spot on the lungs…………….?
Question by jetti: spot on the lungs…………….?
my brother’s x-ray shows there’s a spot on his right lung but the doctor said it wasnt TB.
The doctor said he still have to make another xray on other views of the lung but i think we should only have xray once a year. The doctor hasnt figure it out yet. He just prescribed cough medicine but my brother lost it.
What could this be? i just hope its notTB

Answer by J B
If your doctor was worried about this spot, he would have ordered additional tests to find out what it was. Sometimes, things appear and then go away. His doctor might order a CT scan to find out what this spot is or he could just take the watch and wait. Your brother (if he is an adult) is the one who will have to request further testing from his doctor or ask for a better explanation of the spot.

I have a spot on my left lung, what could it be?
Question by Daylon T: I have a spot on my left lung, what could it be?
I bought a house that was infested with bats!! I went to the doctor because I was having problems with a dry cough for about 2 months. They first said they were going to treat it like it was pneumonia, put me on antibiotics. They then sent me to a pulmonoligist and he put me on the antibiotics for another 10 days. He said they will do another chest xray on the 22nd and see if it went away, if it doesn’t then they may be looking at histoplasmosis. Should I be worried? I have never smoked.

I have a spot on my right lung. How concerned should I be?
Question by douglas50_1999: I have a spot on my right lung. How concerned should I be?
This spot has been there for over 20 years and has showed up on x-rays of my lungs since. My doctor told me he just wanted to take a closer look and ordered the CT scan. I didn’t get the results of it and they called and had scheduled a PET scan. I haven’t received the results of that yet. I will get the results when I see a doctor next week. How concerned should I be? I had the spot biopsied in 1989 and it was benign

Stereotactic radiation now a spot showing up on CT again?
Question by : Stereotactic radiation now a spot showing up on CT again?
In Janurary 2009, my dad underwent a pneumonectomy to remove a lung from lung cancer. He has had the best recovery you could imagine. He does manual labor daily and you would never know he had cancer. He was getting scans ever 3-6 mos to check for cancer, everything was great coming back clear til March this year. His dr saw a small spot on his spine. They watched it for 3 months and it didnt grow. The only way to check for cancer was a biopsy. He ended up getting it done and it came back cancer. Over the summer he got stereotactic radiation. It is a newer technique for very small tumors. It is only 1 day and they have a high powered beam pinpoint the exact location. He went for his 3 month follow up and had a clean scan. He went back last week and a spot was seen on the ct scan. His dr is not 100% it is cancer and said it could be inflammation but there is reason for concern. My dad is pretty positive its cancer. All blood work is perfect all other health perfect. The dr pushed on his back and asked if it hurt, he said no and the dr said its a good sign. Has anyone heard of this type of treatment? He goes to Dana Farber so I know he is receiving the best care possible. I am 23 and losing so much sleep over this
Best answer:
Answer by Moderate Somber
He is in the best hands possible and seems like they are on top of it, i.e., monitoring the slightest indication of cancer and acting accordingly. Specifically targeted radiation is the best since it prevents the good tissue from being damaged. As you already know cancer can and sometimes does return.
The targeted radiation has been in use for quite a few years now and Medicare started covering it several years back. Research goes back to more than 10 years. FDA and CMS has declared it safe and effective.
The idea is to stay on top of it and attack the problem as it surfaces. Since your dad is otherwise healthy, he will likely beat it even if it were cancer, but he should not exert himself physically too much.

Q&A: An MRI shows a 1cm spot on my mom’s right lung.?
Question by : An MRI shows a 1cm spot on my mom’s right lung.?
My mom went in for an MRI on her lower abdemon and a 1cm spot was found on her lung. They are going to do a CT to see if there are other spots, she is 80 years old, never has smoked, what are the chances this is cancerous? Thank you for any helpful input.
Best answer:
Answer by melissa
A CT will give better imaging of her lungs but chances are if there weren’t more seen in the MRI they will be very small on the CT, if there at all. If its just the one spot that’s there chances are nothing will be done about it because it is so small. It would end up being a wait and see approach, if it is cancer at all. I hope everything turns out!

Dad has spot on lower spine?
Question by : Dad has spot on lower spine?
In 2008 my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. He underwent a pneumonectomy where they took an entire lung. He has gone back every 3-6 months for CT Scans. All was good until March. He went in did one and saw a spot on his spine. They did a biopsy and it came back cancerous. He goes to Dana Farber where they did aggressive radiation treatment. 3 months later he went back and there was nothing on his scan. Last week he went back for another 3 month scan. They saw another spot on his spine. The dr was not 100% it is ccancer. He was having 3 other drs look at it. He is going in for a PET this week. The doctor said it could be inflammation or damage from the previously surgery for the biopsy or radiation but we are pretty sure it is cancer. I’m not really sure what I am looking for but he is only 58. All his blood tests are perfect. The doctor pushed on his back and asked if it hurt. It didn’t. He said this is a good thing. I have such high anxiety from all of this. Can radiation be done in the same spot twice normally? I heard it can’t be.
Best answer:
Answer by Denisedds
It would be very unusual to recur in the exact same spot.
We don’t know how much he received the first time and are unable to answer you, but his radiation oncologist would know.

Spots on the lungs other than cancer are called solitary pulmonary nodules which are oval shape or round lesions seen on the chest x-ray and CT scan. These spots are benign. One reason is inflammation of the granular tissues due to infection on the lungs. This infection can be due to fungus like Cryptococcus, histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis and aspergillosis. TB (Tuberculosis) is other condition which causes spots on lungs.
These spots or solitary pulmonary nodules can also be due to some other diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or sarcoidosis. Chest injury can also result in to lung spots.
Another common non cancerous spot in lungs is hamartoma which is a clump of tissues.
After confirming spots on lungs by x-ray or CT scan, a repeat CT scan is recommended after every six months for 2 years to know the growth of the lesion. If spots don’t grow in size for the 2 years then these are noncancerous.
Don’t think about lung cancer yet….it could be nothing…I wish her luck.

I have a white spot in my inner lips is it a cancer?
Question by : I have a white spot in my inner lips is it a cancer?
I am 18 and I have been smoking for 4 months now. I smoke about 5- 10 cigarettes per day. From today I have noticed that there is a white spot in the inner side of my lower lip. And if I scratch it the skin pills off. Also, I have a slight burning sensation. Is it a lips cancer? Can I develop a cancer at 18 by just smoking for 4 months?
Thank you!
P.S : I have a family history of different types of cancer.
Best answer:
Answer by WilliamT.
I have had that same condition multiple times, my dentist examined the white spot and concluded it was an abscess of the mouth. It is just a bacterial sore you get occasionally and there is nothing much you can do to stop it, it is not harmful and will go away in a week to a month.

Anything out of the ordinary should be a reason for concern. If the tech/Dr. who read it did not appear concerned about it, then you should be ok.
But in all honesty you won’t know until it is investigated further…speak to your Dr.
Good Luck to you.

Answer by GeneL
Well, it can’t be a good thing.
Spots on the lungs as revealed by a chest x-ray are usually indicators of some type of lung disease. Chest x-rays that reveal spots or lesions of the lung tissue involve the structure of the lung tissue.
A spot on the lung is an abnormal finding, which requires further evaluation to determine the cause of the lung mass. Inflammatory reactions, congenital malformations and cancerous or noncancerous growths may cause radiographic lung spots. Distinguishing cancerous from noncancerous masses remains the utmost concern.
