Who thinks smoking should be banned in bars???
Question by thunderbomb90: Who thinks smoking should be banned in bars???
I only have a few cigars on the weekends. I like to at a bar. It’s not as fun at home.
Many these days are thinking that second hand smoke is like lethal. Because it hurts someone else.
You can hurt others too.
So, in a bar, everyone says alcohol poses no risk to others. Isn’t there a risk of damaging your liver from alcohol. Can’t you get drunk and get into a wrek? Isn’t there a risk of becoming an alcoholic? What about the parents that drink with young kids?
Think God the politics like alcohol. Otherwise, they would try to ban that too.
Everyone says it stinks and there is a risk of lung cancer.
Okay- That’s fine and it’s up to a person’s belief.
If you think there is a risk, don’t go.
Is there anyone telling you to go to the bar that allows smoking????
Why ban smoking in bars???????? It’s a bar, not a family restaruant. Not a daycare center.
When you are in a bar. You have to be 21. Your not a kid anymore. Why get government involved then?
Don’t light the grill outside either.
Don’t be around a campfire either if you are worried about smoke.
Don’t live in a city. You know, the towns that have car exhaust trapped in during hot summer days.
I like alcohol and drink it during the weekends.
You anti-smoking people that get flat drunk need to think about this.
What about your judgement around others? What would happen if you had to make an important decision? while drinking.
What would happen if you were too drunk to help someone?
Ya, smoking only hurts you and others?
Get an f’n life.

Can Smoking marijuana or being over wieght cause COPD?
Question by Candace :]: Can Smoking marijuana or being over wieght cause COPD?
Or does only smoking cigarrettes, pollution, dust, or chemicals the only thing that causes it?
Best answer:
Answer by kittyfreek
Any kind of smoking will make COPD worse. Marijuana when smoked – contrary to many (pot smokers’) beliefs irritates and damages the lungs just as much as cigarettes or sticking your head over a bonfire.
Being overweight puts more pressure on the lungs too because, to put it simply, excess body fat (both internal and external) can compress the lungs and there is the added exertion of carrying extra weight – it’s hard enough to get oxygen around the body as it is. (Imagine having to carry an extra bag of shopping for example.)

CDC Vital Signs offers recent data on the important health topics of key diseases, conditions, or risk factors. Data is gathered from CDC’s national monitoring systems to show progress in important areas of public health, and the ways people can increase their health, prevent or control disease.
Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death, disease, and disability in the US. Each year, around 443,000 people die from smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke, and another 8.6 million suffer from a serious illness from smoking. Two new CDC reports indicate that, despite the dangers of tobacco use, about 46.6 million adults in the US smoke, and 88 million nonsmokers are exposed to secondhand smoke.

If a child’s parents smoked, how long would it take, an approximate minimum, for it to be realistic that the child developed lung cancer because of second hand smoke.
(I’m writing a novel and need to know if it is realistic that one of the characters have developed lung cancer from second hand smoking by their parents as a child)

First off make sure your con %’s are read correctly. The only science study that made second hand smoke a carcinogen was the EPA, in which it’s study got thrown out by a district judge for “cherry-picking” their data. The Lung Assoc and the Surgeon General use the EPA report solely for their claims.
when they say 20% increased risk, what they’re really saying is if you’re a nonsmoker who happens to be of the (0.5% who get lung cancer) and was exposed to a lifetime of indoor smoking, there is a 20% chance that you’re lung cancer was caused by second hand smoke.
“The studies showed that for any given nonsmoker, the lifetime risk of getting lung cancer remains small: 4 to 5 in 1000 ordinarily, and 6 to 7 in 1000 if he or she has been living with a smoking spouse.”
FOR THE PROS
It helps Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases.
It’s been known to help with psychological issues most notably ADHD.

Q&A: Why did I develop a smokers cough after I quit smoking?
Question by : Why did I develop a smokers cough after I quit smoking?
I smoked for upwards of 30 years, I recently quit cold turkey, wasn’t near as hard as I thought it was going to be by the way. However about three weeks after quitting I developed a smokers cough, or at least I’m assuming that’s what it is since I have no symptoms of a cold, the flu or a respiratory infection. I am coughing up small amounts of phlegm, it’s usually clear, sometimes a greenish white. Any Ideas why this is happening now that I’ve quit smoking. I never had a smokers cough when I was a smoker.

Question by keyboardmike: small smoking question?!?
k, well, i know smoking is bad and it causes lung cancer, i tried to find an article of help of any sort or an opinion to say that smoking is okay, apparently the whole internet is brainwashed to thinking every single person that smokes gets addicted. i have been smoking for a while now, and its only 2-3 cigarettes a week, now dont say, oh just quit its terrible, its nice to just relax and enjoy a cigarette, dont say im gonna get addicted i been doing this for a while and im not increasing my smoking habits, my real question is, if your smoking a pack or 2 max every month, it cant possibly be that bad, i know people that got addicted and smoked a pack a day, which is insane for me, thats pretty much just inhaling smoke all day long which is def not healthy, what im trying to say is, is a pack a month even bad for you? keep in mind, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, not saying a cig a day is good but, smoking every once in a while cannot be that terrible.
Best answer:
Answer by Adeeb
well smoking 2-3 a week is not bad at all in my opinion, even 2-3 a day couldn’t do much harm to your body but 2 cigarettes a day may get you addicted. One of my closest friends smokes 2 packs a day, that’s dangerous…
2 packs a month is nothing ;D

Patrick Swayze and smoking a cig with pancreatic cancer?
Question by butterfliesRfree: Patrick Swayze and smoking a cig with pancreatic cancer?
AND SO WHAT???? What difference does it make? What do you think about this? Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly cancers out there — a 6 month life as a rule after being diagnosed so he doesn’t have long to live. The fact that he’s smoking a cigarette? So what?????
My father had lung cancer and he WAS on his deathbed. He was almost gone — in and out of a coma and he sounded like he wanted something and I asked him “dad, what do you want?” and he JUST wanted a couple drags off a cigarette — it wasn’t going to kill him any faster OR sooner……
The media is taking something horrible and making it WORSE…..nothing new.
What is your opinion?

Q&A: should smoking have a place in a christian society?
Question by : should smoking have a place in a christian society?
do you read the bible?
if so how do you feel about what the apostle paul wrote about cleansing ourselves of all defilement of flesh and spirit?
the fact that countless people that were born free from diseases like lung and throat cancer until they started smoking, obviously proves without doubt that smoking defiles the flesh…in fact it destroys it.
therefore can it be right that smoking continues to be legal in nations that are meant to be christian?
also the fact that the bible says that god is love and that all scripture is inspired of god, including the commandment to cleanse ourselves of all defilement of flesh and spirit, means that god wants us to take care of the bodies he has given us.
after-all why would god take the time to create the human body and all its parts, only for us to then start abusing it to the point where our bodies can no longer function due to the abuse from its owners?
I believe that our governments have misused their authority by permitting people to use tobacco as a means of making a living which has then encouraged people to take up this unnatural and death dealing habit.
the permittance of smoking may have made our nations richer and bring in billions each year in tax revenue for our governments, but the downside to that is that it has caused millions of people to die before their time, and to die from diseases they otherwise would not have died from.
also is the selling of tobacco the right thing to do?
I think most people would agree that choosing to survive by stealing from our neighbors is wrong right?
in fact yesterday it was reported on the news that a woman who was mugged by two teenagers had her husbands ashes stolen, and the relative of the dead woman( yes she died as a result of the injuries inflicted on her by the thieves) made an emotional plea to the thieves to return the ashes because obviously it has more value to her than to the persons who stole it.
now how many of you would say that it is acceptable to steal from our neighbors even if it causes them to die in the process?
well if you think that would be unquestionably wrong, then how much wrong is it to survive by selling tobacco to our fellow humans knowing full well that it will do them harm…and perhaps causing them to die from lung or throat cancer?
and remember that you live in a country that claims to be christian, are we not obliged to live by the teachings of jesus?
for example, imagine if everyone regardless of who they have faith in, decided to live by the commandment of jesus to love our neighbor as ourselves, don’t you think it would make a huge difference in human societies?
also do you think that god is satisfied with the way we honour him and his son jesus by eating turkey and buying presents on december 25th regardless of the fact that the bible does not say what day jesus was born on, neither did he or god command his worshippers to invent ‘christmas’
also even while we are supposedly honoring god and jesus, shopkeepers continue to sell pack after pack of tobacco.
and yet if we are truly christians we are obliged to love our neighbor ( its not loving our neighbor by causing them to stumble fatally so that we can survive)
I am left in no doubt that smoking has no place in a Christian or muslim nation…but what do you Think?
please share your Thoughts.
Thanks.
oh come now…why make a joke of what is a serious problem in human societies?

The OTHER Dangers of Smoking
Everyone knows cigarettes give you lung cancer. Who cares, right? Well, these amateur documentary-makers have discovered some shocking *other* side effects. This video dares to show what you’ve never been told about cigarettes. You’ll have to watch it to believe it. It’s not just “truth”…it’s a FACT!
Non-Filter cigarette smoking!?
Question by : Non-Filter cigarette smoking!?
know cigarettes are harmful no matter what. And they are addictive and they start with one and become too many ..all this. But please answer my question transparently and truthfully. I am not trying to exploit this answer to smoke more cigarettes. In fact the truth will help me reduce/stop smoking slowly. I smoke 4 puffs of marlboro lights with filter removed (by me) one every night. I have been doing this since almost 15 years. I might have occasionally smoked 3-4 filter cigarettes a day once in a while but strictly I stick to (and I have been doing since years) one non-filter cigarette one each day. I am 45 and a very healthy person with lots of activity. I don’t drink or abuse my health otherwise. No known family history of lung cancer or any other cancer. Of late am very concerned that this occasional smoking might be doing harm to me. My wife says more than the one cigarette that you smoke (that too just 4 puffs) your apprehension would cause you more damage. What’s the truth? Is it just like that you get cancer? (Please ignore the ‘cancer could happen anytime and anyways’ kind of a chance thing). I wnt to know medically how easy or possible that you get lung cancer with the way I smoke. Aren’t 4 non filtered puffs equivalent to many filtered puffs and many cigarettes a day? I would appreciate and be satisfied with a technical answer plzzzzzzz rather than just statistical one. Sorry for the long question and thanks in advance!
Agred that I shouldnt justify. But I am in the process of leaving it altogether. But before that wanted to know some facts. Like if I smoked the full regular filtered cigarettes and more than one a day ..isnt that chemically equivalent to one unfiltered cig? In essence am trying to see if one unfiltered cigarette is more hrmful than many filtered cigarettes per day. I am eventually going to stop but meanwhile in the process didn’t want this to bother me too much (again, I am aware that any amount of smoking is bad..that’s not the question).. thanks for replying so fast.
Best answer:
Answer by gabykawa
Obviously you get more tar from a non filtered cigarette than from a filtered cigarette. It’s hard to measure the amount.
I don’t smoke anymore but I used to smoke non filtered cigarettes, even some wrapped in chala (dried corn skin). The idea of the non filtered cigarette (for me at least) is not to smoke the regular cigarettes but to smoke non chemically treated tobacco. I got mines from a friend that worked in the plantations. They kept tobacco naturally treated to sell to cigar manufacturers and local tobacco shops. Besides the concerns about chemicals, it’s non taxed tobacco. The taste (at least for me) is great. Stronger and harsher than industrial cigarettes, but it tastes like real tobacco.
I won’t tell you that they’re healthier, maybe they are in a way, because inhaling smoke can’t be healthy no matter what. But if you’re going to hell eventually, why not go in style?
If health is a concern for you, just quit. Staying in the middle, trying to make (rationalize) smoking in a way that it’s the less health damaging way, makes no sense at all.

Does government funded medical insurance cover treatments for smoking related ailments?
Question by ?: Does government funded medical insurance cover treatments for smoking related ailments?
For example, if someone has medicaid or medicare and has been diagnosed with lung cancer…would chemotherapy be covered? I am just curious because I know that the government makes a lot of money from the idiots who smoke (cuz they are so addicted they wont stop buying the damn things no matter how much taxes they have to pay on them). It seems counter productive for them to turn around and use those same tax dollars treating smokers. After all, millions die each years so the majority of the time it is money wasted. Even if they did pull through, they will probably go back to smoking and do we really want someone that stupid wasting space anyway?
I hope it isn’t covered. As a matter of fact NO insurance should cover treatment for smoking related ailments. If they are stupid enough to smoke they should pay for it totally out of pocket. They should just let them all die off. Its evolution, survival of the fittest. That way only the smarter people will go on to reproduce and hopefully eventually people will just stop (after the dumb ones kill themselves of course).
Also..why is it legal to do something that is proven to be deadly? Assisted suicide for people who are suffering is illegal but perfectly healthy people are allowed to give themselves cancer? I just don’t get it i guess.
And by the way…dont compare this to alcohol. MOST people who drink alcohol are NOT alcoholics, but MOSTLY everyone who smokes is extremely addicted. its not the same.

Answer by Flower
A lot of seniors who have lung cancer developed it early on before there were warning labels on cigarette packs, at a time when most people smoked and did not know it was addictive, let alone carcinogenic due to mass campaign by tobacco lobby to hide the truth. That has past. I wonder why kids continue to smoke these days with all the information available about smoking and how can they afford to smoke at $ 5 a pack? However, we dont discriminate in treating sick people because they did not take care of themselves. We treat the end result and doctors must treat everyone.
Remember that Medicare was paid for by payroll taxes by people who worked for 40 years and continue to pay a share of Medicare every month as well as the usual co-pays and co-insurance.
Whatever you think of subsidized programs, remember that government subsidizes industry for much more than it does people on Medicare.

Q&A: Mom wont stop smoking?
Question by : Mom wont stop smoking?
My moms been smoking ever since before i was born (im 15 now). My dad is notbin the picture as my parents divorced a few years ago. My mom smokes cigarettes. All my life i’ve been picked on in school and made fun of smelling like smoke. Kids make rude comments all the time; “why do you smell like smoke” “you smell like smoke” “you stink” “do you smoke” “why do you smell like that” etc. Etc. The list goes on. Years of comments like thse have taken a toll on my self esteem. I have no confidence anymore. Im always worrying about smelling bad. I cry all the time im so stressed about it.
I spay all of my clothes with perfume now to try and cover up the smell. And i pick my oufot out the night before and put it in our garage (the one place my mom doesnt smoke) and try to air it out. All together this takes around 30 minutes every school night, when all i want to do is go to bed. And its no use anyway, because i either smell like smoke or a cloud of perfume. Which are both strong and disgusting.
Not to menion how much of a toll this takes on my health. I HATE THE SMELL OF SMOKE!!!!!!!!! I HATE IT!!!! Everytime i breathe it in it makes me want to throw up. The smell gives me horrible headaches. Migraines. Every. Day. And i get the sensation like i cant fully fill all my lungs with oxygen. Like they arent getting enough air. I take the deepest breath i can but they wont fill up all the way. Its so frustrating.
I hate that i hav to suffer for HER mistake. SHE chose to smoke. I didnt. I know better. But no; i have to sit here and deal wth the consequences likr it was my mistake, even though i did nothing wrong.
I’ve explained all of this to her. She doesnt care. She says she’ll quit when shes ready, and she wont be ready until she gets a well paying job and her life gets on steady.
Which will be FOREVER.
I’M SO TIRED OF THIS. EVRRYTIME I SMELL SMOKE IT MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL. ITS CHRISTMAS EVE/CHRISTMAS AND GUESS WHAT MY MOM IS DOING RIGH NOW. SHES ******* SMOKNG AND I HAVE TO SIT HERE AND BREATHE IT IN. SHE DOES THIS EVERY NIGHT. I ASK HER TO GO OUTSIDE BUT SHE GETS MAD AND YELLS AT ME. IF I BRING UP HER SMOKING AT ALL SHE GETS MAD. SMELLING THIS **** MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL. IT MAKES ME WANT TO SUFFOCATE MYSELF SO I NEVER HAVE TO BREATHE IT AGAIN. EVERYDAY I CRY AND CONSIDER SUICIDE. IM ALREADY GOING TO END UP WITH LUNG CANCER ANWAY.
PLEASE HELP ME. WHAT DO I DO?!?!

There’s no point in trying to get your mother to quit or smoke outside basically. Try to make her not smoke in your room at least, so you can have one place to be smoke-free. Either that or, stupid as it may sound, you could pick up smoking, then you will love the smell and won’t mind everything smelling like smoke.
