Q&A: Wheezing during sinus infection.?

Question by : Wheezing during sinus infection.?
Hey all, it seems I have contracted a sinus infection as I have all the classic symptoms:

Constant Running Nose
Coughing Up/Blowing Out Yellow Phlegm (no blood)
Slight Fever
Voice Almost Gone
Now Developing A Cough

However while I was resting I noticed that I would get a wheezing sounds and sensation coming from what felt like my right lung whenever I would breath in deeply. This seem to have started today when I started to get this cough. It doesn’t seem to happen as often when I’m sitting upright but rather when I lie down. I do not have any shortness of breath or any other severe symptom and the only side effect that occasionally happens when I feel it is I’ll cough. Again, this only happens if I kind of quickly breath in deeply but doesn’t occur when I breath normally. I know I can obviously stop breathing in deeply but I was just wondering if this is a normal side effect of a respiratory infection.

Oh I should probably also note I have no history of asthma and do not have any trouble breathing.

Thanks and take care.

Sometimes the drainage of the sinuses in the back of your throat and down your bronchial tubes can cause your throat to be sore and your bronchial tubes to be inflamed (bronchitis.)

You could have a pneumonia. It would be best to have a doctor examine you.

Can a sinus infection lead to a cough and cold in the lungs?

lung infection symptoms
by Microbe World

Question by : Can a sinus infection lead to a cough and cold in the lungs?
I started with pain on my right side along my nose and under my eye into my ear. That side was very stuffy and my ear started to hurt. Two days later it also went to my left side the same symptoms and now two days later I have a sore throat and cough and a wheeze in my lungs. I still have the pain in my sinuses and my ears. My ears also seem to have pressure like the hearing is muffled. I went to the doctor she said my ear was pink but that I just had a cold. I looked up the difference between a cold and sinus infection and I think I have the symptoms of a sinus infection but now I feel worse. Im just wondering if this is just the result of a sinus infection not being treated.

Answer by Nash
Short answer: Yes

Long answer:
Yes, I am experiencing exactly that right now. One day I had a < > headache one day and just felt out of it, then I woke up the next day with my sinuses all out of whack and my head completely clogged (ears included). After a couple of days of that I started coughing stuff up like I was getting bronchitis. And so I went to the doc to make sure I didn’t have something insane like ebola, and he told me that it did, in fact, all start with a sinus infection — the post nasal drip and sniffling sent the infection right to my bronchial tubes and gave me an upper respiratory infection…

When it was in full force I felt pretty much like I was dying — like a terrible flu just took out all my energy, my body ached, and I wanted to sleep but I just felt too awful. In my unprofessional opinion, if it doesn’t start getting better on its own then you should try to get some antibiotics — my reasoning is simply because respiratory infections are able to progress to pneumonia if left unchecked.

I hope this helps. I didn’t get prescribed antibiotics because I’m starting to get over it on my own, but the doc said that if it gets worse to see him again and he’d get me on Doxycycline.

Any doctors or medical students?? I’ve had a cold for over 2 months and is this typical of a sinus infection?

Question by Miranda: Any doctors or medical students?? I’ve had a cold for over 2 months and is this typical of a sinus infection?
Hello, I’ve had sinus infection/cold-like symptoms for about two months, and I am not getting better. For the first two or so weeks, I assumed I had a cold, and then got better, and got another cold. My mom thinks it’s my allergies, but I have never had allergy symptoms like this in my life other than hay fever in the spring. This is like a super-cold, I feel so lethargic and my nose keeps running and I just feel rotten. I am allergic to cats and dust (I have 3 cats) but I take 2 antihistamines daily and it has never been much of an issue unless i sleep with them in my face or something then it might irritate my breathing because I have asthma, but why would it just start giving me horrible symptoms at random NOW? It goes away for about 3-6 days, and then at random I will be sniffling and sneezing and totally miserable within like 30 minutes I’ll go from being completely fine to full-blown cold. Then it lasts for about 4-5 days and I’m fine again. This cycle has been repeated about 5 times. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me antibiotics (Sulfamethoxazole) for a sinus infection, which is what he said it sounds like I have. I haven’t been sleeping well at all, my nose is so irritated and I can’t stop sniffling all night my nose stays completely plugged. So of course every morning I wake up with a horribly raw throat from breating through my mouth while I’m asleep. To top it off, I got my two upper wisdom teeth pulled this morning. I canceled my original appointment for one week ago because my symptoms had come back in full the night before my appointment, and the same thing happened last night before my wisdom teeth appointment this morning, but I went. The oral surgeon made me use Afrin in my nose before we started so I’d be able to breathe through my nose better, but I feel way worse than before I had my teeth removed. It could be a coincidence and my symptoms are just escalating like they always do, but hat nose spray irritated my nose very badly. My eyes are red and I feel so icky. What is this?! Is it a really bad sinus infection, a remarkably long series of colds, or WHAT! How do I get better?? I’m so stressed because I feel so awful while my symptoms attack, and I can’t get any rest because it’s so hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. I’m prescribed percocet for my teeth (or lack there of)–will those help my sleep at all? But seriously, what is with this never-ending cold??! I’ve been taking vitamin C and a multivitamin and drinking a lot of liquids (water and cranberry juice) as well as Mucinex to try and clear out my sinuses and lungs. What else can I do????

Answer by Tony M
This actually sounds like something serious. The first thing that comes to mind is Epstein Barr virus, the same virus that causes “mono.” This should go away on its own but you need to have some routine blood work done to rule out other more serious things, like certain types of blood disorders such as leukemia or aplastic anemia. Tell your doctor that you want a CBC with a differential performed and you want your blood tested for “heterophil antibodies.” In addition tell him you want a monospot test.

If your doctor continues to act like a jacka$ s and dismisses you, tell him you want a referral to an infectious disease specialist.

Q&A: Wisdom teeth causing sinus problems?!HELP PLEASE!?

Question by : Wisdom teeth causing sinus problems?!HELP PLEASE!?
ok so im 18 and im pretty sure my wisdom teeth are trying to come in. About 3 months ago i started getting reoccurring upper respiratory infections, would go to dr. get z-pack but came back 3 times. then developed bronchitis about 2 months ago that is cleared up now but still have shortness of breath that is pretty much constant. i have been to e.r. several times also been to a pulmonary specialist was very afraid i had some serious lung disease, however after several tests and x-rays in the e.r. and a pulmonary function test pulmonologist said im fine just have mild asthma but ordered a cat skan for monday just to be 100% sure my lungs are ok. i have noticed though that i have a LOt of post nasal drip, and my throat is more often then not sore and red. a couple weeks ago i noticed the skin in the back of my mouth(behind back teeth) becoming inflammed/raised and like the top have little white patch’s. well now last night i started having slight pain in the back of my mouth and developed a sore(which i cannot see) but it is far back on top on the outside of my gum, also area is very tender when i touch it and have slight pain almost like a stiff pain when i open my mouth far. now i have read that impacted wisdom teeth can cause sinus problems and allergies which i have also been having lately, is it possible that my wisdom teeth could be causing these problems?

Hello,..Ahhhhh, tell you what Bunky, the possibility that what you have experienced health wise is due to wisdom teeth is in my estimation “ZERO”…If your Dentist x-rayed your wisdom teeth and found either of the Upper ones were abscessed, then you could possibly have reason to believe there was a connection between the abscess and your sinus issues….If you have had a complete dental and medical check up and no correlation was found, let me suggest that you see a Neurologist for a check up. Good luck and I wish you well.

CONSTANT INFECTIONS, Throat, lung, sinus, uterus Please, help if you know anything?

Question by : CONSTANT INFECTIONS, Throat, lung, sinus, uterus Please, help if you know anything?
I’m in tears. I am desperate for an answer because I know normal people don’t go through what I do. I’m 32. I’ve been suffering from unusual and cruel intense infections for at least a decade and a half. It goes like this; Everyone gets a cold. I get bronchitis then pneumonia if I don’t go on STRONG sometimes INTRAVENOUS antibiotics within often days of acquiring illness that everyone else recovers from. Repeat scenareo with a dozen extremely severe strep throat bouts that get me to 104.5 fever within 2 days, or less, and now sinus infections. I have had my tonsils removed, then it moved to my sinuses. I have also near died 3x by near bleeding to death after two miscarriages and then the birth of my only son- a miracle baby that had complications. (so did I.) I have been tested several times, recently and repeatedly through the years for mono, HIV/AIDS, white blood cell count, all that. I eat decent. I am reasonably active. When all my friends were experiencing young life and going to college I spent it battling severe infections. I have been battling a horrible sinus infection since June (6 months) recently and I’m also bleeding from the uterus now for 2 months. I have been on 5? rounds of antibiotics, one for 3 weeks. It just comes back. Now I have the sinus infection and a bronchial infection coming on. I know because I’ve been through it 100 times. I’ve now missed over a week of work and had an on and off fever for 6 weeks. Please, help. Dr’s are puzzled. I’m adopted so I don’t know my family history. I take a fantastic multivitamin- a prenatal. I take vitamin c. I am not allergic to anything, I’ve been tested. I’ve also had several “undiagnosed” weird issues like very strange ovarian cysts that resolved themselves, and both my hips I cannot lie on at night as my legs fall asleep- even when I’m not heavy. The latter is a typical condition of an elderly male, and is super rare on both sides. I’ve also had double carpal tunnel surgery. Please help, do you know anyone like this? Many drs, especially my recent gyno suspects a systematic issue. I have seen an infectious disease dr with no results recently. My throat and glands are constantly swollen as I’m always feeling sick and fighting something. When I travel, I almost always end up in the hospital with a horrible infection of the lungs, throat or sinus within a couple days, making me trapped in my home. Please… help
the hospital dosen’t take me seriously unless I’m spiking a horrible fever. The issue is that it keeps coming back, all of it, over and over and over, severe- for years. I have seen my primary 2x in the last week.

Could it be a second round of bronchitis, allergies, or sinus infection?

Question by SCUZE-ME: Could it be a second round of bronchitis, allergies, or sinus infection?
I do not have a headache, my face is not tender, but I have a lot of drainage down the back of my throat, I’m stopped up, and I have a productive cough. I can feel the mucus moving around in my lungs when I breath deep.

I had bronchitis about a month ago, took anitbiotics, felt better for two weeks but am now having the same symptoms. Could this be a second round of bronchitis, allergies, or a sinus infection?

How is Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Performed?

www.NoseSinus.com. Dr Kevin Soh explains endoscopic sinus surgery using an example from a real case. Understand the different stages of the operation as seen during live surgery.

Second-hand smoke exposure appears to be an important contributor to the development of chronic sinusitis, according to research published in the Archives of OtolaryngologyHead & Neck Surgery. Here is some information about chronic sinusitis: • It is a condition in which the spaces around the nasal passages, known as sinuses, become inflamed and swollen, interfering with mucous drainage • Sinusitis that lasts more than eight weeks or keeps coming back is known as chronic sinusitis • Causes include infection, growths in the sinuses known as nasal polyps, and a deviated septum Researchers from Brock University in St. Catharines compared the five-year history of exposure to second-hand smoke between over 300 nonsmokers with chronic sinusitis and over 300 nonsmokers who did not have the condition. The two groups were matched with respect to age, sex, and race/ethnicity. The individuals with chronic sinusitis were more likely to report having been exposed to second-hand smoke at home, in the workplace, in public places, and at private functions outside the home than those without the condition. In fact, a history of exposure to second-hand smoke either at work or at private functions more than doubled the likelihood of having chronic sinusitis, even after taking into account factors such as exposure to air pollution or chemicals that can irritate the nasal passages. The more locations exposure to second-hand smoke occurred, the greater the likelihood of having chronic

Sinus Problems – Do I Have Sinus Infection Symptoms Or Acid Reflux (GERD) Or Both? Nurse’s Guide

Sinus Problems – Do I Have Sinus Infection Symptoms Or Acid Reflux (GERD) Or Both? Nurse’s Guide

Article by Helen Hecker

Oftentimes I realize when people suffer from GERD (gastroesophagel reflux disease) or simply acid reflux they may not be aware of it and think they’re suffering from sinusitis or even a sinus infection because the symptoms can mimic each other. You may find yourself chronically congested from one or the other or both as I have found among many sufferers.

GERD or acid reflux can develop because of the valve that is on the end of the esophagus where it meets the stomach. This valve may get weakened or stop functioning properly and allow stomach acids and contents to go up the esophagus and cause symptoms that you may think are sinus symptoms or you may think they’re GERD symptoms and they may be one or the other or both conditions.

You may feel symptoms such as heartburn, which is often silent, and some thick phlegm in your throat, which may cause you to clear your throat often.

This constant assault on your esophagus can cause an inflammation of the esophagus. Of course you want to try to figure out if you’re suffering from acid reflux or from sinus problems like chronic sinusitis or sinus infections or both so that you can treat it naturally at home without drugs or medications.

These symptoms can be worse at night because stomach acid tends to back up more so at night. Also if you have a regular or acute or chronic sinus problem you should prop yourself up on wedges and pillows at night as part of your prevention, so that infected material doesn’t go down into your bronchial tubes or lungs. You don’t want to complicate it by getting bronchitis or pneumonia. If you have sinus infections you’ll have some of the symptoms below.

These are some of the symptoms that may be either acid reflux disease or GERD or sinusitis or other sinus problems: a slightly sore throat or even just a tickle or so, a strange taste in your mouth on occasion that may be hard to describe but may be sour, bitter or foul, voice problems including raspiness or hoarseness or similar, could be in the morning or as the day goes by, a cough – could be just slight occasionally or chronic, clearing of the throat or actually feel a lump or phlegm in the throat. Also you may regurgitate a little food or liquid or your tongue or mouth may feel like it’s burning at times. Sinus infection phlegm or mucus can be very irritating.

So you may know you have GERD or know you have sinus problems such as sinus infections but may not know you have both because the symptoms can be confusing. So getting a better understanding of your sinuses and acid reflux(GERD) so that you can help yourself with natural treatments at home without drugs once you know what’s going on is a good place to start I’ve found.

How can you tell if a cough is due to lung congestion or just sinus drainage?

Question by forthelackofoxygen: How can you tell if a cough is due to lung congestion or just sinus drainage?
I’ve been sick since the third week of January. I had bronchitis, but got over that. I’ve had two sinus infections, double conjunctivitis, nausea, and double ear infections since.

I got better from the first sinus infection, but this second one is lingering and I keep adding symptoms, like the conjunctivitis.

Today, I really started coughing again. I think it’s from my lungs, but I don’t want to go to the doctor and have them tell me it’s just drainage.

How can you tell the difference?

Best answer:

Answer by Jamie N
well sinus drip, your bring up mucus, also when you lay down you may feel it dripping down the back of your throat..if it is from your lungs your chest will hurt, and possibly your ribs..and you will feel the cough down much lower than you would with sinus drip..try taking a benadryl, if you get temporary relief then you know it’s sinuses

Sinus Infection Symptoms – 5 Ways To Tell If You Have a Sinus Infection – Nurse’s Tips!

Article by Helen Hecker

Do you think you’re having some sinus infection symptoms now? Or if you aren’t sure if your symptoms are related to your sinuses, there are a few ways you can tell if they are. You may be in the beginning stages of sinusitis or a sinus infection or have had one developing for awhile.

These are some of the ways you can tell.

1. Yellowish discharge. Do you have some nasal discharge or feel some discharge in the back of your throat? Check it closely and see if it has a yellowish tinge. If it’s yellow you can be almost certain you have a sinus infection going on. If the discharge is not yellow you may be in the early stages of sinusitis and you can stop it easier now before it gets into a full-blown sinus infection.

2. Sinus headache. In the past, I don’t think sinus headaches were recognized as much as they should have been. It seems they were not recognized as such. Many people have suffered with headaches that were labeled tension headaches or migraines. A sinus headache can be one-sided on the top of the head, or across the forehead, for example.

A sinus headache may be harder to turn around if you don’t catch it just as it’s starting up. The body goes into an automatic mode where it’s harder to break the cycle. So if you suspect it might be your sinuses take some quick action. Try nasal irrigation for a sinus headache cure or to get sinus relief.

3. A stuffed up nose. A stuffed up nose or sinus congestion can be from a sinus blockage – a back up behind the nose in the sinus cavities. When the sinuses get blocked by dried up mucous, the one quart of mucous that moves through the sinuses each day gets backed up, causing a lot of pressure and possibly headache. Taking any medication as a sinus treatment, that dries up mucous, such as antihistamines, will harden it even more.

4. Irritated throat. If you notice a slightly sore throat it may be from the sinus discharge draining down your throat. You can try gargling with some warm water (about 8 oz.) with a half teaspoon of salt. If this clears you in half an hour or so then you don’t have a sore throat but just irritation from the sinus drainage.

5. Slight coughing off and on. If you find you’re coughing here and there throughout the day, you may have sinus drainage leaking down your throat and irritating your cough reflex. The coughing is to clear your throat and not in your lungs at this point.

Often suffering with these and other sinus infection symptoms can be thought to be a cold coming on. This is many times not the case. The symptoms are confused very often with cold symptoms. You can do something about it. There are great home remedy sinus cures today that are completely natural. Sinus sufferers no longer need to suffer as was not the case in the old days, nor have routine sinus surgery. There are some good natural ways to get rid of sinus problems forever.

Some Eye Popping Remedies For Sinus Infection

www.sinusitisreliefsecrets.com A wide variety of remedies for sinus infection have been put forward over the years. Some involve the use of pharmaceutical products and quite harsh drugs. In this bulletin I am only going to be concerned with either easy to obtain herbal remedies or other natural solutions. Here’s a rundown of some natural herbal Remedies for Sinus Infection: Garlic: this has natural antibiotic properties and is a natural anti– inflammatory, unfortunately it does have an unpleasant odor but it is possible to buy odorless garlic if you prefer. Garlic can also act as a really effective antioxidant. Eucalyptus or peppermint extract: when inhaled these can be very useful in clearing your sinus cavities. Horseradish: this is useful not just as one of the remedies for sinus infection but it is also beneficial in treating common colds and lung congestion. By the way, after you start using horseradish there might be a temporary increase in mucus production, but do not be concerned that this is a sign that your cold is getting worse. Sinupret: this is a supplement which contains several herbs including cowslip and according to Maryland Medical Centre it can boost your immune system and help with clearing out the sinuses. Apple cider vinegar: this contains potassium which assists in the reduction of mucus. A guideline is to drink 1/8 of a cup of Apple cider vinegar with 16 ounces of water for 3 to 5 days. Sebi ‘bubble boy’ post-transplant sinus infection

SCIDS or ‘bubbleboy’ disease symptoms usually appear in the first few months of life. Because the immune system cannot protect the baby’s body, babies with the disorder tend to get one infection after another. Some of these bacterial infections may be life-threatening, including pneumonia (lung infection), meningitis (brain infection), and sepsis (blood infection). To make matters worse, SCID patients often don’t respond to the antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections. They may suffer more frequently from ear infections, sinus infections, a chronic cough, and rashes on the skin. Early diagnosis of SCID is very important, because without quick treatment, children with the disease aren’t likely to live past age 2.

I have been having sinus and allergy like symptoms ongoing for weeks. I live in a very old house ………….

Question by SallyJ: I have been having sinus and allergy like symptoms ongoing for weeks. I live in a very old house ………….
without central heat or air. The air is run from two window units and the heat from one window unit in bedroom, and an old gas heater in the front part of the house. My house also has asbestos shingling on the outside. Also my dog is having allergy like symptoms too. Could any of these things with my house be the cause for our illness?
I go through sinus and allergy stuff at this time every year, but things have been worse since I moved into this house and it’s ongoing; it doesn’t let up. Usually I have sinus stuff for a day or two and then I feel better. This has lasted almost four weeks and now I am having symptoms like the flu.

yes very much. u may be allergic to dust or pets. just check if you have garden or flowers nearby. pollens can also make you allergic. you may have to go to doctor for allergy test. even green grass can cause allergy. and your living area may aggravate the cause of your sinus. better cure it now to prevent it from growing to asthmatic problems.

www.TMJReview.com http TMJ Symptoms or signs symptoms of TMJ can be any: Jaw pain TMJ headache TMJ ear pain or discomfort ringing in ear fullness in the ear and any pain associated with the face area. The following are the more common Signs symptoms of TMJ or TMJ Symptoms: Jaw pain: That can be pain typically in the mandible (lower jaw) and just in front of the ear (The temporomandibular joint area). People can also have jaw pain in the upper jaw (the maxilla). But that pain can sometimes be mistaken as sinus issues and vice versa. You’ll need to see your Dentist to rule out any Tumors and cysts which do occur occasionally, and to check for infection in the Jaw bone which are usually related with teeth. Clicking and/or popping: The more common clicking or popping is the meniscus or disc in the Temporomandibular Joint when it stays forward and inside of it’s regular place in the TMJ Capsule or Joint. When this happens, it is a common irregularity in the function of the joint or TMJ. Typically when someone has a slipping, clicking, or a popping disc, it is Irreversible, and will always slip out, pop, click and dislocate for the rest of your life. It is a rare case that we can cure, or recapture the disc from displacing or popping like that. Sometimes people come in to me for a TMJ exam and report TMJ Symptoms that there is a popping in the joint when it is a natural or normal popping when the individual opens their mouth wide. So, if you have a “Bump” or a popping when you
