i just want to know what to expect. she has a bad cough and told me that the doctors said they werent worried but needed to be extra precautious in order to feel safe. with this “fluid on the lung” condition, the doctors said that she probably would not have been taken into further tests had it not been for her breast cancer history. they have had to drain the fluid off of her lung 2 times already and she goes for tests tomorrow. i reall need to know what is going on i dont want her to be untruthful just to save me from worrying about it so much.
however, the doc. said he wasnt worrie that the fluid was clear.. and my mother said shes not worried either.
what should i feel? what should i expect/do??

Is there anyone out there who is actually a survivor of liver cancer (or have a loved one who is)?
I haven’t been diagnosed yet and they weren’t even looking for it but during some blood work they noticed some abnormal levels on my liver. To the point that they asked if I was a junkie or an alcoholic.
My PCP sent me for ultrasounds on my liver, bile ducts, gallbadder and pancreas last Monday. I noticed when they were doing the ultrasound that she marked a spot on my Liver so that told me there was something there that wasn’t normal. (I work in healthcare I.T., while I don’t understand a lot of the clinical aspect of things, I do understand some things). I had an appointment with my PCP Thursday as my b-12, iron and a few other things were low so he was giving me a b-12 shot. He told me in the ultrasound there is a 2 cm spot on my lower right lobe of my liver, but they didn’t get a clear picture to see what it is so they scheduled me for a CT scan of it on Tuesday morning.
Facts on me:
I’m 36 and female
I don’t drink – never did
I don’t smoke – never did
I don’t take drugs of any kind (not even OTC). – never did.
I’m not jaundice.
I haven’t been sick or not feeling well.
I have been getting some pain in the lower right side of my back similar to gallstones but that’s it. I have had gallstones before and its not anywhere near the pain I had with that! Its not that frequent either.
I’m otherwise quite healthy. My blood pressure, cholesterol and other things are all perfect. I don’t have diabetes (so my pancreas appears to be fine), my kidney’s, lungs and heart are all healthy.
As for my bile ducts & pancreas they didn’t see any spots on them. As for my gallbladder, I don’t have one, it was removed 7 years ago a year after having gastric bypass surgery. My PCP may actually have not known I didn’t have one, I started seeing him after I had it out, while I’m sure it is in my file, when he gave me the order sheet for the ultrasound, he didn’t mention the gallbadder part. I lost a lot of weight and my gallbadder stopped working as a result of that. Rapid weight loss is a common cause for problems with your gallbladder but the surgeon who removed it said it can happen with any rapid weight loss, surgery or not.
Problems with my liver wasn’t anything they were actually looking for. I went to the dermatologist about hair loss and they ran some blood tests, abnormal levels in my liver, iron & b12 showed up in the blood tests they ran.
In the blood work my PCP also looked for diabetes since I’m high risk. My dad died from it and both of my brothers have it. A genetic form (aka type 1) not a lifestyle/weight form of diabetes (aka type 2)… I don’t have diabetes. My sugar levels are normal.
While I haven’t been diagnosed yet and I know its possible its not a big problem or even cancer, I’m realistic that it could be. Cancer doesn’t discriminate.
I didn’t know that about iron & b-12 as a cause of hair-loss until recently, but my b-12 was low enough that they wanted me to do injections for it at the dr office instead of vitamins, and my iron was low enough they put me on a prescription iron pill. I was told 14 years ago that I had PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) and my hair was thin(ning) then they told me that was the cause of it. I had gastric bypass 8 years ago, that also causes hair loss so my thinning hair that surgery made it worse. It wasn’t coming back was why I went to the dr for it I have been to a few others the past few years but never found one that looked enough into the hair loss problem one even told me “some women just have hair loss”, I still have a lot of my own hair but the part where it thinned is on top so I wear a hairpiece or extensions for it. I have come to find out in the last few months I’m also anemic after a trip to the ER. They found out they misdiagnosed me with PCOS when actually I just
Overall, I’m quite healthy. Until I got prescribed the iron pills and the b-12 shots.. I was on zero medications.

The first step is usually an ultrasound. If something is seen, the next step is ct scan, not because the US was blurry. If something is still found, you will have an MRI. The next step would be ct guided biopsy. My husband went through that and he just has a hemangioma, benign mass on his liver.
I read your question again… You went to dr for hairloss? Did you know, low iron and low vitamin b’s are a cause of hairloss?? You’re fine. Take some vitamins.

I never experienced cancer before, nor have my relatives. I have a uncle of a friend who has, but I don’t know much about him. I am applying to study cancer treatment in a medical school, though.

More of my story here: babiesornot.blogspot.com – Jim and I went to see a radiation oncologist to discuss the next phase of my breast cancer treatment. In this video, we discuss the appointment, the doctor, and all that radiation entails. At one point here I mention that radiation improves the rate of local recurrence but I realize you may not know what that means. “Local recurrence” refers to having the same cancer come back in approximately the same area that it was found originally. Younger women tend to have more aggressive breast cancers, and local recurrences can quickly lead to metastatic disease (aka spread to bones, liver, lungs, or other organs) so anything I can do to reduce this risk deserves serious consideration. On the other hand, radiation comes with a set of serious risks which I must weigh in as I think this through. I don’t go into great detail about all this in this video, though I write about it on my blog (see link above), Instead, in this video, I’m dealing with the emotional aftermath.

A non drug user all of her life, Emily turned to the medicinal use of marijuana to counter the side effects of her nausea, headaches and chemotherapy treatments. Transcript follows: I was lucky not to get too much nausea, I only got it occasionally which was good. But of course when I took my pain medication I was nauseous. Which was very silly. Oxy-contin Vicodine and any kind of medicines they give for pain which I went through 6 or 7 different ones that didnt make feel really sick and actually worked. That was a pain. But yeah, if I took the nausea medication so I could take my pain medication it gave me a headache. There were so many side effects for the medication I was trying to take to make me feel better. Im a 4 time cancer survivor and patient and have been now for over 5 years. Over 5 years ago I was given less then a 5% chance of living and at that time I had stage 4 esophygial cancer and since I had 85 radation treatments,73 hyper baric treatments,46 surgeries,5 chemo treatments, 5 chemo treamtents and stopped breathing 9 times. I havent eaten, drank or talked in over 5 years and will never again. They cut out my 2 chest muscles and left back muscle to re construct my neck and throat. I have a feeding tube as Im showing you and the scars 2 from them cutting my chest muscles out and the one on the left side of back is my left back muscle and the tube coming from ym stomach is my feeding tube and the scar around my belly button is where they operated when they diagnosed me with stage 2 colon cancer. Now they are watching tumors on my lungs so Im not out of the woods yet Im affraid. I lost my mom to brain cancer when I was 3 and she was 32.
