How long can you live with gastric cancer in 4th stage, spread to liver lungs pancreas?
Question by : How long can you live with gastric cancer in 4th stage, spread to liver lungs pancreas?
My husband’s father has been diagnosed with gastric cancer. The doctors cannot do much – pretty much nothing, could not offer even chemo and gave him no chances. How long can you live with cancer in its 4th stage? The doctors said a few months maybe a year, but did not really want to talk about it.
Do you know anybody that has lived years with it?

Answer by Pandora
There is no way of saying. They can’t give you a definite answer. My aunt was told 6 months to live without treatment other then pain meds for her lung cancer…she lived for 18 months. The doctors told my mother 6 months to a year and she was gone in a month…my father was gone in 3 they couldn’t give us any time frame for him because he had advanced pancreatic cancer. Just enjoy the time you have left with him.

HPV Virus Helps Infected Cervical and Head and Neck Cancer Cells Grow and Spread
The human papillomavirus (HPV) allows infected cervical and head and neck cancer cells to maintain internal molecular conditions that make the cancers resistant to therapy and more likely to grow and spread, resulting in a poor prognosis for patients, researchers with UCLAs Jonsson Cancer Center found.

Question by justt: I’ve been exposed to active Tb for 1 year, just found out,Drs appt 5days. Could I have spread it to others?
I’ve been having these symptoms for months …coughing, night sweats, chills, body aches, back aches, less eating, lost 12 lbs in 2 mths without trying.I thought it was because of menopause, drinking more water and exercise.Today I found out that my friend who I see often, kiss hello, eat, talk & laugh with has active tb and had it for 1 year.I work in a school yearround, my mom has a lung disease already. Could I have spread this to all the people I’ve been in contact with? I’m really scared. I will be tested in 5 days when my Dr. returns from vacation.

My dad has stage 4 melanoma skin cancer spread to the lungs how long will he have to live?
Question by Gina S: My dad has stage 4 melanoma skin cancer spread to the lungs how long will he have to live?
My dad has been struggling with cancer for about 4 yrs now. The first time the cancer was found in the bladder, kidneys. He now has only one kidney. Later he was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer at stage 3. Back in Nov 2007 he had a surgery removing some lymph nodes and then he began chemo shortly after which made him to sick and he quit taking it after about 3 wks. That was December07-Jan08 about 3wks ago in May 08 they found that the cancer has spread to the lungs and I believe there are 2nodes in each lung and now I was told my dad has stage 4 melanoma skin cancer. I just want some information I have a 10yr old son and his papaw is his world. My dad is only 54 yrs old I want to know what the lifspan is. All honesty be blunt I need to know and prepare myself and my son.

First let me say that I feel for you and your child. I have seen melanoma take a mans life fairly quickly after it has metastasized. I did interval Sonography on a patient w/ late stage melanoma and once it went to the lung/liver it gets real aggressive; the prognosis for anything over six-month survival was grim.

Q&A: my nana has kidney cancer that spread to the lung – survival chances?
Question by Unknown: my nana has kidney cancer that spread to the lung – survival chances?
hello..my nana was diagnosed with renal cell kidney cancer about 6 months ago..the kidney got removed and it was also mentioned that there was a small dot on the lung but they didnt no what it was. since the operation to remove the kidney about 3 month ago she has felt 100% fit and healthy just as before she got the cancer. We all thought it was pretty much over with until today when she had a check up about the lung and several spots have been found (which was a suprise since she is feeling so good). When i read on the internet it would class it as stage 4 which is weird because she is fine and no doctors or any1 have mentioned that shes likely to die because on the internet it says 80%+ people die within 5 years once it spreads to another organ.
would my nana still be in this group? Or would she have a much better chance since she is so healthy at the moment and the main tumor on the kidney is already gone?
any help or thoughts are apreciated
thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by Laurent
I’m very, very sorry. Yes it would seem that the kidney cancer has spread to the lung which, as you point out, would classify it as Stage IV renal cell carcinoma. This is considered “not curable” by the medical oncology community and it is almost certainly a terminal diagnosis. It makes no difference that the tumor on the kidney is gone, it has moved on to other major organs. Let me offer some advice please. Spend as much time as you can with her, and get to know her well. Celebrate her life, travel if you can, throw parties and make her know that you love her. Soon she will not feel like traveling or partying or even getting out of bed. Please, cherish every moment you have with her.

Q&A: what is best treatment for kidney cancer that has spread to liver?
Question by hnybzthms: what is best treatment for kidney cancer that has spread to liver?
Hi my mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer in Dec 2007 and had her right kidney removed Jan 08, it was a stage 3 tumor and though they said it was very advanced they did not remove the lymph-nodes as they thought they were ok.
In Nov 08 her ct scan was clear and in March 09 they scan showed a spot on her liver which was 1.5cm, she had a MRI and they referred her back to the oncologist who told us the cancer had spread.
At present she is awaiting to see the surgeon in L’pool regarding having the left half of her liver removed, which we have been told is major op.
My mum is not sure if she wants the op, for a few reasons 1 because she feels removing half the liver will not cure the cancer and as they feel its probably spread through the blood or lymph-nodes and she feels it will only be matter of time before it reappears. 2 because she has been told its a minimum of a 3 month recovery.
Is it true that the cancer is likely to reappear even if the current spot is removed?
And does anyone know about radiofrequeny treatment as she is very keen to try that as compared to major sugery it only takes about a wks recovery.
Which has the best results, and if she had surery how long would the cancer stay away? Are we talking it could stay away years amd years, as the oncologest said kidney cancer is an aggesive cancer.
Best answer:
Answer by Sebastien
I’m sorry to hear about your mum’s cancer.
If the oncologist has told you that it has likely spread beyond the liver then it is probable that it will come back later. Radiation therapy only works when you know where the cancer is. It may get rid of the cancer in the liver, as surgery will, but it won’t prevent another spreading.
If your mother’s fears are well founded about further metastasis then I can see her reasoning for wanting the least invasive procedure possible.

What are some signs that cancer has spread to lymph nodes and organs?
Question by Billy: What are some signs that cancer has spread to lymph nodes and organs?
Like what are the main symptoms?
Best answer:
Answer by xcheerxforxlifex
first of all what kind of cancer?? you dont get symptoms usually with cancer which is exactly why it is sooo hard to catch in time to cure. the only way you will know if cancer has spread is if you get a pet scan or ct scan done. Its so hard to tell if it spreads because it is virtually painless

how does breast cancer and luekemia interact. does the luekemia make the b/ cancer worse, spread more?
Question by hawthornecourter: how does breast cancer and luekemia interact. does the luekemia make the b/ cancer worse, spread more?
my mom has had lukemia for over 15 years and she just found out she has breast cancer (which will need to have treated, to what extent we dont know yet). I was just wondering, what, if any effect the lukemia will have on the breast cancer. she is 81 years old and is a smoker (1-2 packs per day), other than that she is healthy and gets “out” on a regular basis (store, playing cards etc)
Best answer:
Answer by Memere RN/BA
So, let me get this right. Your mom is 81, smokes 1-2 packs of cigarettes a day, has breast cancer and leukemia, and you say “other than that, she’s healthy?” Define healthy. This can’t be. If an 81 yr old person had leukemia, she would be getting treatments, this will really bring her immune system down, With treatments, she is at risk for infections more easily than those who don’t have any type of chemo. Leukemia makes a person so weak while on treatments. They are usually very fatigued, lethargic and to boot, she smokes. So how are they going to treat her breast cancer? Leukemia won’t make breast cancer worse, it will make it more difficult to treat because a different type of chemo has to be used or they will use radiation. However, they never use both at the same time. So if this question is real, I think you should speak to her Dr and find out what kind of treatments they will be giving her at this time, because no one here is going to know. Well, maybe a doctor will, Good luck to your mom. Tell her to quit smoking.

How fast will stomach cancer spread?
Question by Alison C: How fast will stomach cancer spread?
Hello, i know no one can give me a precise answer but just briefly, my mum was diagnosed with Stage 2/3 stomach cancer about 6 months ago. After two horrendous rounds of chemo and radio, she opted to withdraw from treatment and also not have surgery. We live in different countries and I arrived to visit her last week. I was shocked by the state of her. She has easily lost 100lbs (she was about 260lb to begin with), can barely eat, drink or stand. I am taking care of her right now which consists of giving her medication and trying to get her comfortable. She is wearing a morphine patch so is not in huge pain but suffers from nausea. My question is, with no treatment, how fast does this spread? Does anyone have any experience with this? It seems that aside from the cancer, she is basically starving to death. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Is anyone here that knows about lung cancer that has spread into the lymph nodes?
Question by Layla25: Is anyone here that knows about lung cancer that has spread into the lymph nodes?
My mother in law just got diagnosed and is in the last stage of MS. I was wondering if anyone has been around this before cause I have no experience with cancer and I know very little about MS. I do know that she is in stage 3 of MS and it causes her to be very weak and I was wondering what are her chances of survival through the lung being cut out without having the chemo therapy. She had a chemo therapy with the MS that was a half a dose of the red chemo therapy and her body couldnt even take that. I have so many questions and would like any info I can get so please dont be shy and be straight about everything.

Best answer:
Answer by Denisedds
I’m not really sure how knowing how high a CEA can go, but I have seen them in the ten thousands. Tumor markers are used to monitor treatment.
The median survival for stage 4 colon cancer with treatment is 2-2.5 years.
