It’s almost like a tax on our daily bread. In tax revenue alone, the government of Britain collects enough from smokers to pay for its entire educational facilities. So while the authorities point out ever so discreetly that smoking may, conceivably, be harmful, it doesn’t do to shout too loudly about it. This is surely the most short-sighted policy you could imagine. While money is eagerly collected in vast sums with one hand, it is paid out in increasinly vaster sums with the other. Enormous amounts are spent on cancer research and on efforts to cure people suffering from the disease. Countless valuable lives are lost. In the long run, there is no doubt that everybody would be much better-off if smoking were banned altogether. Of course, we are not ready for such drastic action. But if the governments of the world were honestly concerned about the welfare of their peoples, you’d think they’d conduct aggressive anti- smoking campaigns. Far from it! The tobacco industry is allowed to spend staggering sums on advertising. Its advertising is as insidious as it is dishonest. We are never shown pictures of real smokers coughing up their lungs early in the morning. That would never do. The advertisements always depict virile, clean-shaven young men. They suggest it is manly to smoke, even positively healthy! Smoking is associated with the great open-air life, with beautiful girls, true love and togetherness. What utter nonsense! For a start, governments could begin by banning all cigarette and tobacco advertising and should then conduct anti-smoking advertising campaigns of their own. Smoking should be banned in all public places like theatres, cinemas and restaurants. Great efforts should be made to inform young people especially of the dire consequences of taking up the habit. A horrific warning – say, a picture of a death’s head – should be included in every packet of cigarettes that is sold. As individuals we are certainly weak, but if governments acted honestly and courageously, they could protect us from ourselves.

The next public-health war will be against obesity. Are you prepared for the government to be this involved in your life? Cf. www.ucl.ac.uk/hbrc/tobacco/pubs/What%20lessons_85.pdf. People die for a variety of reasons, often lifestyle related. Do people have the right to parachute, ski, climb mountains, travel to Mexico, work in a convenience store in a bad part of town, have babies, drive a car? Death is never an attractive event, but people make choices that expose them to the risk of dying in one way or another. Government policies based on fear are not a healthy precedent for a free society.
