What you think? Story?

Question by : What you think? Story?
I can’t remember anything about my childhood apart from meeting Max in the Children’s home at the age of six when I first arrived, he was just eight then and I can still remember his welcoming smiling face to this day. But before the age of six and before Max, I can’t remember a single thing, not even my mothers face who had put me there, I wouldn’t even recognise her if she passed me in the street, not her smell, not her voice and not even her face. Her reasons for putting me there? I don’t know and I never will, of course the curiosity killed me at times, but I wasn’t interested now, clearly because I got the best boyfriend and friend I could ask for out of the experience, and that was something far more special than a woman who wasn’t willing to struggle a little to bring up her own child.
But with Max, it was a completely different picture, it wasn’t his parents fault he was there and Max knew that, but he still prayed every night for the return of his ill cancer fighting father who raised him. Of course at the age we was, neither of us quite understood, but we understood enough to know that when people said Max’s father would be fine, it would be a lie. Growing older and becoming a little more educated, we learnt that lung cancer was an illness that had you fighting for your life. Max’s father, Mr O’Neill, visited as often as he possibly could to see his son and I could never forget how excited Max used to get when he knew his father was visiting. When he used to come down to pick him up I noticed that sometimes he looked content and averagely happy and other times he looked washed out and gray. Sometimes I even used to go with the two of them, they did invite me mostly every time but sometimes I felt like I was rudely interrupting the whole father-son thing, they needed the most time they could get together. Max’s father never wanted to stay in the home either to spend time with Max, even though it was very nice and so were the carers, but I understood, he obviously didn’t like to be reminded that he had to give up his son full time. Mr O’Neill really grew on me, he even became one of my favourite people, even with his illness and loneliness he managed to smile and even laugh, which for anyone else would have been impossible. That’s why I grew to really respect the man and why I was so devastated when the bad news arrived.
Most people would feel quite mutual if they received the will from a wealthy man, because of the unfortunate emotions of a huge loss in their life, but not Max, he didn’t want anything to do with it, he was completely mortified about his father. But later on he decided it would be sensible to save everything including Mr O’Neill’s house until his education had finished and was at the right age to take responsibility of so much money. Plus, it’s what his dad would of wanted.
This is just a draft kind of thing by the way, I haven’t looked into it with much detail yet :)

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) – cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and chronic lung diseases – are Europe’s main killers and impact on all levels of society, particularly on the most disadvantaged groups. Around 40 countries participated in the November 2010 UNDESA/WHO European Regional High-Level Consultation on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases in Oslo, Norway. The consultation described the health and developmental impacts of NCDs in Europe and planned the region’s role in the first-ever UN General Assembly High-level Meeting on NCDs being held 19-20 September, 2011.

Caitlin’s SickKids Story

Caitlin, 7, celebrated a huge milestone this year. But not a typical milestone like learning to tell time or to cursive write; Caitlin reached the two-and-a-half year mark since her last chemotherapy treatment. At a very young age, tests revealed Caitlin had a type of cancer called acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Its a rapidly progressive cancer that is the most common malignancy in young children. She went to SickKids for specialty care. This year, Caitlin is the face of the 2010 spring SickKids Lottery. Caitlins story represents the 100000 children treated at The Hospital for Sick Children each year who benefit from the Lotterys support of Foundation and Hospital programs.

very frustrated with my pneumonia. Here’s my story. What should I do?

Question by wendyladi98: very frustrated with my pneumonia. Here’s my story. What should I do?
March 11th – seen for a mild ear infection prob due to swimming. Given Amoxicillin for 10 days
March 21st- I take the last amoxicillin and that night run a 101 fever.
March 25th – I see a doctor and am given the speech that 80% of these respiratory/sinus things are viral so lets just rest and hydrate(she did detect a wheeze and witnessed the 101fever.)
March 27th – I see my primary doctor and I knew I was running a fever but I didn’t realize it was a 104 fever! I ran the first red light ever that day and I think it was because I was so disoriented. Just thankful no one was hurt. My doc gave me a penicillin shot and a z pac.. The entire time I am on the z pac I am running 103-104 fevers even with regular tylenol and Ibuprofen. I can’t eat and have lost 22 pounds (I am still over 200 so I can stand to lose some weight but not like this…)
March 31st- Took last of the z-pac 8pm.I am awakened being shaken and my fever is 104.5. I am completely disorriented and am basically ordered into a cool shower by my neighbor who may have saved my life. She drives me to the E.R. where I discover I have Pneumonia on my left lung. I am prescribed ANOTHER z pac. The high fevers do subside around the 3rd day but 101-102 fevers are still occurring. I had been told to follow up with my primary are doc that week but it just wasn’t feasible as she had few hours due to the upcoming holidays. So April 6I go to urgent care. Fevers are basically low grade from this point out (100.6 100.8 etc) but I still am wanting to sleep around the clock and a doctor comes out (he may have been a P.A.) and says this is really bad. You have pneumonia in both lungs you need to go to the E.R. So after waiting 2 hours in urgent care I wait 2 hours in the E.R. They take their own x-ray and confirm the diagnosis. I was originally told I would be admitted and they were waiting on a bed. They give me two breathing treatments, a couple hours on oxygen, saline, and a respiratory IV drug plus levaquin. I went home with a prescription for levaquin and Phenergan. They said I looked too good to be admitted. I was ORDERED to come back Sunday morning for a repeat chest x-ray. I started coughing up blood in the shower Saturday night. I had been told to come in sooner if I had worsening symptoms. My chest did hurt worse! So I come in and was completely disrespected. Weren’t you just here yesterday, your lungs sound really good, I wouldn’t want that extra radiation with your cancer history etc(been cancer free for nearly 2 years and I get x rays and cts frequently to make sure it isn’t back…duh!) I said the doctor told me to come back for another x ray and she said snidely well that’s up to the doctor. I was wheeled back to the xray room. Told to go back to the waiting room and then a NURSE brings me discharge papers and says to keep up what I am doing, it is only in the left upper lobe now. I look down and it says Viral pneumonia upper left lobe. I asked her how did it turn from bacterial to viral overnight? She blushes and says I think I made a typo but it doesn’t matter just keep doing what you are doing. I still don’t understand how pneumonia in my right lung just vanished in less than 24 hours. So… the fevers are on the rise again (just broke 101.8) so I go back to my primary dr yesterday and she wanted to culture the junk in my chest. IDK if the specimen was good enough as I wasn’t able to cough up much. So now when I cough I usually vomit. They refuse to admit me, so I guess I just wait and pop the levaquin and tylenol until someone calls me. What would you do? I have been EVERYWHERE my insurance is covered and no one will recognize how much pain I’m in or how scared I am. My primary care doc is doing her best but this is still frightening.
don’t know if this matters but none of my family is sick so I don’t think I am extremely contagious. (knock on wood)

Did anyone take blood cultures to make sure you aren’t septic? Also, do you have some type of auto immune problem that may prevent you from fighting the infection?

Information needed for the story I’m writing!?

Question by : Information needed for the story I’m writing!?
If it’s spread too far, what’s the life expectancy of someone with lung cancer?

I know this is a strange question. But I’m writing a story and the person’s father has Lung Cancer, and I wanted to make it as realistic and true to life as I can. I want the father to be hiding it, and when he begins to slip and show he’s suffering. They go to the hospital and he gets told it’s spread so much and they can’t remove it, and he’s only expected to be alive for whatever amount of time. So if anyone knows and can help me, it would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

Q&A: Is this an intriguing first page of my story? Would YOU continue reading?

Question by .: Is this an intriguing first page of my story? Would YOU continue reading?
Prologue:

Why must I keep reassuring you people that I’m not crazy? Does this face look like the face of the insane? I don’t hear any voices that must be silenced in my head. I don’t feel the urge to dart in front of a train. Yet, I get flashed those looks. That awful side-glance accompanied by twisted frowns and hushed whispers. They are the looks of those who don’t know. Those people don’t know the trauma I go through and the horror I’ve experienced.
Every night I cringe to sleep, thinking of the horrible and twisted death I know my imagination has come up with. How shall the death in this nightmare be carried about this time? Every day is a nightmare in the life of me, Blair Colleen. Every day, I live with a mother whose eyes are blinded by alcohol, so blinded she’s become a handicap for caring for her daughter. Every minute, I think of my father. The father that had a second life, the father whose only reason for not leaving my mother was because the cancer wouldn’t let him. The same father that that let the cancer win.
Then, there’s when we moved to Maine. In Maine, I realized I possessed magic from the core of my bloodline. But, my life isn’t a fairytale one and that’s not what I’m implying. I can guarantee you my story doesn’t have a happy ending. Murder will be convicted in Maine, mostly wished upon me by the enemy. Blood will be shed in Maine. Losses occur at both sides of this war because, after all, with a loss there comes a gain, hopefully.

Chapter 1
First Days
“Where there is mystery, it is generally expected there must also be evil.”
-Lord Byron (1788-1824) British Poet

I could have easily turned to drugs. Luke down the street sells weed to every kid on the block. The exchange would have been like a knife through butter, smooth. I could have taken down a bottle of my mom’s antidepressants. It would have been simple to slip myself an extra dozen pills. Sipping them down with Rebecca’s tequila was the visual image in mind.
I could have done any amount of these things, to any extent. But that wasn’t the way I handled things. That wasn’t me. I didn’t rage out when I was told we were moving to Maine. I don’t express myself, like the counselors at my old school told me I should do. I don’t bake a cake when I feel happy and I don’t punch a pillow when I’m sad. I just sit, suffer in silence, or like now, suffer in the passenger seat of our rust orange station wagon. I dug my nails into the bottom of the seat, my restraint from slapping sense into my mother.
The pathetic part of it all is I knew this was coming and I hadn’t stopped it. Unfortunately, I just can’t get used to moving every couple of years because my mom can’t keep a steady job. When she gets fired, she gets frustrated and flustered and does what she does best, runs away from her problems. My mother thought that moving would solve her problems, and maybe bandage the humiliation, but it never did. I wish I had the heart to tell my mother that no matter where she lived, she would still be an alcoholic who, besides not being able to hold a job, hadn’t been able to hold a steady boyfriend as well. But every time anger swished inside of me, building up to tell her the truth, it all flooded out of me in fear of making her stress worsen.
My stomach lurched when the smell of my mother’s cigarette hit my lungs. I shot her a glare. I sunk in my chair and practiced my breathing exercises until I calmed down. My mother knew how I felt about her cigarettes. Each inhale she took she was killing herself further and I didn’t need to lose another parent.
here ya go whiners [: I have written so far 54 pages [although words counts not pages] & my book is titled Seven Deadly Sinners. I am 14.

Suddenly, the radio that had been safely keeping me from communicating with my mother during these long hours of driving suddenly died as the blue glow faded away with my hope of solitude. I swore under my breath and turned up the volume on my ipod. My mom cleared her throat but mentioned nothing. I was already used to her stern glares and her clearing of throats that meant ‘that is not acceptable’, so she didn’t bother. I was just mad at myself for not being able to hold grudges for over a week. I had forgiven my mother for making us move, basically inflating her decision to do it once more in the near future. But, I still hoped that the guilt was attacking her, creeping up her spine and finally exploding in gunfire so much she pulled out her hair and spun the car to go back home. At least then we’d have a destination, unlike now, how she was jus
just going all the way across the country just to drive, to lead another life.
I glanced at her from under my baseball hat, but her face was perfectly serene; no gunfire just yet. My mother’s lips were tight, just like the bun in her hair with gray peeking out. Her eyes flicked to me. I shifted my weight uncomfortably with my arm resting on the armrest instead of my leg. I yanked off my headphones unwillingly to at least pretend to listen to her so-called, ‘quality time talk’.
“Blair, I’m doing the best I can. There’s no roadmap to parenting. I’m trying, honey,” My mom’s voice cracked, as if unsure about what she was saying. Out of the corner of my eye I saw her crooked smile while she looked at me, expecting me to return it. When I didn’t respond, smile or even acknowledge her, she gave up and tried concentrating on the wet and rainy road ahead. My mother dropped her cigarette and cranked up the window.

How can my family find closure and move on after our father’s death? Sad story :(?

latest lung cancer treatment
by Vietnam Plants & America plants

Question by zzzzzzzzzzzIM…ASLEEPzzzzzzzzzz: How can my family find closure and move on after our father’s death? Sad story :( ?
My family was always full of love. My story starts off like this… My father is a hard working laborer and he started off life living on a farm. With everyday being a task, it seems as though it has followed him all through his life. My father has always treated my family with love and care. God is always in his life. He is loved by us all. I was 16 years old, the day my family found out my father had lung cancer. Its a fatal disease of course. As the months had gone by, I would notice his body start to weaken and look thinner as it was eating his muscles. But to my family – we have faith, and we feel it can conquer anything. So we prayed… the doctors said my father would not last 6 months. That had passed and he is still alive. After visiting the doctors again , we found the cancer was diminishing… a miracle to the doctors. They had never seen anyone in his condition last as long as he did. So they felt a break from the treatments would help his body recuperate since the chemo treatments were killing him more than the cancer was. We returned 3 months later to find the cancer had returned with full force, but not only covering his lungs, but also speckling his spine. After returning to the treatments, it wasn’t but another 10 months before it entered his liver – a vital organ. During this time the doctor was giving him less than a couple weeks. We couldn’t believe them, after all that was my dad – Mr. Invincible. However within a couple weeks, he started to say things that wouldn’t make sense I could slowly see him leaving my family unwillingly. It was very hard for me, and I could not bare to go into his room to see him – not even to say goodbye. After all we still had faith… It was 2 days before Father’s Day (1 month later)at this point he was in the hospital. I sat at his side watching TV on how ice cream is made, talking with him like a normal day. However, I couldn’t tell him how I feel, and how much I love him. It was too hard… He was gone within the next hour. There was no chance to turn back and say goodbye now. With all the extra time God had given me, I still could not manage to express how I felt. With a family full of love, a time now full of sadness, and a great loss. The times that were, are no longer – we are now lost without you. The ache is unbarable, but I know I will see you again one day. But for now… Rest in peace, Dad… And what I meant to say was: I Love You so Much!

Answer by John D
I am so sorry to hear this…This touched me so much, and made me appreciate life so much more. I can’t explain how much I sympathize with you. I’m not a “soft” guy, but this really got to me and got me thinking. Look at it this way. Your father lived an amazing life, and he sounds like a man people admired. Q&A: How do I file a malpractice lawsuit? READ THIS, CRAZY STORY.?

lung cancer center
by Klick Pharma

Question by : How do I file a malpractice lawsuit? READ THIS, CRAZY STORY.?
Over the summer I was driving from the city out to my girlfriends in the Hampton when my entire body went completely numb. I was in the hospital for 2 days when. Test after test, cat scan after MRI, after blood work they couldn’t find one thing wrong with me, then finally i woke up in the morning in the hospitol bed feeling my body again. They released me without any explanation at all to why this happened. They denied my health insurance because they said my hospital visit was “unnecessary”. the following weeks my hands went numb on and off. Now a few months later i took a quick trip the the emergency room in my local hospitol for a football injury, they called my up the next day and said I have a very large mass on the inside of my lung. I am now in Sloan Kettering Cancer center. Ive had 2 biopsies and they believe it to be Hodgkins Lymphoma, but are still not 100% sure. They said the large mass is wrapped around a Lymph node in my lung, which can cause body numbness. MY QUESTIONNN ISSSS, do i have a case against this hospital that did not find this mass? and how do i go about filing a lawsuit against them??

Wow, I did not know the lymph nodes were the root of feeling or numbness.. A hospital wouldn’t deny your insurance. That makes no sense whatsoever. So you’ve got a huge tumor in your lung but have no shortness of breath? You know, if anything involved a lymph node, that node could simply be removed along with the tumor. What you are saying doesn’t make much sense and if by some warp in reality, this were an actual true ocurrence, no you could not sue the drs.

Question by : What do you think of my story?
Jane’s Worst Nightmares
A sci-fi story

One day, there was a big family. In this big family, were six kids. Jane McDarren(12 years old), Savannah McDarren(12 years old, (Jane is only one hour older than Savannah.), Matt McDarren(11 years old), Sage McDarren(9 years old), Anna McDarren(6 years old), and Sally McDarren(4 years old). But Mary and John McDarren, the six children’s parents, were about to have another baby. They found out on November 21st, 1990 at 12:00 p.m. (lunch time) that the baby was going to be a girl, so they named her then and there.
“Her name can be ether Lily Nicole McDarren, Lily Leslie McDarren, Carmen Leslie McDarren, or Carmen Nicole McDarren.” said Mary.
“Hummmm…Lily Nicole McDarren…..Lily Leslie McDarren…..Carmen Leslie McDarren…..Carmen Nicole McDarren…..I think her name should be…..Lily Leslie McDarren.” said John.
“Then it’s settled. The new baby’s name is Lily Leslie McDarren.” said Mary excitedly, “I think it is a beautiful name, don’t you dear?”
“Yes. A beautiful name indeed. “ replied John.
The baby was kicking violently. So, little baby Lily Leslie McDarren was born on November 27th,1990 (Thanksgiving Day) at 1:00p.m.Sadly, Mary died while giving life to the little ray of sunshine.(Well, just so you know, she did have seven kids. It also looks like they named her just in time!) But that was only one of this big family’s problems. Jane McDarren and her identical twin sister Savannah McDarren both have leukemia ,and Sally McDarren and Sage McDarren both have lung cancer.
John McDarren just could not take care of all seven of his children on his own. So, John decided to put Jane, Savannah, Anna, Sally, and Matt under his parents, Mickey McDarren and Susan McDarren’s, care.
“They are the only living relatives we have left!!” exclaimed John.
“Aw man!“ John yelled, “I just remembered that when Matt was 2 years old, they died!!!”
John often remembers them because he thinks of the funeral that he went to for them. Every time their names pop up, he always thinks about the funeral.
At 10:00 at night John was reading the kids a bed time story.
“And the nice giant cleaned and washed out one of the old boots he was going to throw away and added little windows, a little staircase, little doors, a little wooden roof, and little furniture for the super little elves who needed a home. And they all lived happily ever after inside the little shoe. The End.” John read.
“DADDY!!” screamed four year old Sally.
“Shhhh. Quiet.” John whispered,” Keep your voice down,” He pointed to Lily “The baby is sleeping.”
“Sorry Daddy,” whispered Sally ,”Sorry Lily,” She whispered loudly, “But will you read another story Daddy? The one about the beanstalk?”
“No.” said John
“Please?” she begged
“No, not tonight. I will read another one tomorrow. I promise you that. Ok?” said John
Sally yawned loudly.
“Ok Daddy.” said the very tired little four year old.
“Ok. Good night Jane, Savannah, Anna, Sage, Matt, and Sally.” said John.
“GOOD NIGHT DADDY.” whispered all six kids in unison.
“Good night Lily.” he whispered in Lily’s ear.
He kissed Lily on the cheek, then gave the other six kids hugs and kisses good night. Then he closed the door and was out of sight. Jane, Savannah, Anna, Sage, Matt, and Sally all drifted off into a deep sleep.
At 12:00 midnight, Jane, Savannah, Anna, Sage, Matt, Sally, and Lily all woke with a start at the sound of a gun shot. Lily was bawling uncontrollably.
“SOMEONE BROKE INTO THE HOUSE!!!!!!!” screamed a boy voice within the large bed room.(20 king sized beds could fit in to the bedroom.) It sounded, to Jane, like Matt‘s voice. The next thing Jane did, was take out her cell phone and dialed 911. She told the police officer what happened and where they are. The next thing that happened after she hung up, was that there was a bomb containing sleeping gas.
When Jane woke up, she realized that four year old Sally was missing!(Everyone was up and dressed by that time.)
“HELP!!!!!SOMEBODY!!!!!SALLY IS MISSING!!!!!SOMEBODY HELP!!!!! SALLY IS GONE!!!!!SHE IS NOT IN HER BED!!!!!HELP!!!!!”
“How do you know she isn’t with us?” asked Savannah loudly, trying to cover up my yells.
Savannah was holding Lily. Lily, was sucking her thumb like all babies do.
“Because if I am still asleep, she goes back to sleep or waits for me to wake up.” said Jane, “THAT’S WHY!!!”
“OK, OK calm down, Jane!” said Savannah. Lily started to cry,” Great, you made Lily cry, again.”
She quieted Lily then she started to explain.
“When we woke up this morning, the police you called were still here, thank goodness, they stayed to protect us. Sally was not here then either. None of us know were she is. We checked all over the house. We think the guy who broke in and rolled in the sleeping gas bomb took her.” explained Savannah.
“Did you check in Dad’s room? ” asked Jane.
At this, Savannah’s eyes started to water. She sniffled t
