From a Christian’s perspective. Suppose someone unintentionally harms another or themselves, would this be considered a sin? I’ll give a few situations
Situation One
Due to the mistake of a worker, the nuclear powerplant experiences a reactor meltdown. Would this be a sin.
Situation Two
A man is looking for a house for his family. He has enough money to purchase a house in a safe neighborhood in concordance with the safety regulations for buildings but instead purchaces a smaller, cheaper house for a third of the price of the first house in a neighborhood with a high crime rate and a house contaminated with mold and asbestos. Would this be sinful? He had no intentions of harming himself or his family.
Situation 3
A man ends up getting involved in organized crime, he commits no technical crimes before this and is told to murder a specific person lest he and his family be murdered. He does not commit the murder and he is killed and his family is as well. Is this sinful?
Would these situations be considered sinful and are sins dependent or independent upon intentions?
In the first situation radioactive isotopes are then present in the environment causing health complications and death to many of the local residents.
Suppose in situation 3 the man had no clue the organization was criminal. Also suppose that he did but he tried to stop working for them but couldn’t do the same threats of his life and his family’s.

Sin is independent upon intentions. I got an abortion when I was younger. I never knew it was sinful (thou shall not kill) until later. I figure if it was legal, there was nothing wrong with it. Boy, was I wrong!

Living the American dream, purchased new construction home in December 2007 for 0000. During walk through, builder was asked about debris in back yard and he stated it was just “leftover construction materials. Odds and ends common on any job site.” Each time it rains, more debris is unearthed. We have glass, tiles that test positive for ASBESTOS and who knows what else…..
