Q&A: What do small white spots in your lungs on an x-ray mean?
Question by : What do small white spots in your lungs on an x-ray mean?
I had a chest xray yesterday, and there are a few white masses in my lungs as well as a few small, solid white spots that are just as dense as my bones. What could this be?
(I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to discuss results but I’m a bit worried)
The white spots are all through. Not confined to one particular area.
The white masses look like solid white cobwebs and are concentrated particularly in the upper area of the lungs and also to the sides
Best answer:
Answer by Tammy B
Large white areas on either side of the heart are called the hilum. The hilum is the area where the blood vessels and bronchi are concentrated in the lung. Other white spots could be blood vessels standing on end.
If the spot is abnormal it could be all sorts of things from masses to pneumonia.
Depends on where and what the spots look like.

Q&A: Dieticians – Internists – Is kwashiorkor a possible symptom of our poor diet – too much white flour / corn syr?
Question by Cordelia: Dieticians – Internists – Is kwashiorkor a possible symptom of our poor diet – too much white flour / corn syr?
I think many Americans are starving themselves because of their daily reliance on white flour for sustenance, whether rich or poor. Does white flour inhibit good digestion of other more protein rich foods? (Look at all the protruding bellies.) I’m looking at something that indicated that in a report as follows:
“Conditions listing Kwashiorkor as a symptom may also be potential underlying causes of Kwashiorkor. Our database lists the following as having Kwashiorkor as a symptom of that condition:

Protein-calorie malnutrition: Causes and incidence
(Professional Guide to Diseases (Eighth Edition))
Both kwashiorkor (edematous PCM) and marasmus (nonedematous PCM) are common in underdeveloped countries and in areas in which dietary amino acid
content is insufficient to satisfy growth requirements. Kwashiorkor typically occurs at about age 1, after infants are weaned from breast milk to a protein-deficient diet of starchy gruels or sugar water, but it can develop at any time during the formative years. Marasmus affects infants ages 6 to 18 months as a result of breast-feeding failure, or a debilitating condition such as chronic diarrhea.
In industrialized countries, PCM may occur secondary to chronic metabolic disease that decreases protein and calorie intake or absorption, or trauma that increases protein and calorie requirements. In the United States, PCM is estimated to occur to some extent in 50% of elderly people in nursing homes. Those who aren’t allowed anything by mouth for an extended period are at high risk of developing PCM. Conditions that increase protein-calorie requirements include severe burns and injuries, systemic infections, and cancer (accounts for the largest group of hospitalized patients with PCM). Conditions that cause defective utilization of nutrients include malabsorption syndrome, short-bowel syndrome, and Crohn’s disease.

Interesting read and yes, you have a valid point there.
I believe when manufactures add or take products out to produce a longer shelf life, we become unwittingly victims.
I also will state that man’s desire to consume these products in large quantities also makes a statement to how well they care about their own bodies and therefore allowing them to become the blimps, encourage laziness and less outgoing as a person.
I find these chemicals are foreign to the human body and instead of helping ones digestion, actually does the opposite. It promotes build up and therefore a blockage to the body operating normally.
There is where the many problems of the body lies in wait for us. Some times quicker then we ever could realize.
It is sad that many of these traits are passed on during breast feeding and actual Development inside a mother’s womb. However i wonder if this wasn’t all a design by human engineering to cause a decrease in the human population or is it just a consequence of a “on Demand” society.
I learned a lot about nutritional values when i searched out about diets for myself. There are some products now that i will never eat again
Great question and deserving my further attention as well as others.

Hydrogen Peroxide and White Blood Cells (Intravenous Vitamin C Stimulates Hydrogen Peroxide)
Research – By: (Me) Nicholas Ellis @ www.Youtube.com youtu.be youtu.be web.med.harvard.edu Since white blood cells have long been known to produce hydrogen peroxide, one obvious way to initiate chemical production would be to inflict a small wound onto the fish, and then, using microscopy, observe patterns of this chemical as white blood cells gathered around the wound. But much to the researchers surprise, they found that hydrogen peroxide immediately appeared at the wound site, prior to the arrival of any white blood cell, and quickly disseminated into neighboring tissue. They repeated the experiment, this time in zebrafish where theyd disabled a protein that was previously discovered to produce hydrogen peroxide in the human thyroid gland. Not only did hydrogen peroxide not appear at the wound site, but white blood cells failed to respond to the injury. This was our real eureka! moment, says Niethammer. We werent too surprised that we could block hydrogen peroxide production through this technique, but what we didnt expect at all was that white blood cells wouldnt respond. This proved that the white blood cells *needed* hydrogen peroxide to sense the wound, and move towards it. Of course, zebrafish are not people, and while our genomes share many similarities with these tiny fish, it isnt yet clear that natural selection has conserved this process throughout the evolutionary family tree. Still, these findings offer something of a conceptual shift in how to view human …

I have a white spot in my inner lips is it a cancer?
Question by : I have a white spot in my inner lips is it a cancer?
I am 18 and I have been smoking for 4 months now. I smoke about 5- 10 cigarettes per day. From today I have noticed that there is a white spot in the inner side of my lower lip. And if I scratch it the skin pills off. Also, I have a slight burning sensation. Is it a lips cancer? Can I develop a cancer at 18 by just smoking for 4 months?
Thank you!
P.S : I have a family history of different types of cancer.

Answer by WilliamT.
I have had that same condition multiple times, my dentist examined the white spot and concluded it was an abscess of the mouth. It is just a bacterial sore you get occasionally and there is nothing much you can do to stop it, it is not harmful and will go away in a week to a month.

Tom, It has now been about one year since Dr. Zheng Cui, the lead investigator, and his team at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine announced the move to human clinical trials Saturday at the Understanding Aging Conference in Los Angeles. The team won approval for human trials from the Food and Drug Administration. Dr Cui is a biochemist, not a physician. He can be found at the University of Wake Forest, CUI, ZHENG J in WINSTON SALEM, NC. You might wish to contact him. I have not seen any real progress published in any reputable professional peer journals. I wish him success.

what does it mean if you have a small white spot on your lung?
Question by kinnies: what does it mean if you have a small white spot on your lung?
Best answer:
Answer by GeneL
Well, it can’t be a good thing.
Spots on the lungs as revealed by a chest x-ray are usually indicators of some type of lung disease. Chest x-rays that reveal spots or lesions of the lung tissue involve the structure of the lung tissue.
A spot on the lung is an abnormal finding, which requires further evaluation to determine the cause of the lung mass. Inflammatory reactions, congenital malformations and cancerous or noncancerous growths may cause radiographic lung spots. Distinguishing cancerous from noncancerous masses remains the utmost concern.
