What’s the youngest a child could develop lung cancer from second hand smoking?
Question by : What’s the youngest a child could develop lung cancer from second hand smoking?
If a child’s parents smoked, how long would it take, an approximate minimum, for it to be realistic that the child developed lung cancer because of second hand smoke.
(I’m writing a novel and need to know if it is realistic that one of the characters have developed lung cancer from second hand smoking by their parents as a child)

Q&A: What’s the best way to reach the public on cell phone dangers?
Question by aquinaslove: What’s the best way to reach the public on cell phone dangers?
There are over 2000 studies showing danger of wireless radiation, even at nonthermal nonionizing levels (See Bioinitiative Report, Pathophysiology journal EMF issue, and Levitt/Lai article).
Devra Davis’s book Disconnect argued so convincingly on the dangers of cell phones, which may not become apparent for a few decades. There was approximately 2 decade lag for cigarette smoking and lung cancer. Devra Davis suggests that heavy usage of cell phones has only begun recently, so we have yet to see what epidemic proportions of disease will show up in the next few decades.
However, this does not seem to stop people from buying the technology like crazy.
What can we do to raise public attention? What can we learn from Big Tobacco?
Best answer:
Answer by *five and a half years*
Well sadly its just like smoking you want everyone to stop cuz it will kill them and cell phones can do about the same because if you are on the phone to long you are sending radio waves or whatever into your brain and it can make you mentally retarded (i am NOT trying to be rude) smoking will kill you and so can over use on your cell phone but people aren’t able to realize it till it happens its pretty sad i wish we could raise awarness about it so it don happen but i think everyone would be like whatever thats a lie theyre just starving for attention its really sad.

Diagnosed with anxiety, is that really what’s causing my chest pain?
Question by Mantis: Diagnosed with anxiety, is that really what’s causing my chest pain?
I went to the doctor a few times this past month for a number of ailments, the doctor said I have anxiety. I had back pain for 2 months now, as I pulled my Rhomboid at the gym, but also neck and chest pains! The pain isn’t that I feel short of breath, but my heart starts to race (even when I’m calm!) and my chest starts to hurt. Not one side, but both sides. It feels like my lungs.
I’m opening a business also, I’m stressed about that. I’m also worried about a lot of things, but generally I’m a calm person. Stress has never been a factor in my life! I deal with stress very well, or at least maybe I thought I did.
Is chest pain really an anxiety symptom like the doctor said? He seemed to be not worried at all about it!
Thanks in advance
Best answer:
Answer by psu176
Well they are symptoms of anxiety. Try to monitor your feelings/mood/thoughts when you have an attack. If they happen when your stressed or worked up then it probably is anxieties. Now, if you do not feel that that is really the problem then get a second opinion.

Justice: What’s The Right Thing To Do? Episode 01 “THE MORAL SIDE OF MURDER”
PART ONE: THE MORAL SIDE OF MURDER If you had to choose between (1) killing one person to save the lives of five others and (2) doing nothing even though you knew that five people would die right before your eyes if you did nothing—what would you do? What would be the right thing to do? Thats the hypothetical scenario Professor Michael Sandel uses to launch his course on moral reasoning. After the majority of students votes for killing the one person in order to save the lives of five others, Sandel presents three similar moral conundrums—each one artfully designed to make the decision more difficult. As students stand up to defend their conflicting choices, it becomes clear that the assumptions behind our moral reasoning are often contradictory, and the question of what is right and what is wrong is not always black and white. PART TWO: THE CASE FOR CANNIBALISM Sandel introduces the principles of utilitarian philosopher, Jeremy Bentham, with a famous nineteenth century legal case involving a shipwrecked crew of four. After nineteen days lost at sea, the captain decides to kill the weakest amongst them, the young cabin boy, so that the rest can feed on his blood and body to survive. The case sets up a classroom debate about the moral validity of utilitarianism—and its doctrine that the right thing to do is whatever produces “the greatest good for the greatest number.”

Q&A: My cat has heart disease and hyper-thyroidism, what’s her outlook?
Question by wolfcurse: My cat has heart disease and hyper-thyroidism, what’s her outlook?
A month ago, we took my cat to the vet and discovered she had hyperthyroidism. She had an allergic reaction to the medication and she’s been right for a week or so, but we noticed she was breathing funny today and when I got home from work I took her to the vet. She had fluid on the lungs, an enlarged heart and the vet said that he’d seen worse. My mum ended up picking her up and talking to the vet without me so I didn’t get the chance to ask questions.
I just wanted to know if anyone else out there has had experience with a cat who had hyperthyroidism and heart disease, and how did the treatment go for them? Did they live a long, healthy life?
Also, she has a heart murmur and now has a catheter insterted in one of her front legs. She’s getting a check-up in the morning.
I’m just worried and want to know what I’m in for.
I forgot to mention, she’s ten years old in November.
Best answer:
Answer by J C
Geez – NO you don’t put a cat to sleep for hyperthyroidism and a heart murmur! Both are easily treated, and aren’t causing your cat any pain. First, understand the thyroid is a gland that controls many body functions. When it isn’t working properly it can cause issues with the heart and kidneys. Once the thryoid has been regulated, the heart condition may improve on it’s own. If not, that’s controlled with inexpensive medication same as in humans.
Hyperthyroidism is very common especially in older cats. My 14 year old cat has it, as does my 13 year old foster cat. Their quality of life is excellent, and isn’t considered a factor in their qualilty of life, or the length of their life – as long as it’s treated and controlled. If yours is having a reaction to the oral drug, ask your vet to have it compounded into a transdermal cream (rubbed in to her ears). Many cats tolerate that much better – a close friend of mine has a cat that cannot tolerate the oral Tapizole, and is on the cream and is doing very well.
I had a foster cat with heart disease, she was treated very successfully with a human drug called Atenolol. Now, 4 years later, her heart disease has been reversed and she’s living very happily still with her adoptive family.
When we’re alert to what is going on with our cats, we can get them to the vet for proper treatment, as you clearly did. Please don’t be afraid to call the vet’s office and ask him any questions. The prognosis is NOT grim, so hang in there. Best wishes for a full recovery for her.

Question by : Man with lung cancer walks 15 miles, whats wrong here?
He has stage 3A small cell lung cancer,I’ve offered to drive him yet he insists on walking. This is an Xbf with obvious mental problems too because he’s happy he has cancer because he’s getting attention. He can walk all these miles at a fast pace, yet when I sit next to him in church he’s huffing and puffing telling me that he can’t breathe. WTF??? Is this all for attention? He also walks himself to chemo, I’m confused. He complains he feels sick but still walks. ODD????

Nguyen:
What? What the hell do you want? Can’t you see I’m doing something here?
Jasmine:

Wow, every little thing I say or do pisses you off, doesn’t it?
You can’t ever reply to any of my questions without screaming or with an attitude.
Nguyen:

Maybe if you weren’t such an annoying bitch, I would treat you with more respect.
Kim:
Both of you stop, don’t you get it, it’s the new year, we shouldn’t say or do bad things.
This isn’t how I pictured it starting off.
Jasmine:
You’re daughters right, this is New Years, we should be happy.
We shouldn’t fight over any little thing.

Kim, remember, after school go straight to Jefferson hospital,
To the outpatient center, you have to translate

Nguyen:
Wh…wheeeeeeeeere….bitch…..don’t….eh….
[grabs onto whatever he can on his way to the apartment
Window, where he goes for another smoke]
Kim:
Mom, this is exactly what I’m talking about. He drinks, and smokes too much,
He treats his family like crap, mom, I hate him, you’d be lying if
You said you don’t dislike him in the least bit.
Jasmine:
Kim, don’t talk like that about your father, and you know can’t just assume

[Leads Kim into separate room (exits stage), Nguyen is sitting
In a chair, impatient.]
Dr. Weissman:
Kim, I need for you to tell your father that after we x-rayed his lungs, we found a
Cancerous growth on his right lung. Kim, your father has non-small cell lung
Cancer. Tell him that from now on that he has to quit smoking in order. After that, he has to should surgery to remove part of the tumor.
To have any chance of survival.

Nguyen:
No, there is no way that I’m gonna go about life
Without smoking, I can’t concentrate or perform normal tasks

Company covers it.
[Kim translates that into English for Dr. Weissman to hear]
