Members of the public, former patients, prospective patients, staff and GPs all attended the event to try their hand at robotic surgery. Here, urology fellow Ramesh Thurairaja peels a grape. Southmead Hospital was among the first in the country to have a surgical robot for urology. Since 2009 our Da Vinci robot has carried out more than 450 prostate cancer removals. Seattle Doctor Paints Miniature Pumpkin Using da Vinci Robot
Kristen Austin, OB/GYN (obstetrics and gynecology) physician in Issaquah, Wash. paints a Jack-O-Lantern on a miniature pumpkin using the da Vinci robot to demonstrate how this device gives surgeons greater surgical precision and dexterity over existing approaches. Robot-assisted surgery can offer patients significant benefits over traditional approaches, including less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, faster recovery time and quicker return to normal daily activities. In November 2011, Swedish opens the first full-service hospital to be built in King County, Wash. In nearly 40 years. The hospital will offer da Vinci robot-assisted surgical services at the campus. da Vinci Robot-Assisted Surgery

As one of the first medical centers in the Northwest to perform robot-assisted surgery, Swedish Medical Center is home to the fastest-growing and most experienced robot-assisted surgical program in the region. Swedish established the multidisciplinary robot-assisted surgical program in 2005 and has since performed more than 2000 robot-assisted surgeries, more than any other program in the region. Currently, Swedish-affiliated surgeons are using the surgical system to perform minimally-invasive urological, gynecological and thoracic surgeries for diseases such as prostate cancer, kidney cancer, uterine, cervical and ovarian cancer, lung cancer, endometriosis and complex gynecologic reconstruction surgeries.

Haley Dyal is a 15 year old girl in Lebanon, Missouri that has Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Monday December 22, 2008 was declared “Haley Dyal Day” in Lebanon, by Mayor CP Craig. The day was to uplift Haley in Prayer. Unfortunatly Haley’s family lost their home that morning.
