I only have a few cigars on the weekends. I like to at a bar. It’s not as fun at home.
Many these days are thinking that second hand smoke is like lethal. Because it hurts someone else.
You can hurt others too.
So, in a bar, everyone says alcohol poses no risk to others. Isn’t there a risk of damaging your liver from alcohol. Can’t you get drunk and get into a wrek? Isn’t there a risk of becoming an alcoholic? What about the parents that drink with young kids?
Think God the politics like alcohol. Otherwise, they would try to ban that too.
Everyone says it stinks and there is a risk of lung cancer.
Okay- That’s fine and it’s up to a person’s belief.
If you think there is a risk, don’t go.
Is there anyone telling you to go to the bar that allows smoking????
Why ban smoking in bars???????? It’s a bar, not a family restaruant. Not a daycare center.
When you are in a bar. You have to be 21. Your not a kid anymore. Why get government involved then?
Don’t light the grill outside either.
Don’t be around a campfire either if you are worried about smoke.
Don’t live in a city. You know, the towns that have car exhaust trapped in during hot summer days.
I like alcohol and drink it during the weekends.
You anti-smoking people that get flat drunk need to think about this.
What about your judgement around others? What would happen if you had to make an important decision? while drinking.
What would happen if you were too drunk to help someone?
Ya, smoking only hurts you and others?
Get an f’n life.

End stage Pulmonary Emphysema/ Chronic COPD is characterized differently from one facility to another. But some signs you will see are a barrel chest. Take a look at your their chest it will seem just like that shape or similar to a box. Their airways have little air sacs at the base of her lungs. At this point her luns have lost the elasticity and air has leaked out of the sacs into his/her chest wall unable to be exhaled. That is what is causing the barrel chest.
Their fingertips might seem large or bloated. Rounded off from the cuticle to the tip.
They will have low oxygen levels in her blood but thats whats helping them breathe and HE/SHE WILL, in end stage COPD/Emphysema and any stage of typical COPD, look like he/she has a blue tint to her skin.
**Theywill have high PCo2 levels in her blood because of the air trapping.

If youre ever with them in the hospital and he/she is awake, alert, responsive make sure your monitor how much Oxygen he/she is on. typically 2-4LPM on a Nasal Cannula is adequate but in advanced patients can be higher and provided via a VentiMask or even NonReBreather Mask. As long as his/herOxygen level in her blood(SPO2) doesnt go above 93% MAX!!! A simple handheld monitor can quickly and painlessly assess her SPO2. Keep a very close eye because unfortunately some Nurses arent aware of this and will raise it higher which can slow her breathing and will eventually stop.

my husband had pneumonia in june – the dr found a mass in the upper right lung lobe – after 3 ct scans, bronicascope, needle biopsy and pet scan they still don’t have any sure cancer diagnosis – the lung dr sent us to surgeon – they said all test show abnormal cells – my husband is a smoker, has been on inhalers of albuterol for over 40 years – apetite good, all vitals good, what should we do about an open biopsy and or surgery to remove mass?

There is no right or wrong decision in this situation – you will only know the best answer after either procedures is done. It would be best to talk to the surgeon about the difference in the risks from an open biopsy and removing the mass. Removal risks depend on the size and location of the mass. If the risks of the biopsy and removal are in the same ballpark, then it makes sense to remove the mass. If removal is a high risk surgery, then, it might be better to have the biopsy and then make a decision about removal.

My sister have some kind of virus (I forgot the name) in her stomach, and that likely can turn into cancer if not treated. The doctor have been giving her medicine which cause her lungs damage. She have been very ill lately. So either ways, it’s very hard for her and the family. She had quit her job to stay home and was not allow to be working. For me, as a lilttle sis I wanna take good care of her, watch over her, and her eating health. Another thing is, I’m an Asian that just moved back in the state, I’m so not use to the food ingredients here, so it’s very hard for me to cook something good/healthy for her. Any idea, guys? and if you know any good infomation please let me know. I appreciate all the caring heart and help. Have a good one.

I can’t see any non-users supporting legalization so it’s just the stoners who want it legal so they can get away with destroying their health and polluting society. do you read the bible?
if so how do you feel about what the apostle paul wrote about cleansing ourselves of all defilement of flesh and spirit?
the fact that countless people that were born free from diseases like lung and throat cancer until they started smoking, obviously proves without doubt that smoking defiles the flesh…in fact it destroys it.
therefore can it be right that smoking continues to be legal in nations that are meant to be christian?
also the fact that the bible says that god is love and that all scripture is inspired of god, including the commandment to cleanse ourselves of all defilement of flesh and spirit, means that god wants us to take care of the bodies he has given us.
after-all why would god take the time to create the human body and all its parts, only for us to then start abusing it to the point where our bodies can no longer function due to the abuse from its owners?
I believe that our governments have misused their authority by permitting people to use tobacco as a means of making a living which has then encouraged people to take up this unnatural and death dealing habit.
the permittance of smoking may have made our nations richer and bring in billions each year in tax revenue for our governments, but the downside to that is that it has caused millions of people to die before their time, and to die from diseases they otherwise would not have died from.
also is the selling of tobacco the right thing to do?
I think most people would agree that choosing to survive by stealing from our neighbors is wrong right?
in fact yesterday it was reported on the news that a woman who was mugged by two teenagers had her husbands ashes stolen, and the relative of the dead woman( yes she died as a result of the injuries inflicted on her by the thieves) made an emotional plea to the thieves to return the ashes because obviously it has more value to her than to the persons who stole it.
now how many of you would say that it is acceptable to steal from our neighbors even if it causes them to die in the process?
well if you think that would be unquestionably wrong, then how much wrong is it to survive by selling tobacco to our fellow humans knowing full well that it will do them harm…and perhaps causing them to die from lung or throat cancer?
and remember that you live in a country that claims to be christian, are we not obliged to live by the teachings of jesus?
for example, imagine if everyone regardless of who they have faith in, decided to live by the commandment of jesus to love our neighbor as ourselves, don’t you think it would make a huge difference in human societies?
also do you think that god is satisfied with the way we honour him and his son jesus by eating turkey and buying presents on december 25th regardless of the fact that the bible does not say what day jesus was born on, neither did he or god command his worshippers to invent ‘christmas’
also even while we are supposedly honoring god and jesus, shopkeepers continue to sell pack after pack of tobacco.
and yet if we are truly christians we are obliged to love our neighbor ( its not loving our neighbor by causing them to stumble fatally so that we can survive)
I am left in no doubt that smoking has no place in a Christian or muslim nation…but what do you Think?

I will try to keep this short. All of my questions I have posted so far have to do with my parents dying it seems. My dad died Oct. 3, two weeks later my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 non small cell lung cancer. It has a 20% chance of being able to make it go into remission. As soon as I heard the news I quit my job, left my boyfriend and our home and went to stay with her 200 miles away from my home. I do have an older brother, and an older sister. Since this has happened she has had a diabetic ulcer that has caused her to have an infection in her foot. The doctors have removed two of her toes, this has become infected, she has had two more surgeries on her foot. She has most recently been in ICU with diabetic ketone acidosis, brought on by a newly dianosed heart condition, and they want to amputate her leg so she can start chemotherapy. She decided against further treatment and wanted me to come get her out of ICU, the doctors agreed that she didn’t have to pursue treatment and she could come home. This has ALL happened since my dad died, I literally have been to every appointment, every surgery, I have held her while she’s cried, fed her every meal, took her blood sugars, gave her insulin and medication, bathed her, helped her to the restroom everytime she’s had to go since October. Last night (2 days after coming home from the hospital) she flipped out on me. She said horrible things to me that I can’t stop thinking of: she said that I was putting on a show so people would think I was a good daughter, but she knows the truth. She told me F*** YOU! I started to cry and she told me I was a little two year old baby(I’m 30), I told her to stop, to please calm down, that I loved her. She threatened to call the police on me, she threw things at me and much more. I know your wondering what must have started this ( I am too) she started by complaining about christmas decorations not being put up, I said that I had been kind of busy being at the hospital and it went on from there.
I got in my car and drove two hundred miles to my home. I called my brother and my sister and told them she was alone. I called my mom and told her I loved her today, that I was sorry that she was so upset, she was very flat sounding, not nice, not mean. I love her so much, and the pain from my dad’s death is still so fresh for both of us. I feel so lost and hopeless. Any advice? just so you know I do not think the cancer is in her brain (a couple of my friends asked that)

If people have health problems such as diabetes or other health issues caused by their own actions should the employer really have to pay for them to fix it? I
If for example someone got diabetes because they habitually over eat and refuse to exercise should the consequences of their actions be passed on financially to their employer?
I’m not talking about accidents or problems caused in direct relation to work such as lung problems caused by coal mining.
It seems unfair and presumptuous to assume that the company should pay the insurance for someone else’s negligence.
Won’t the increase demand on employers lead to health discrimination (not hiring someone because they are overweight or smoke)?
Is this happening now?

Yeah, I feel you. I have always believed that people should take responsibility for their own health rather than living un-healthy lifestyles and expecting the health care industry to “fix” them.
Unfortunately, in the current environment, employers and insurance companies cannot discriminate against those with self-destructive lifestyles.

Sorry for asking 3 questions but it is 5 points. Friend has copd. Oxygen level was running at 95-97. Now is 90. Uses nebulizer at home was told she could use it more than just at night. I’m concerned this could be a damaging level. My mom also had this disease her specialist did just the opposite started on oxygen first, 10 yrs. later started nebulizer. Everyone is different and this may have been protocol back then.

yes it would probably be a good idea for your friend to have an o2 tester, after the o2 levels drop under 91 they go into the red , anything over 91 is good but the higher the number the better the levels.

Therefore, they are so disgusted by others who do it that they think it should remain illegal and anyone who smokes it should be thrown in jail.

My husband and I have been together for 7 years. We have had our share of problems…Im quite sure everyone does. I know that he loves me and I love him also but He needs to grow up and stop taking me for granted thinking I will always take him back when he does wrong. He say’d he never cheated on me which is good but he loves money and Marijuana and he let that come between us meaning he has to always buy it smoke it sell it and if he don’t he gets all depressed and angry. He gets all emotional and upset at everything. I am a believer of God and I believe in forgiving, When he does little childish stuff like always broadcasting that he has weed or he wants people that looking for some know he got it that pisses me off because I am not into it and believe that you should work to earn a living and not let drug alter and rule your life. I have left him over a dozen times but took him back out of my love and not being selfish but I deserve a better life and I shouldnt have to put up with his weed issues.
He helps out much as he can and is very nice and tells me how much he cares and loves me but soon as he brings up weed it turns me off from him and I just wish he leaves it alone find a job and most of all stop smoking it soo much. I just recently made him leave because this girl texted his phone that lives across from us and we made a agreement that he would not get involved with ppl. we just moved here and before we moved we made that agreement and he broke it. He said he didnt give her his number but im like okay so how the hell did she get it so he start making up excuses that he wanted his friend to hook up with her so they can deal with the marijuana. Even if it was a innocent text, He still broke the agreement. he would call war world 3 if i had a dude texting me. In the past places we lived he would always mingle with the neighbors and crap like that involving weed so I would get fed up with him and make him leave.
Anyways I am tired of giving chances to get walked all over and I am also confused as to if i am doing the right thing being that i married him and I knew better but when we first met he promised that he would stop and he did but broke that promised so i feel like since i married him i am stuck with him because of my religion. Bad part about it is he just got saved the other day so I have been really pissed at him because he claims hes saved but he keep living an illegal life, not trying to change. I swear sometime I be wanting to have him locked up so he can get rehab. He is 28 and I will be 25 this Monday. he always try to make his grandmas believe he is innocent and does no wrong so they wont look at him as a failure but he is not fooling me.
When i do leave him for a while he would come to my place and stalk me…knock on the windows..yell at the top of his lungs saying he loves me and wants me to open door. it even got to the point that he would climb through my window or call my phone none stop. He would not even give me a little break away from him. I don’t know what to do anymore and every year it gets worst because he always say he will change but don’t. He says and do lil things to satisfy me just for the moment. I did alot of things to him out of anger for him hurting and letting me down but he still won’t let me go. He acts as if everything is okay as if we never argued. He is a scorpio too so I know they dont believe or comprehend on someone breaking it off with them. I am cancer and I am very sensitive and loyal but I cant take this no longer, I know it doesnt matter about zodiac signs but Scorpios are very dangerous. Please no mean nasty comments I am here seeking wise advice and I am serious about this so please give me your advice on what to do if you were in my shoes. Thank you all!

First, it is very bad if he doesn’t stop selling the marijuana. He’s risking going to jail and many worse things.
Second, don’t use horoscopes, they are always wrong.
He needs to grow up. You need to move on if he doesn’t. Or there are problems inside his mind that he has to overcome. You can help him overcome. He is smoking/selling to cover underlying psychological problems. He has to overcome that, with or without you.

The Canadian lung assoc. studies ,clearly show an association between inhalation of carcinogen’s(highly prevalent in diesel fuel,its fumes and combustion) with cancer,especially of the lungs and liver.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the “painted” rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. March 11th – seen for a mild ear infection prob due to swimming. Given Amoxicillin for 10 days
March 21st- I take the last amoxicillin and that night run a 101 fever.
March 25th – I see a doctor and am given the speech that 80% of these respiratory/sinus things are viral so lets just rest and hydrate(she did detect a wheeze and witnessed the 101fever.)
March 27th – I see my primary doctor and I knew I was running a fever but I didn’t realize it was a 104 fever! I ran the first red light ever that day and I think it was because I was so disoriented. Just thankful no one was hurt. My doc gave me a penicillin shot and a z pac.. The entire time I am on the z pac I am running 103-104 fevers even with regular tylenol and Ibuprofen. I can’t eat and have lost 22 pounds (I am still over 200 so I can stand to lose some weight but not like this…)
March 31st- Took last of the z-pac 8pm.I am awakened being shaken and my fever is 104.5. I am completely disorriented and am basically ordered into a cool shower by my neighbor who may have saved my life. She drives me to the E.R. where I discover I have Pneumonia on my left lung. I am prescribed ANOTHER z pac. The high fevers do subside around the 3rd day but 101-102 fevers are still occurring. I had been told to follow up with my primary are doc that week but it just wasn’t feasible as she had few hours due to the upcoming holidays. So April 6I go to urgent care. Fevers are basically low grade from this point out (100.6 100.8 etc) but I still am wanting to sleep around the clock and a doctor comes out (he may have been a P.A.) and says this is really bad. You have pneumonia in both lungs you need to go to the E.R. So after waiting 2 hours in urgent care I wait 2 hours in the E.R. They take their own x-ray and confirm the diagnosis. I was originally told I would be admitted and they were waiting on a bed. They give me two breathing treatments, a couple hours on oxygen, saline, and a respiratory IV drug plus levaquin. I went home with a prescription for levaquin and Phenergan. They said I looked too good to be admitted. I was ORDERED to come back Sunday morning for a repeat chest x-ray. I started coughing up blood in the shower Saturday night. I had been told to come in sooner if I had worsening symptoms. My chest did hurt worse! So I come in and was completely disrespected. Weren’t you just here yesterday, your lungs sound really good, I wouldn’t want that extra radiation with your cancer history etc(been cancer free for nearly 2 years and I get x rays and cts frequently to make sure it isn’t back…duh!) I said the doctor told me to come back for another x ray and she said snidely well that’s up to the doctor. I was wheeled back to the xray room. Told to go back to the waiting room and then a NURSE brings me discharge papers and says to keep up what I am doing, it is only in the left upper lobe now. I look down and it says Viral pneumonia upper left lobe. I asked her how did it turn from bacterial to viral overnight? She blushes and says I think I made a typo but it doesn’t matter just keep doing what you are doing. I still don’t understand how pneumonia in my right lung just vanished in less than 24 hours. So… the fevers are on the rise again (just broke 101.8) so I go back to my primary dr yesterday and she wanted to culture the junk in my chest. IDK if the specimen was good enough as I wasn’t able to cough up much. So now when I cough I usually vomit. They refuse to admit me, so I guess I just wait and pop the levaquin and tylenol until someone calls me. What would you do? I have been EVERYWHERE my insurance is covered and no one will recognize how much pain I’m in or how scared I am. My primary care doc is doing her best but this is still frightening.
don’t know if this matters but none of my family is sick so I don’t think I am extremely contagious. (knock on wood)

Did anyone take blood cultures to make sure you aren’t septic? Also, do you have some type of auto immune problem that may prevent you from fighting the infection?

My fiancee and I wanted a fall 2010 wedding; however now we are starting to rethink this date because my mother is very ill. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in December 08 and she went through chemo and radiation, but the cancer is incurable. I remember how weak and sick she was going through chemo and radiation and my worst fear is that she would be too sick to attend our 2010 wedding or she may pass before then. My fiancee and I were thinking of an alternative date in December 2009 (although not ideal) because now is the time that my mom would be able to enjoy herself and partake in the special moment while she is still strong. Also, everyone would be home for Christmas too, including my twin brother who could marry us. I mean, who knows what next year will bring? This is all very stressful for me because we weren’t even thinking about being married so soon and we have nothing planned.
What should we do?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would move it up, your mom would see it and everyone would be there, it would be great to have everyone there and good memories of your mother, even if its not the best, who cares? Its all about family:)

My dad has been coughing blood the last week so we went to the doctor and got an x-ray of his chest. There’s a big black dot and the doctors assume it is lung cancer even though they will still have to make a biopsy of it. I’m so scared. I know I won’t be able to do something myself so my question is worthless but is it possible to overcome lung cancer? Please help me. Even some reassuring words will do.

As a show of support for a family member who is going through breast cancer treatment, some of the other family members (My wife, daughter and niece) are discussing geting a small pink ribbon tattoo as show of support. How about for me? I have no tattoos right now but I have donated to the Komen Breast Cancer foundation for years, walked/run in the race for the cure multiple times and have a family history of cancer. With genetics the way they are, my wife and daughter are probable canidates to be affected by breast cancer. My daughter kinda gave me a look when I said that I wanted to participate, like maybe it should be a girl thing. What do you think? Maybe right back of shoulder?

i wouldn’t that stays on you your whole life and unless your really for the whole breast cancer thing i wouldn’t do it
