Prostate Cancer Treatment | Colorado Cyberknife VSI Prostate Cancer Surgery
www.coloradocyberknife.com The first published five-year outcomes on low risk prostate cancer patients treated with the CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System. The multi-center study, published in the January 10, 2011 issue of Radiation Oncology, found that 93 percent of patients had no recurrence of their cancer at a median follow-up of five years, a rate that compares favorably to results obtained with other treatment modalities, including surgery and conventional radiation therapy. “As a non-invasive treatment option completed in just five visits, stereotactic radiotherapy with the CyberKnife System offers patients the benefits of more rapid recovery, reduced travel costs and less time off work, allowing them to return to their normal, daily routines almost immediately as compared with the standard nine-week course of radiotherapy,” said Christopher King, MD, an author on the study who is now an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology and Urology at the UCLA School of Medicine. “In addition, because CyberKnife radiosurgery costs less than conventional radiation and avoids the anesthesia and hospital stay associated with surgery, our national health care system benefits from reduced health care costs.”

Has anyone heard of an accelerated radiation treatment specifically for breast cancer?
Question by COblonde: Has anyone heard of an accelerated radiation treatment specifically for breast cancer?
You have to meet certain criteria such as early stage, size of tumor, etc. 7 if so it is 5 times of radiation in 1 week rather than 5 spread out over 5 weeks. Do you know if this has more severe side affects than the 5 weeks?
Success rate?

Accelerated radiation: radiation schedule in which the total dose is given over a shorter period of time.
Hyperfractionated radiation: radiation schedule in which it is given in smaller doses and more than once a day, but the overall length of treatment is the same.

Question by zombiefighter1988: If NHS is so great in Britian, why does a family have to move to NYC for cancer treatment?
And liberals want us to have that stuff here, get a grip. In a desperate bid to save their son’s life, two Scotland Yard detectives have moved their family from London to New York to take advantage of the city’s pioneering cancer treatments.

If medical care is so great in the US, why are more and more Americans going to India and Asia for surgeries?
Could it be that the hospitals are better staffed, cleaner with less chance of infection, and much less expensive than in the US?

Cervical cancer treatment with least effect on fertility?
Question by clh7251986: Cervical cancer treatment with least effect on fertility?
I have been diagnosed with stage I cervical cancer and my doctor is recommending three treatments of chemotherapy.
I am wondering if anyone knows the treatment for cervical cancer that has the LEAST chance of affecting future fertility. I’m only 21 years old, so as you can imagine I would almost rather leave it untreated than do something that will affect future chances of having children. I’m in the process of also getting a second opinion, but it sounds like the cancer itself is very treatable, it’s just the post-effects that I’m concerned about.
I’ve been reading that certain chemo drugs have less effect on fertility, and I’m also wondering what laser/freezing/LEEP treatments have. I would really appreciate options from anyone with knowledge in this matter. Thank you!!

Just my personal opinion, but when diagnosed with cancer, my goal was which treatment is most effective at killing cancer, not which treatment has the easiest side effects.

An emphysema patient in Sweden receives Zephyr Valve Therapy with life-changing results. English subtitles. Dr. Perez-Soler Discusses Treatment Options for NSCLC
Roman Perez-Soler, MD, Chairman, Department of Oncology, Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, talks about the advances in treatment options for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Perez-Soler states that targeted agents represent the most dramatic changes in the treatment of NSCLC. New agents are available that target subgroups with molecular alterations in EGFR and ALK. These alterations are driver mutations in tumor cells and as a result render high response rates. Despite the initial response to a medication most tumors will eventually develop resistance. The next step for research is to understand how these tumors develop these resistance mechanisms.
