Explaining to 6 year her sister is very sick?
Question by : Explaining to 6 year her sister is very sick?
So my 3 year old girl Zoe has cancer, it’s spreading pretty quickly and she’s had 3 months of treatment. The doctors think we caught it a little too late, it’s spread to her lungs, brain, and leg. We got her latest MRI results and she has new tumor growth in her shoulder, and liver. We are trying radiation now. I also have a 6 year old, Elise. She hasn’t been dealing to well with Zoe’s cancer, she’s having trouble in school, and lots of anger. We would like to explain to her that we are only giving Zoe so much attention because we don’t know what will happen (her survival rate and statistics are 4% for over 4 years) But how do we tell her that her sister is so ill? She has a basic understanding of cancer, but no clue it could be terminal.

4 year old with dry hacking cough…?
Question by Kanga2roos: 4 year old with dry hacking cough…?
My son had infant asthma as a baby (he was a preemie, but did not have chronic lung disease.) We used to use a nebulizer on him. He has not had a problem for 3 years, but recently he has had a dry hacking cough. Today it is almost constant. Does anyone have any advice for home treatment until I can get him in to see the doctor?

Q&A: My mother beat leukemia and was coming up on her 2 year anniversary of it being in remission…?
Question by Joe D: My mother beat leukemia and was coming up on her 2 year anniversary of it being in remission…?
When for a few months, she was complaining of chest and back pains. Her doctors didnt do any scans, MRI’s, NOTHING. they scoped her throat and they diagnosed her with G.E.R.D. (acid reflux) when the pain still wasnt resolved..finally she went to the E.R. for some answers (she isnt known to complain unless she is REALLY in pain, shes a tom boy to the fullest) so she ended up sitting there for 11 hrs..They later admitted her into the hospital, and told us she now has lung cancer, and brain cancer that is now also spread into her spine. They will be doing radiation on the 2 cancer spots in the brain, and chemo for the lung cancer *non-small cell lung cancer* what can I expect?? Life expectancy?? Anyone else dealt with something similar like this before?? She is 45 years old. Serious inquiries only please. Answers on personal experiences appreciated!

I have Lymphoma and I have some experiences of my own that might help. First off I immediately decided against being poisoned by Chemo or getting surgery and having it spread. That left me with alternative medicine. My step Father died after only 2 years fighting his cancer and he got Chemo, surgery, etc… I felt there has to be something better. I do a number of things they are: A Chinese herbalist Dr. ( this is the best) , Raw diet, H2o2 therapy, Radio frequencies, Acupuncture, and colon irrigation. I am having wonderful success. These things work best when you haven’t poisoned your body with anti cancer drugs. the body must be clean ,clean, clean to have a fighting chance against cancer. That’s why colon irrigation is so important for me. I am living a happy life, I don’t worry about the cancer, as long as I keep up my routine its not gonna take me. I have heard of allot of people that were told its gone and it never really was. so that’s all I have to say about that.

Question by justt: I’ve been exposed to active Tb for 1 year, just found out,Drs appt 5days. Could I have spread it to others?
I’ve been having these symptoms for months …coughing, night sweats, chills, body aches, back aches, less eating, lost 12 lbs in 2 mths without trying.I thought it was because of menopause, drinking more water and exercise.Today I found out that my friend who I see often, kiss hello, eat, talk & laugh with has active tb and had it for 1 year.I work in a school yearround, my mom has a lung disease already. Could I have spread this to all the people I’ve been in contact with? I’m really scared. I will be tested in 5 days when my Dr. returns from vacation.

What year did they stop using asbestos insulation in the US?
Question by Matt454: What year did they stop using asbestos insulation in the US?
Particularly as thermal inulation in the walls of campers and RVs. There is an old Tejas brand truck camper sitting on some rural property I just purchased and I’d like to cut it up with a sawzall so I can dispose of it in a construction dumpster but I’m worried that the walls might containt asbestos.
Best answer:
Answer by Vulcan
Generally you didn’t see asbestos as insulation in cheap stuff like a camper. And mostly it’s harmless anyway. There’s two kinds of asbestos – the most common form is “serpentine” – and the dangerous stuff which makes up a fairly small amount of asbestos in some projects is called “amphibole”. Nobody in the government apparently knew this when they made the big hysterical asbestos laws.
Your chances of running into any sort of asbestos in insulation is pretty small except where it contaminates vermiculite – and then it has to be just the right kind. Wear a mask – wash your cloths when you’re done – and you’ll come through smelling like a rose.

45/47 Bongate Jedburgh 4 year house flood 3
45/47 Bongate Jedburgh Scottish Borders : This sewage and mains water has been flooding the properties for 4 whole years and Scottish Water have done f*ck all about it.The foundations are all rotten, and the house is full of rats, dry rot, wet rot and sewage. The whole house and the houses around it stink to high heaven with sewage and used condoms and everything dirty has built up under the houses. There is even subsidence in parts of the house and the properties around it. The used condoms are coming from an abandoned shop at the front where all the queers and perverts gather round the back for *you*know*what* and its disgusting who they bring around.Yuk. Sickening and one town councillor is too busy selling porn he downloads to people to do anything about it.Sick. Difficult to get home and contents insurance for this house no wonder because what insurance company would be mad enough to insure it with a 4 year flood of sewage water, the dry rot, wet rot, rats and all that asbestos lying under the floorboards! We were told the Jedburgh Councillor who tried to cover it up was Len Wyse of Scottish Borders Council with a helping hand from Hugh Wight – both Conservatives of course so what do you expect. Check the community council minutes for Jed if they haven’t been edited out yet or censored.Hows the Common Good fund doing Hugh & Len ?

Question by debdee: What type of toy(s) to send a six year old boy who is being hospitalized for cancer treatment?
I have just learned that someone with whom I am acquainted, (but do not know very well) is staying at a hospital facility in another state with her six year old son who is being treated for cancer. Any suggestions for an appropriate care package or toy(s) to send would be appreciated. (I don’t have kids and don’t have a clue as to what would be appropriate.)

When the USA 5 year cancer death rate is higher than socialized medicine, how is that lying?
Question by Obama – Wimp in the White House: When the USA 5 year cancer death rate is higher than socialized medicine, how is that lying?
One poster asked a question about why republicans are distorting the truth about socialized medicine. Here is one fact – Cancer rates in the USA are much higher than in the rest of the world.
Everyone has access to the same drugs and same medical procedures. The question to ask is – why is there a difference between the USA and the rest of the world on cancer survival
According to the U.K.’s Office of National Statistics, the five-year relative survival rate for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer between 1993 and 1995 (and thus followed up to 1998 or 2000) was 59.8 percent, The National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database puts concurrent U.S. rates at 95.4 percent. As with the more recent figures, there is indeed a significant difference,
The USA and Japan have highest cancer survival rates

Anatomy Case Study-Your patient, a 20 year old male has a respiratory disease that has literally paralyzed the?
Question by Mozzie: Anatomy Case Study-Your patient, a 20 year old male has a respiratory disease that has literally paralyzed the?
Your patient, a 20 year old male has a respiratory disease that has literally paralyzed the cilia of his trachea. He currently lives with 2 roommates, one who works part time at his family’s daycare center. His labs show that he has a presently acquired his fourth bacterial infection of his bronchioles.
2. Explain why this patient is at such high risk for infections.
3. How can this patient decrease his risk of infection?
4. What type of treatment should be administered to relieve the excess mucus in his chest?
Best answer:
Answer by Dave
First question: How is this an anatomy question?
Second question: Is that opposed to being figuratively paralyzed?
Third question: What labs showed him to have a “fourth” infection? Is that a separate bacterial or viral or three or four different organisms involved? Did they do a bronchoscopy and culture the bronchial washings each time and culture a separate organism each time?
That’s enough of my questions, lets get to yours.
Question #2(why not start with #1?) Immobile mucous is a great culture medium for bacteria because it is protein based, warm and moist so the patient will be at great risk for repeated infections. If the normal system of ciliary motion is not there then mucous has to be moved in other ways. Which brings us to the (?)third question.
A rigorous regimen of bronchial toilet is absolutely necessary. This includes High density H2O nebulization, Inhaled bronchodilators, inhaled and oral mucolytics, Postural Drainage and Chest Physiotherapy including vibration and percussion, and assisted coughing. These can all be done at home under the guidance of a Respiratory Therapist.Staying well hydrated is very important also. And not with electrolyte drinks. Learn to like water.
Sorry but questions three and four kind of ran together there because they have the same answer. If you’re asking this question about a Cystic Fibrosis patient all these treatments and a couple more would be necessary. And the primary problem is not ciliary paralysis, the cilia are not themselves effected, it’s the increased viscosity of the mucous which makes it very difficult to move the mucous upwards in the lung.
God bless.

Q&A: My 80 year old father has been excessively sleeping lately, what could be wrong?
Question by The Kid: My 80 year old father has been excessively sleeping lately, what could be wrong?
My father is 80 years old and in the last 10 days, he had been excessively sleeping for most of each day. I’m not sure if fatigue is the right word here. But I have not seen him awake and doing his normal routine for no more than a combined five hours at most.
For example, using midnight as a starting point for his 24-hour day, he gets up at 8:00AM, eats breakfast, then goes back to bed at 10:30AM. He wakes up at 1:30PM, eats lunch, watches a bit of TV, then goes to bed again at 3:00PM. He wakes up at 7:00PM, eats dinner, watches TV, then goes back to bed at 10:30PM… this cannot be right! All his meals in the last 10 days has been either a bowl of oatmeal or instant Ramen noodles. He rarely eats solid food like meat and vegetables since this started, fearing he might vomit shortly thereafter. He has been gradually losing weight. He usually weighs about 150 pounds, but now is around 140.
He has diabetes, high blood pressure, and gout. He takes prescription medications for all those. A former smoker, he had three lung cancer surgeries… the last one was 15 years ago.
He has refrained from seeing his doctor, thinking this is just a cold that would just pass. On his own, he’s taking the over-the-counter Delsym 12-hour cough suppresant for the last few days, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
What could be affecting him?
10 days and counting is too long for me. I am deeply concerned about my father.
Best answer:
Answer by sol w
He may be suffering from neurasthenia which leaves a patient exhausted. Perhaps you could persuade him to take a good quality multivitamin or B complex formula (Solgar is a good one) when he has breakfast as this may boost his energy. Try calling his doctor and voicing your concerns.
