We glued carpet down to old asbestos tiles in our basement. The tiles were in good shape so we saw no reason to remove them and just carpeted over them. The carpet was glued directly to the tiles. Now about 6 months later we have found an odd smell in the room that is emanating from the carpet. There is no smell in the closet which did not have the asbestos tiles or in the other room we did which also did not have the tiles. We are wondering if the carpet glue reacted with the tiles in some way to cause this odor. It smells musty and almost moldy and causes our daughter to get a runny nose when she’s in the room. It bothers my sinuses as well. Anybody have any idea what this is and if it’s related to the tiles? Also if it sounds hazardous? Thanks.

if in a basement, it sounds as if you have a moisture problem. Its best to get the carpet out ASAP because the mildew could be mold…black mold can cause many problems and even be fatal.

My doctor is stumped. Symptoms lasted now for 2 years and ended up having gallbladder surgery because of them. Pathology report stated a very healthy gall bladder. Dr does not know. Here they are: pressure inbetween shoulder blades, maybe off to the left a little. Never pain, but a sensation that I cannot take a deep breath…but I always can. A terrible full feeling off and on, not related to meals. IBS was thought but then dismissed after two image tests. X-ray showed 4 lung nodules size of peas or smaller and continue to have CT scans which show they are not calcified. Once, two years ago had a “spasm type attack” felt like it was in my back, between shoulder blades (same place I feel pressure) and it would spasm–terribly painful. Nearly fainted. Was sweating and could not breath well during it. But DUMB ME did not go to the ER. Just saw dr few days later. It lasted about 3 hours off and on. Never happened again. Please, any idea’s? PS..age 36, female, 7 kids.
also…had heart ultrasound which was normal.

That was an excellent episode of ER many years ago. It was based on a true story.
Years ago, and even today, people used to think if you told someone they had Cancer, the news would kill them and they would refuse to fight to live. They would just give up and die.
Some might, and then some might not. Depends on the person. Today, NO ONE has the right to know a person’s medical information except the PERSON themselves, or their appointed Medical Power of Attorney, and/or choice of the patient. The Patient MUST know FIRST and THEY decide who knows their information. A good Dr will discuss this with his/her patient before any treatment is undertaken. DNR orders must come from the patient themself or from the appointed POWER of ATTORNEY holding a living will in their hands with the patients desires recorded. It is not easy to get a DNR order without plenty of documentation.
Should Mrs. Lee’s son do what he did? It was his only recourse to be sure. Mrs. Lee needed to know her condition BEFORE it spread to her brain. After that, she was unreliable to make a decision. Dr and House Staff was accused of racism because Mrs. Lee needed to die and they knew it. Legally they had NO right to deny her the chance to live. ONLY SHE could have given her consent to her own death. Both the SON and the Dr’s hands were tied to some degree. If Dr and SON agreed to allow her to die, then it would be different. But where there is a conflict, it will resort to what is legally binding.
Preparation is the most important tool for a Dr and patient to work on their future medical needs.

So earlier tonight, i felt a strange feeling in my right lung. it felt like a paper bag kinda inflating and deflating. I breathe fine, no known medical conditions, I can take deep breaths, and it was only sometimes when i breathed in and out.I do tend to get mucus down my throat and i do get a dull ache just above my / around my nose. could this be post nasal drip or something concerning?
Oh and its not every night i get this feeling too.

I was in my bed I wasn’t sleeping I was aware of stuff around me so I wasn’t deep sleeping and noticed this… this just randomly happened (AWHILE AGO)
I was trying to get to sleep after I late night stayed awake all night…. and my breathing just changed like that.. it felt like I was having like a panic attack or something… I just thought wow what is going on.. I was trying to get to sleep and I kept waking up like every minutes as it felt like I was going to die 0= but anyway later all started to feel much better but with one small problem when I like breath like normally… it felt like I wasn’t getting air… but I was still alive (so obv I was getting air) but it just felt so strange it feels like I need to force breath…. but it doesn’t feel like I am getting any air….
maybe some serve anxiety? it could be because had sore testicles for awhile and one day I had enough of worrying so I went to my normal doctor he says “hmm can’t find any lumps” so I went home went back a few weeks later…and got anti botics, still annoying so got a different doctor… she says ” cannot find anything but lets get an ultrasound just in case.. so got it,, was all clear… but my testicles don’t seem to be annoying as they use to.. anyway (sorry to go off the point) but I want you to get a full picture to understand… so when I went to my normal doctor cause I thought I had “scabies” he says blah… just a allergic reaction… give me anti botics… while I was there I asked about my breathing felt off.. he made me blow into this thing.. got 400 he says “quite reasonable” then he used that scope thing.. to listen to my lungs he says ” sounds fine” so never thought anything of it…
so there’s my story and hopefully you kind people can share you shame experiences or even…. shed some light on it.
(currently) feels my breathing isn’t normal been like almost a year (I think) now my breathing feels odd… went to doctors today she… was like don’t know what this is.
P.S if this is an anxiety thing.. why is my breathing always off? my breathing doesn’t feel the same… .. it’s been like a year on.. and my breathing is totally changed… I also jump awak.. with my head 4 times a night or more.
now for a week or 2… I have had like a sore throat I feel I have plegum there.. I forced someup to see and it was white/clear not to sure to see if there was blood… for lung cancer signs what do you think…. there was no blood though.

I think you should go see a doctor, they would be able to help you more than us on Yahoo answers.
Yes I did read that you had been to the doctors – twice, but without giving you a full examination over the bloody internet, I don’t think there is anything anyone can do for you. You need to keep going back to the doctors until this is sorted!!
What if I said – Yes, I think its cancer!
Is that statement (which I don’t think is true) helpful or constructive to you? Does it make you feel any better about what your going through? Probably no.
Your right, I don’t understand what your going through, but having problems with your breathing and thinking you’ve got cancer, can’t be a good thing mentally or physically, which is why I said “I think you should go see a doctor, they would be able to help you more than us on Yahoo answers.”

nematode worms… you know the ones that dogs, cats, sheep get,
they migrate to the lungs as part of their life cycle and cause coughing when they eat through part of the lungs.

I have had for the past few days a feeling of mucus in my lungs. I have breathed out all of the air in my lungs and I could hear the mucus, if that makes sense. I have been coughing alot, and forcefully, clearing some mucus out. Now I coughed hard, and there was a little blood in the mucus. That may have been from coughing so hard though. I don’t feel sick and I don’t have a fever. Could you give some suggestions as to what could be wrong.
The mucus when coughe up a few days ago was a darkish green, and when I coughed up a little pink mucus, it was clear,with a hint of pink from blood that went away after a while.

18 year olds do not get lung cancer.
It sounds like a panic attack.
Breathing changes is a response you have no control over and is a natural response to fear.

I have this weird chest cramping/pain thing. It goes at both sides of the front of my chest. I thought it was something to do with the lungs but all medical exams show my lungs to be healthy.
I used to smoke (very lightly) but since this came up I quit. I also worked in asbestos removal for two months, VERY SAFELY of course (and there’s no evidence that this caused whatever I have- medical exams, chest x-ray, breathing tests, etc) yet I feel this thing is wrong, that it shouldn’t be there. I didn’t always have this….
Should I keep worrying or is this all in my head? What should I do?

Angina (angina pectoris – Latin for squeezing of the chest) is chest discomfort that occurs when there is a decreased blood oxygen supply to an area of the heart muscle. In most cases, the lack of blood supply is due to a narrowing of the coronary arteries as a result of arteriosclerosis.
Angina is usually felt as:
pressure,
heaviness,
tightening,
squeezing, or
aching across the chest, particularly behind the breastbone.

My job relocated from a clean modern building with great maintenance and security, to a dirty rodent infested building that’s at least 40 years old because it was more cost effective.
The water fountains are turned off because of the lead pipes. There are mouse dropping in my cubicle everyday and the whole office is coated in a strange white powder. The building has repeatedly been sited by the health department but nothing has been done.
OSHA has tested the powder and says its not Legionaries Disease, which one of our other buildings did have, and its not asbestos, even though a contractor left the building and refused to complete repairs on our AC claiming the building had asbestos. They says it has a high mold content but that’s not something they deal with.
A lot of people in the building have a persistent cough and my desk is right under a vent so I not only have a cough but have horrible headaches as well.
I currently have to wipe my desk off with bleach wipes everyday just to keep the dust off my clothes. The dust is so thick when I come to work on Mondays that you can write in it. Plus its not like regular dust as its grainy. I really think this stuff is dangerous but I can’t afford to quit and look for a new job.
What can I do to find out what this stuff is? And how can I protect myself?

I don’t know how you can find out what the dust is apart from reporting this to the Occ Health and Safety authorities.
You need to get yourself moved to a different desk. Tell your employer that it is making you sick and that you don’t want them to have to be liable for huge medical bills.
You say you cannot afford to change jobs but can you afford to get mesothelioma if it is asbestos? Even if it is something else, you are breathing that in and your lungs could form scar tissue around the deposits. Any type of irregularity in the form or function of your lungs can cause cells to get out of whack with their dividing and that is the beginning of cancer. At the very least you could get one of a number of lung and/or respiratory conditions
You have to either change jobs or move to a different area. Dust that you can write in is not good! Especially when it isn’t dust! Put pressure on the health department and if you can, put pressure on your employers. Let them know that it could end up being more expensive if they do nothing.
Good Luck and think of your future. When you are lying in a hospital bed suffering, you will wish you got the heck away from that weird “dust”.

Well I would get a stress test…but remember that the upper GI is located in that area…muscle spasms…pulled muscles…gas if you breathe out of your mouth a lot and drink a lot of sodas can bloat in that area…acid reflux…panic attacks. There is a lot more in that area then you’d think…

following sypmtoms are: numbing & extreme burning on left side of face (exposed side while sleeping)sinuses were messed up badly, but have somewhat cleared. burning sensation has worsened, with whole inside of mouth being completely numb & extreme burning sensation. since a/c clutch burned up on rig on 3/14/06 symptoms has began to move to right side of chin, lips, & left eye. Also, now I am experiencing “electrical type of shocks at times from face, & from base of neck to temple. Very painful, have lost considerable amount of weight due to not being able to eat, affects my sleeping, I sometimes have to have a drug induced sleep such as benadryl. Drs, try to say it is “Bells Palsy” But, symptoms DONOT MATCH: My face has Never been paralyzed or had lose of muscle use. A/C Clutch has electrical windings, as well as asbestos clutch material, which was hot enough to Burn off into a toxic smoke which was inside of cab of my truck when i awoke. The smoke was a blackish color, with an odor.
