Question by JAurbanpeacegarden: My step daugher has uterine cancer, a malignant germ tumor. Any survivors with info on treatments following su?
We are still in shock as she lost her twins one week before her due date due to an accident a few months back. Everyone in the family is looking up info. I thought I would reach out to the Yahoo Answers community to see if anyone is familiar with this cancer and its treatments – before or after the total hysterectomy. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately I am not very familiar with germ tumors, but I do know about the reproductive system enough to say that you could definitely get some form of either internal or external radiation therapy and one HUGE thing is after your daughter comes out of surgery, make sure she does NOT stay stationary for too long and make sure she moves around a bit everyday for awhile to make sure she doesn’t devolp a pulmonary embolism, which is a moving clot of air inside her lung that coul travel to her heart during the process in which the blood fro the heart and lungs are exchanged. I’m sorry that I couldn’t help much, but I wanted to tell what I did know

Soccerchick may not say rude comments!!! There’s a cross on the side of the road Where a mother lost a son How could she know that the morning he left Would be their last time she’d trade with him for a little more time So she could say she loved him one last time And hold him tight But with life we never know When we’re coming up to the end of the road So what do we do then With tragedy around the bend? We live we love We forgive and never give up Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above And today we remember to live and to love We live we love We forgive and never give up Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above And today we remember to live and to love There’s a man who waits for the tests To see if the cancer has spread yet And now he asks, “So why did I wait to live till it was time to die?” If I could have the time back how I’d live Life is such a gift So how does the story end? Well this is your story and it all depends So don’t let it become true Get out and do what we were meant to do We live we love We forgive and never give up Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above And today we remember to live and to love We live we love We forgive and never give up Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above And today we remember to live and to love Waking up to another dark morning People are mourning The weather in life outside is storming But what would it take for the clouds to break For us to realize each day is a gift somehow, someway? What is the life expectancy of survivors of brain cancer after surgery?
Question by curious: What is the life expectancy of survivors of brain cancer after surgery?
He had a brain surgery ten years ago, he is still suffering from aftereffects from the surgery, receiving chemotherapeutic treatments and saying that his life expectancy is as half long as healthy people. Is this true?
Best answer:
Answer by Memere RN/BA
Consider him blessed. My brother died of brain cancer…he didn’t have a chance. My sister beat brain cancer 3 times with surgery and did well. It’s been less than 10 yrs for her and she has it again only this time she is terminal. I’d give anything if she could have 10 yrs. So you see, life expectancy is different for everyone. He’s still alive after 10 yrs and still receiving treatments. That means his Dr has hopes. They gave up on my sister. Count your blessings and treasure every day you have with him and not dwell on when he may die. I wish him the best. God bless

Please tell me your thought? Cancer survivors, oncologists, radiologists, and cancer fighters please answer?
Question by : Please tell me your thought? Cancer survivors, oncologists, radiologists, and cancer fighters please answer?
My Mother has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor (about 8mm by 16mm) in the upper right lobe of her lung. She has cancer type: adenocarcinoma, and they are probably going to treat her with chemotherapy. She had brain, heart, liver and lung cancer about 15 years ago. They are going to do a PET scan to check the brain and neck, since they may see a hot spot in her neck. Is the chance for her to be cured higher since the late ’90s? Are the chances, for survival high given her current condition?
…I swear to god she had all those cancers. The doctors have never seen anyone survive as long as she has, given her past. Radiation may not be an option, because she had the maximum radiation someone can have 15 years ago. We have not been told the grade or stage yet. Please take my question seriously.

Answer by Denisedds
My thought is there is no possible way she had brain, heart, liver and lung cancer.
Give us an accurate diagnosis, including grade and stage, using a well thought out question and we can answer you.
EDIT: She may have had cancer in all of those places (although the heart is pushing it) it does not mean she had brain, heart, liver and lung cancer. Like I said give us an accurate diagnosis, including grade and stage of her cancer 15 years ago and we may be able to give you some answers.

Q&A: Are there any survivors for this type of cancer?
Question by : Are there any survivors for this type of cancer?
Well here is the situation, she was having trouble with her left leg always feeling really heavy to move it, but she still had feeling in the leg she would know if you touched her leg rubbed etc, she fell Thursday morning, and that evening her leg gave out after shaking like crazy, She did not hurt anything else but we called the ambulance cause she was hard to pick up, so she went into the emergency room, they did all kinds of scan tests, they did a brain scan that night as well they found a 2.7cm tumor on her head on her right side in the front, they said it was a lesion, my mom is 64yrs old, very stubborn going to dr’s sometimes…. So they did bunches of tests and all on the tumor she does not have any brain cancer witch is good, but they said she has small cell lung cancer, and liver cancer they are both at stage four, witch I know stage four is the last for it, but she is really talkative and good color in etc she is not pale or anything, and she jokes and all around she still can’t move her left arm/leg but the dr’s said she might not really get anything back to it, but they really don’t know.
The tumor was also capultised closed in not no where else, and she starts chemotherapy for it Monday and the other parts.
Best answer:
Answer by Denisedds
She doesn’t have liver cancer. She has stage 4 small cell lung cancer with mets to her liver and possibly her brain. I am sorry, but no there are no survivors. If she has not yet had an oncologist consult, she will and all of this and treatment options will be explained then.

Lady Antebellum – One Day You Will… my cancer survivors song of hope

After surviving Cervical Cancer in 2008, this song spoke to me so clearly that I had to put pictures with it to share my feelings of occasional sadness but more so the joy that comes from “holding on” because I know that peace and joy is there. It’s waiting for you and for me! In Dec 2010 I learned that my cancer has returned. They doctors tell me that I have at the most 24 month before it takes my life. THEY ARE WRONG! Some days I feel like I’m climbing a mountain that is impossible but then I look into they eyes of my two young children and see that faith and hope is what I need to overcome this again. Update Oct 2011 – My cancer is gone! It is truly a miracle! It is through faith, hope, family and friends that I have made it through 9 months of Chemo. And all my love and thanks to my doctor and nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. They are wonderful and I couldn’t have asked for better care! xoxo

Cancer survivors? Alternative treatment?
Question by dreamgirl L: Cancer survivors? Alternative treatment?
Has anyone ever done chem treatments with herbs and suppliments particularly vit b17or b15 and know a company in the us that would sell it to someone in louisiana? Any other alternative treatments experiences would be appreciated?
Best answer:
Answer by WolvenHeart
I read a book a long while ago that said cancer can’t live in an oxygen enriched environment. So maybe in addition to chemo you could do some deep breathing exercises and see if that helps you out at all. Im sure if you take a one a day or something similar it should help with the symptoms you may face with chemo. I hope this helps you and I wish you the best.

Could males who had leukemia become infertile?
My boyfriend had leukemia when he was about 13 or 14 and had chemotherapy done, he his now 21 yrs old. I heard that people who have chemotherapy done cannot have children because it kills their sperm cells. Is that true? We had a miscarriage not so long ago

Yes, it can. Depends on the treatment. Males that were older (say 16) were usually told to bank sperm just in case. However, if you were pregnant by bf, clearly he has active sperm.

A Celebration of Cancer Survivors

www.makingcancerhistorycampaign.org On Feb. 18, I had the opportunity to work at an MD Anderson event honoring cancer patients everywhere — celebrating with those who survived their cancer and mourning with family and friends of those who did not. The evening’s purpose was to thank the philanthropic donors who have made a difference in the lives of our patients and announce that MD Anderson is raising billion to continue that work. Although the celebration thanked donors, the focus was not on the donors themselves, but rather the reason behind the gifts. Testimony after testimony was given — some planned, others not. From Jeff Wigbels, a non-smoking athlete who learned he had stage IV metastatic lung cancer the day before his son was born, to “America’s Got Talent” lymphoma survivor Barbara Padilla, whose operatic voice brought down the house, there was not a dry eye in the room.

Q&A: Why do breast and uterus cancer (surgery) survivors need to control estrogen levels with a pill?
Question by Ed: Why do breast and uterus cancer (surgery) survivors need to control estrogen levels with a pill?
Is the post surgery maintenance similar to transsexual procedure maintenance? How do I distinguish the two in dating situations?
Does breast cancer surgery mandate uterus removal?
Best answer:
Answer by Diane
Any woman who has no ovaries, whether congenitally or surgically, produces no significant amount of oestrogen, and will need to take hormone supplements in order to maintain her health.
And as for your second question; why would you need to?
ETA; “Does breast cancer surgery mandate uterus removal?”
Not necessarily; it depends on the nature and spread of the tumour.
But the chemotherapy used to treat breast cancer usually causes the ovaries to cease working.

Cancer survivors: Coleus forskohlii – a multitalented remedy to consider Â
Cancer survivors: Coleus forskohlii – a multitalented remedy to consider Â
Article by Dr.Anca Martalog,N.D.
By
Coleus forskohlii is a perennial member of the mint (Lamiaceae) family and grows in the subtropical temperate climates of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Plant height is approximately 1-2 feet and its striking leaves are teardrop shaped, shimmering green framing a bright purple center; leaf color varies depending on the amount of shade. A cluster of stalked pale purple or blue flowers branches off a single stem. The rootstock is typically golden brown, thick, fibrous, and radially spreading. The roots are harvested in the fall, when forskolin is at its most concentrated and the color is the brightest. Forskolin is a chemical found in the coleus herb that activates the enzyme adenylate cyclase. Andenylate cyclase compound initiates a myriad of critical events and processes within all the cells of the human body. Adenylate cyclase and the chemicals it activates are responsible for executing a number of important hormonal processes. Stimulation that is caused by forskolin supposedly leads to blood vessel dilation, inhibition of allergic reactions, and possibly an increased secretion of thyroid hormone. Forskolin has other reported uses as well, including inhibition of the pro-inflammatory substance known as platelet-activating factor (PAF) 6 and inhibition of the spread of cancer cells. Where will be Coleus forskohli Extract use for? Coleus forskohli Extract is used for a myriad of medicinal purposes. and used as a medical herb extract to treat heart and lung diseases, intestinal spasms, insomnia, and convulsions. The basic mechanism of action of forskolin is the activation of an enzyme, adenylate cyclase, which increases cyclic adenosine, monophosphate (cAMP) in cells. Cyclic AMP is perhaps the most important cell regulating compound. Once formed it activates many other enzymes involved in diverse cellular functions. Under normal situations cAMP is formed when a stimulatory hormone (e.g., epinephrine) binds to a receptor site on the cell membrane and stimulates the activation of adenylate cyclase. This enzyme is incorporated into all cellular membranes and only the specificity of the receptor determines which hormone will activate it in a particular cell. Forskohlin appears to bypass this need for direct hormonal activation of adenylate cyclase via transmembrane activation. As a result of this activation of adenylate cyclase intracellular cAMP levels rise. Since cancer manifests in a body highly toxic and immunity weakened, part of the cancer treatment needs to include immune boosters. Forskolin exhibits potent immune system enhancement (primarily through activation of macrophages and lymphocytes) in several models. Forskolin has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of cancer metastasis in mice injected with malignant cells. As little as 82 mcg administered to mice inhibited metastasis by over 70%. In man’s continuous search for a cancer cure, it is worth considering Coleus Forkohlii along all other natural remedies helping your natural recovery.

Cancer survivors: Water is your Invisible ally Â
Cancer survivors: Water is your Invisible ally Â
Article by Dr.Anca Martalog,N.D.
” Water is not good even in boots”- my grandfather used to say… of course, wine making was his business and that was long time ago…
We know better now: Nearly all the bio-chemical reactions that occur in body cells depend on water and electrolyte (sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, phosphorous, magnesium, etc.) balance. These balances are not only vital to maintaining life but also affect physical and mental performance.
Water is the most abundant component of the body (60% + by weight). I believe it was Mike Colgan of the Colgan Institute who referred to the body as a “Hairy protein bag full of water”. This bag of water has many holes which allow for leakage. These holes include skin pores which allow for perspiration (skin leakage) the kidney / bladder system which expels wastes carried by water and the respiratory system which must be moist or breathing would be very dry and painful. Adequate hydration is very important in the maintenance of body temperature. When muscles contract they generate heat which must be dissipated from the core to the body surface and adequate water to maintain adequate blood volume is vital.
Blood, kidney, heart and lungs are made of 80% or more water. Muscle, spleen, brain, intestines, & skin are 72 – 75% water. Even bones are 22% and fat tissue is 10% water. On a normal, moderate temperature, inactive day you would lose 1.5 liters (6 glasses) of water through kidney filtration (urine production) and another 0.750 – 1 liter (3 – 4 glasses) through the skin and respiration. So an average person needs 8 – 9 glasses per day just to replace average losses. It is true you get some of that from fruits, vegetable, other beverages and food..
1. Water the medium that delivers nutrients to cells and transport toxins out of tissues. Most people know they SHOULD drink 8X8oz. of water/day, as recommended by the western medical system; this recommendation was started by the bottled water companies..therefore has no scientific basis… SHOULD is the keyword here, because in reality, most people are walking around in a state of DEHYDRATION.
*I see this everyday, day after day in my office, when I do the BodyScan-bio-feed-back energetic device I use regularly.
*the beauty of the human body is that it get used to a state of dehydration and adjusts by lowering it’s water requirements, therefore leading to chronic disease.
There is biological “formula” (mathematical and quite precise) regarding one’s necessary amount of water per day… My “rule of thumb” for water requirements has long been – weight in pounds / 2 = oz. of water / day. Caffeinated, alcoholic and many carbonated beverages have a diuretic effect and actually increase the daily fluid requirements.
One should choose pure (that would take up another article) water or high quality sport beverage in some circumstances. Unless you weigh 128 lbs., 8 glasses of water ( 8oz each) per day is not enough! Especially when the women’s average size in N. America is 14!
In cancer survivors, one of the main issues is increased toxicity due to a faulty elimination system. In these cases, you have to ” push ” a little bit harder and actually make an effort/conscious decisions to detoxify. As trivial as it sounds, water is your #1 strategy in a detoxification protocol: all the herbs and homeopathics in the world won’t help if you don’t step up and increase your water consumption.
I’ve been telling my patients for years that I’m AMAZED everyday of how many people-with all sorts of conditions-get better just by drinking more water!! Well, the Japanese have proven it now! DRINKING WATER ON AN EMPTY STOMACH It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value for all sorts of diseases as well as modern illnesses.
The water treatment had been found successful by the Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases: Body ache(including headache), cardiac problems(including fast heart beat), arthritis, epilepsy, overweight, bronchitis, asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and bladder diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
Another important aspect of drinking water on an empty stomach is that WATER SHOULD BE CONSUMED AWAY FROM FOODS: otherwise it dilutes the digestive enzymes necessary to break down foods; this leads to slowing of the transit time(time it takes from food to pass thru the intestinal tract), which leads to putrefaction, therefore re-absorption of toxins into the blood stream.
You should drink water at least:
* 15 minute before a meal, *30 minute after a light meal/snack, * 2 hours after a starch meal and *4 hour after a protein meal.
These times are easy to remember if you remember you need to take into consideration how long it takes for a particular food to be digested in the stomach:
* fruits and veggies take about 1/2hr. *carbohydrate meals-1-1.5hrs. *protein meals-2-2.5hrs., *combination of carbohydrate+protein-2.5-3hrs., depending on the combination…
Natural digestive enzymes in the body shouldn’t be diluted by drinking with meals.
I always get upset with the so-called “nutritionists” in weight loss centres that recommend drinking water during meals to cut down on the amount of food: this is totally wrong! And it will lead to gastro-intestinal problems later on.
By slowing down the intestines, therefore the digestive process, you are allowing more putrefaction to take place in the colon…resulting in increased reabsorption of toxins back into the blood vessels.
#1 ACTION STEP you should take on your natural path is to CALCULATE THE AMOUNT OF WATER YOU NEED FOR YOUR BODY TYPE, MEASURE IT BY PUTTING IT IN BOTTLES AND FINISH IT OFF BY THE END OF THE DAY. This takes perseverance; it is NOT as easy as it sounds, because your body is used to the continuous state of dehydration and doesn’t know any better anymore, therefore your thirst reflex is diminished.
Persevere, and like with any habit, after 21 days, you’ll be surprised how well you are doing, and how much faster your progress is towards full cancer recovery.
