types of lung cancer

Question by : If you’ve already had cancer are you more susceptible to other types?
My boyfriend had neuroblastoma when he was little. He now smokes (has been for about 15 years) and I’m worried that he may be more susceptible to other types of cancer (mainly lung cancer) because of his illness in childhood.

I’d be grateful to anyone who can help me shed some light on this =)

Whenever someone has had a childhood cancer they are more at risk of developing another cancer later in their lifetime. It isn’t the disease as much as it is the treatment that causes this. He should be sure to have regular checkups and make certain his doctor is aware of his medical history. It may also be helpful at some point to have those records as well. Patients are not often good at giving specific details about their treatment or disease.

Do You’ve Asbestos Cancer Or Mesothelioma? What It Means For you And Achievable Treatments

Do You’ve Asbestos Cancer Or Mesothelioma? What It Means For you And Achievable Treatments

Article by Willie Lee

Should you happen to be diagnosed with asbestos cancer, or by its clinical expression, mesothelioma, it means you might have a form of cancer that damages the mesothelium which can be a membrane that encases our lungs, chest, abdomen and heart.

The heart is protected by mesothelial tissue that surrounds it and is dubbed the pericardium. The lungs and chest cavity is covered by the pleural mesothlium membrane, and the peritoneum is what covers the abdominal cavity using mesothelial tissue. Asbestos damages every one of these membranous cells, however the most typical is pleural mesothelioma, usually in the advanced stages of this disease the cancer spreads and attacks other areas of the body.

The main reason behind people contracting asbestos cancer or mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos, but it can be brought on by other things, such as exposure to zeolite, which is a chemical also found in asbestos. The worrying thing is how prevalent asbestos is in many materials that around us every day, including cement, roof shingles, flooring, textiles, brake linings and insulation. The asbestos inserts itself via our respiratory system and settles within, making carcinogenic tumors. Individuals in the construction industry need to be especially careful about fighting asbestos, asbestos mine workers, workers at shipyards and mills are the most susceptible to asbestos cancer, thanks to continual exposure to it. It might take as long as 50 years for symptoms to display themselves, but unfortunately once mesothelioma is located the common person will have 1 – 2 years left to live, this is why early detection is important for any hope of treatment.

There are rules established by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) as to the legal amounts of asbestos that can be allowed in the workplace. Anybody who deals with the substance is forced to adhere to strict guidelines and wear protective equipment. Asbestos carried home on clothing has also been shown to affect family members of workers, therefore showers and a change out of protective clothing is demanded before workers can leave the workplace.

Successful treatments of mesothelioma differ greatly depending on many factors, the patient, when it is diagnosed, where it is located and the health of the patient. Quite a few patients will undergo surgery, and then chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Surgery will excise tumors but the normal health of the patient decides how effective this will be. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are both efficient strategies to fight the symptoms, however he side effects from these treatments can cause issues themselves. Anybody who thinks they might have been exposed to asbestos for a long period of time should go in for regular check ups and look out for symptoms that could demonstrate the surfacing of mesothelioma, because remember if you catch the disease early your chances of survival increase dramatically.

Are you more prone to chest infections like bronchitis if you’ve had a collapsed lung?

Question by Fyodor: Are you more prone to chest infections like bronchitis if you’ve had a collapsed lung?
My friend suffered a broken rib a few years ago, which punctured his lung and caused it to collapse. A little while after that, he developed pneumonia.

Now he’s prone to bronchitis and chest infections, etc. Are the conditions related, or is he just unlucky?

Thanks.

he is unlucky.

The pneumonia right after his initial collapse may have been caused by his not wanting to take a deep enough breath with the injury. But, anything after that is coincidence.

mood swings more from bipolar that is sometimes associated with it. She would get angry over little things. she’d be all lovey dovey and then just hate you. I found her to be selfish, send many people out of the way for her whims and few put up with it for long. also had multiple personalities, i never believed in them and still am not sure. she was a stripper and had the nice day time girl and the flirtatious bad ass routine at night. i don’t know if they were really two people. I didn’t get to know her that well and am not sure what is the BPD and what is just “other” factors.
